Overview

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Danesbrook House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Danesbrook House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.75 for Danesbrook House is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.152 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Danesbrook House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 4.6 positive Reviews (23 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 4.6 Target = 0.652

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Danesbrook House is very efficiently run. The carers are kind and competent and treat the residents with respect and appropriately for their needs. There is a homely feel to the premises and the residents can bring their own furniture and personal possessions with them which helps to orient them when they first arrive. There is a close contact with the Hospital Mental Health Unit which facilitated a swift change of medication when this was required. As the daughter of a resident I was able to visit day or night at my own convenience and was always made to feel welcome and when my mother suddenly deteriorated and needed end of life care she was allowed to remain in her room with district nurse care and family present. This made what was of course a distressing time bearable and even uplifting given the fact that my siblings and I were able to spend the last few days of my mothers life at her side and helping to care for her. The staff couldn't have been kinder.

Danesbrook House is a small extremely friendly home from home for the residents that live there , my mother first attended on a day care basis, which allowed her to get to know the surroundings, other residents but most of all the staff, when the time came for mum to join them permanently, the transition was perfect . Mum settled in from day one. She was given a new lease of life, she joined in with all the activities, games and most importantly the exercises and made so many new friends. The manager and her team are incredible they ALL give the utmost care and love to all the residents and relatives, One of the things mum has enjoyed the most is the FOOD !!!!!!! It is real home cooked roast dinners , casseroles , apple pies etc which this generation love and show their appreciation by all the empty plates .
Unfortunately Mum is unwell at present and has spent the past few weeks in bed , BUT the team have been brilliant ,

I am very happy to warmly recommend Danesbrook House where my nonagenarian aunt spent the last four years of her life in a warm, comfortable, friendly and secure environment.

Danesbrook House is always spotlessly clean and my aunt, who had lost the physical ability to perform her own ablutions and to dress herself, was always very clean and presentable.

The meals at Danesbrook are nutritious, generous in portions and always extremely well prepared and presented. Refreshments and beverages are available throughout the day. Nobody at Danesbrook - including visitors - will be hungry or thirsty.

In performing their, at times very demanding, duties the staff succeed in combining a high level of professionalism with a friendly informality. My aunt was always treated with dignity, respect and patience.

There is a wide range of activities available throughout the day. My aunt particularly enjoyed painting and the staff went well beyond the call of duty in assisting her in this activity.

My aunt lived at Danesbrook House for the last 7 years of her life. Whenever I visited I always found the staff to be helpful, happy and enjoying their job. My aunt often said to me that she was so happy in choosing Danesbrook House. In my opinion, one of the reasons is that there are only 23 residents and therefore they are all 'part of the family'. The staff at Danesbrook House do not leave within a year or so. Many have been there for over 10 years - some for a lot longer and that I think is a great advert for the way the home is run by the management. If you are considering a residential home within the Cardiff area then do please take the time to visit Danesbrook House and see for yourself the attentive and caring way the residents are made to feel.

I have no hesitation in recommending Danesbrook. My mother was a resident for seven years and was very happy there, and was made to feel special and always felt safe and secure. Management and staff are very caring and couldn't do enough for my mother. She was always treated with respect and dignity. The home is spotlessly clean with residents rooms cleaned daily; the meals are good and nutritious and my mother always looked forward to mealtimes. She thoroughly enjoyed the activities (quizzes, bingo etc) and loved the music/singing sessions. We, as a family appreciate all that Danesbrook did for our mother.
