Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable and heart-warming experience for every resident and visitor to the home.

The professional care team at Abermill take the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, to help those living in the home to lead an active and fulfilling life. When I come to visit I am greeted with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff are always helpful and caring. A lot of activities are provided for residents.

My father went into Abermill Care Home for two weeks for respite and we were all extremely impressed with the care home. All the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. My father commented that the food was wonderful and it was like staying in a 5 star all inclusive hotel.
The
home itself is very clean and the staff ensure all the residents are looked after. The whole family were happy with the care my father received and this eased our minds knowing this.

The home from home my grandad needs to live a fulfilling life alongside his dementia diagnosis.
Wider family are always made to feel at home and part of the care home's day to day routine. Lovely to be able to stay for meals and hear about the rich varied activity schedule. Couldn't ask for a better
home for my grandad. Abermill really is an extension of our family.

I was a visitor 2 years ago when a friend was a resident of this home for approx 18 months and was pleased with the service provided and the friendliness of the carers. My friend aged 94 was well looked after therefore when my friend a neighbour was admitted I felt he would be well looked after. Many
of the current staff are the same as when I was a visitor in 2016/17 which pleased me.

Since my husband had to be taken to Abermill Care Home. I have encountered such friends from the staff. They are very helpful to answer any questions I may have or indeed anyone in the family who visits. They are always so pleasant whatever the time we visit. My husband is very relaxed around them and
I myself actually look forward to visiting because the place is so inviting.

I am very pleased with the care my 90-year-old totally blind father has received at Abermill Care Home. The care staff are attentive and understanding of his needs and there is an overall happy and welcoming atmosphere to the home. The food is good as is the cleanliness. The management staff are very

Very good location. Scenic views of the hillside. Staff very attentive to all in their care and with us as new 1st time visitors especially on my sister-in-law's birthday. We were invited to join in at lunchtime.
It is very humbling to see the care and attention given by all staff to the residents.
There is an effort to engage all residents and visitors are made extremely welcome.

Christine Tipper

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2001

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
