My mother has been in Northwood for the past 18 months. She has dementia. I cannot praise Northwood highly enough. I live two hours away and it gives me real peace of mind to know that she is safe and well looked after. The manager is very welcoming and approachable. Always happy to listen to any concerns. Most of the carers have been there since my mum went into the home. They all know me really well and make me feel part of a big family. They are absolutely amazing. So kind and caring towards my mother ( and me!) . Very professional. Mum really enjoys the home cooking and cake. The home always smells fresh. Lovely garden. I highly recommend Northwood and am so grateful that they had a space for Mum when she needed it.

My mother receives excellent care at Northwood House. She is happy there and feels safe. She enjoys the many activities and trips which happen every day throughout the week. A weekly activities guide is left for her to read. As my mother has Alzheimer's
The staff are exceptional, always so kind and caring. It feels like a big family. My mother has made good friends and enjoys their company and chat. She also enjoys interacting with all the staff and she smiles and laughs with them throughout the day.

I cannot praise the staff of Northwood House enough.

Very settled in room. Visitors welcome anytime and very good communication with management and staff.

I cannot praise Northwood highly enough for the compassionate care they show towards my father. He is treated respectfully and feels he is listened to. The meals are home cooked and eaten together with the other residents. Northwood involve family and friends in the decision making processes and organise superb events of which we are made welcome to join in. The fact that so many staff have been there for many years speaks volumes about the place. Very well run, clean and homely. Thank you.

From the very start of my parents moving into Northwood I have been impressed with the care and attention given to them by all staff members. There's a fantastic range of daily activities and outings which my Mum has loved. The atmosphere is happy and caring and being a small home it retains an informal and open approach to visiting.

Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated in style with wonderful cakes made by the staff! I can't praise the staff enough!

Northwood House is a good caring/nursing home. Where the staff and management work well together to provide excellent care to residents. The home is always presentable, care in cleaning and odour free. Manager is easily at hand on phone or email or in person. The nurses are friendly and informative. The carers are cheerful and friendly.

The care my aunt received at Northwood over four years has been exemplary. We particularly appreciated the person-centred nature of her care. As a retired senior nurse, staff preserved her dignity and encouraged her to speak about her experiences, even involving her in sitting in on staff training as this was an environment where she was very comfortable. As carers staying a distance away, we have been kept well-informed by staff and involved through regular Family and Friends Meetings. There are plenty of activities and it is a warm, happy and positive place. We have dealt with several care homes with other family members. They are not all the same. I would wholeheartedly recommend the care at Northwood.

Reply from Annette Gillies, Manager at Northwood House

Thank you so much for the kind words. Your aunt was always interested in what nursing training we had and was lovely to see her face light up when we were talking nurse nurse-orientated things with her. It's been a pleasure to have looked after her and your involvement in her care too.

My mum has been a resident in Northwood for just under 2 years and we are delighted with the service which is kind caring and very welcoming.
My mum has received the highest standard of care and really importantly love and affection in a family environment.
Staff are very knowledgeable and go above and beyond for the residents.
Entertainment is consistent and varied with outside agencies such as hairdressing and podiatry being a constant.
We are so happy with the choice of Northwood and so is Mum.

We would highly recommend it.

Up till her passing, my mother received fantastic care and really loved staying in Northwood.
The activities kept her alert and she enjoyed the singing and exercise classes most of all.

In her final days, the manager and the staff treated Mum with kindness, care and dignity. I cannot thank them enough for their care and support for the family.

It was a pleasure to have the company of your mum within the home, she was a very bright flame who is sorely missed. She certainly was the activity queen! It's lovely that you want to stay involved with the home, helping with outings and fundraisers. Thank you for your kind words, I'll make sure to pass them on to the staff.

Caring, thoughtful staff, not only to residents but to the families. Lots of interesting activities both within the setting and outwith, ie visits to ponies, afternoon teas, fetes, games evenings etc. Residents are able to have bespoke care, can dine in their own rooms if they wish from time to time, and can choose whether or not to attend activities. There is always some interaction with residents by staff which is good to see. The manager holds family and friends meetings which, although I have only attended two, it is clear that, if there is a problem, she is keen to hear in order to rectify it. Food seems to be great too, not only the meals but also the cakes etc in between which always goes down well with my mum. Care was taken, too, with regard to seating at meals which is great. Seeing photos of Mum on their social media page is lovely to see especially as I don't live nearby.

Reply from Annette Gillies, Manager at Northwood House

Thanks for the lovely comments. We are pleased that the hard work our staff put into meaningful activities is appreciated by families as much as the residents. We're glad that the meetings and social media page helps you keep in touch with your mum.

My Mum has been a resident for nearly three years and is settled and well cared for. She is always well turned out and her clothes are well looked after. The staff are all so friendly and are very kind and attentive to my Mum. Northwood House always seems a happy, calm place which means the residents are happy. My Mum doesn’t want to join in any activities, apart from the exercise classes and chooses to remain in her room and this is respected.

I always feel welcome and able to talk to a member of staff or the manager about any concerns I have. Thank you to all the team for doing an excellent job.

My mother is very happy in this care home. All the staff are so caring and keep me up to date with all aspects of my mother's care. This is a lovely care home. Despite the increased demands on staff due to the Covid pandemic, they have maintained high standards of care and compassion for their residents. The house has a welcoming atmosphere and when visiting I am often met by the sound of hearty laughter coming from both staff and residents alike. At Northwood House Care Home the staff genuinely care. There are a variety of activities for residents to get involved in if they wish. The food is exceptional and there is plenty of it, special warming plates are supplied to residents who may take a little longer to eat than others ensuring that they get to enjoy this lovely food at its best. I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home to others and over the past year I have done so on a number of occasions.

Excellent management of the service. The nurses there are excellent, as are the catering and carers. My mother is safe, cared for and about, and they have provided comfort to myself at a time when my mother could no longer care for herself. My mother only has to ask, and she gets help and assistance. The management and nurses provide excellent communication on a regular basis, which I am extremely grateful for as I work full-time. My mother would be lost in a system of home care was it not for the excellent services from Northwood.

This is an excellent care home. My father is in this care home currently and is really well looked after. The home is a perfect size, with twenty residents it means there is more time for one-to-one attention. My father was a very solitary person and I was concerned about how he would settle but he is absolutely loving it, especially the entertainment and food. The staff are very helpful and always take time to speak to you. Highly recommended.

The manager and her team are outstanding. The care they provide is second to none. The manager has created around her the most fabulous team of people - each and every one of whom goes out of their way to make the residents feel cared for. I can think of nowhere I would rather my Mum be in her current state of health than Northwood House. Thank you to everyone for making my Mum feel so special and for giving us the comfort of knowing she is so well looked after. A real home from home.

The manager and her team go out of their way to make my mum feel loved and a very welcome part of their fabulous community.
From dancing to wonderful afternoon teas, birthday parties and being there for her when she is feeling poorly, they are simply outstanding.
Everyone there seems to truly love what they do and care about the residents.
I think we were truly lucky to find a place for my mum in Northwood House, and it is just wonderful to hear her laughing and chatting with the other residents.
