In our experience staff try to deliver a good quality care service and are approachable. The room standard and overall cleanliness of the home is of a good standard. However, staffing, particularly qualified nursing staffing, appears stretched almost all of the time. We had to raise issues with hand
and oral hygiene on repeated occasions and when our mother was discharged from hospital following a fall in the home, and still incredibly vulnerable, staff were wholly unprepared to care for her level of need. Care plans were not updated. This created serious concern and trust issues for us.
Despite good intentions, unit management is weak in our opinion and detached from the reality of the care on the ground.
All of the points in this review were formally raised with unit management and therefore a matter of record.
Reply from Jenny, Home Manager at Glennie House Care HomeWe are sorry that this was your experience. This was investigated at the time, in March 2023, and where necessary, lessons were learned.

I have been very pleased with the quality of personal care and support received by my mother while she was a resident in Glennie House. Too often nursing and care staff lack compassion and empathy, but in GH the staff seemed to really love my mother. They were warm and kind towards her and took a real
interest and concern for her comfort, care and wellbeing. They were professional but displayed a gentleness and love towards her.

Mum is very happy at Glennie House. As a family, we are extremely satisfied with all aspects of care. The atmosphere in the home is one of happiness and welcoming. The manager and staff go the extra mile to make sure each resident feels at home and treat the Glennie House as their own.

My mum has settled into Glennie House. The kind and caring staff have been wonderful. The most amazing thing about this place is the programme of activities and outings that brings such a happy atmosphere to the place. It's great that loved ones can join in too. The quality of life for my mum, provided
at Glennie House is excellent. A friendly and welcoming care home. Excellent management and so reassuring to see my dear mum enjoy her life.

The staff are the greatest asset of Glennie House. It is an extremely welcoming place and the staff go about their duties with a smile and often with a song, it obviously gets passed on/down from the management. They provide an excellent and varied range of activities each week. We had Christmas dinner
with Mum which was a lovely caring touch.

Anything my husband needs is attended to straight away, he is completely different from when he was in hospital. He is encouraged to take part in the activities and enjoys his paper in the morning. My husband appreciates what all the staff do for him and his family appreciates it too—our very sincere
thanks.

When visiting my friend, we were greeted with a cheery smile from the staff. We sat in the cafe area and the manager heard us talking about songs as my friend is a lovely singer. The manager then proceeded to ask us what songs we would like played and we sang along. It was a very pleasurable experience.
We were also made coffee and hot chocolate - a treat!

The staff are caring and work hard. They seem genuine in their affection for my mum. Communication hasn't always been good. My mum's hand hygiene has been raised a few times, particularly her nails and the length of the nails on her contracted hand. A lot better since the hairdresser has been allowed
in. Staff go above and beyond to have a laugh with my mum and stepdad which helps. A difficult time for everyone.

The care my dad receives in Glennie House is exemplary and I can't recommend it highly enough. The staff are a shining example of how care should be delivered. Any request is dealt with immediately and family are kept informed of every aspect of care and any changes that occur. Each interaction with
my dad is underpinned by kindness, care and consideration. Excellent!

My mother was cared for by some of the most compassionate old caring staff whilst at Glennie House Care Home. During the days leading up to her passing, we could not have asked for more from them. The carers and nurse not only cared for her but showed her love and understanding. To us, as a family,
this made an extremely difficult time so much easier. The staff lining the corridor to say a final farewell is an abiding memory for us. Knowing Mum was loved by so many, even on her crankiest of days, gives us such comfort. Thank you all again so very much.

Staff are very friendly, attentive and genuinely caring, taking time with each resident. They listen to my concerns and are very helpful. The staff keep the home spotlessly clean. Activities arranged for residents are stimulating e.g bingo and dominoes and especially outsiders who call (musicians and
singers) encouraging participation by residents and staff and also encouraging participation by residents in activities.

Glennie House Care Home is the best care home I've experienced. Staff are excellent and attentive and, without exception, everyone seems to genuinely care which is extremely comforting to family members. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather my mum spend her time than Glennie House. The home manager
is first class.

Food and drink - dad says food is reasonable as he has no teeth, a selective menu. Would like some fish in sauce (fillets of fish). He has a meeting with the kitchen and management. Activities are good when available and more are on now, outside entertainers are good.

The staff are very efficient and hands-on with the residents. Taking time with each individual resident and showing that they care about their feelings/well-being. We visited on Pancake Day for the residents and staff. It was very well organised and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Well done
everyone involved.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.837)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.837) out of 10 for Glennie House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.837 for Glennie House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.837
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glennie House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
