1) The staff are all very friendly and helpful.
2) They display kindness and respect to my parents.
3) They use a variety of activities to keep my parents well occupied, especially Mother, who has dementia but who always enjoyed music. The staff regularly entertain the residents with music shows and
singalongs which I can see my mother really enjoys.
4) I can see she enjoys the music and dancing sessions because the activities co-ordinator videos the activities and uploads them for viewing by relatives and friends.
5) My father is particularly complimentary of the food, especially breakfast.
One negative and that is that I think the staff could do a better job of dealing with laundry and making sure that the correct laundry is returned to the correct resident. This may have improved recently but it was an issue 12 months ago.
Reply from Gillian Drummond, Brand and Communications Manager at Pitlochry Care HomeThank you so much for your feedback. It's great to hear that your parents are well entertained and occupied. We will pass on your comments about the laundry and look into it.

Everything and everyone contributes to the caring, friendly family atmosphere at Balhousie. The care, compassion and good humour shown by staff, the cleanliness of rooms and clothing. The lovely meals, the activities and the administration. Nurse in charge always advised us of any medical changes. My
Mother in Law could not have received better care anywhere else Thank you all at Balhousie Pitlochry.

I can personally say that I was very happy with the care my aunt received at Balhousie Pitlochry. I cannot thank the whole team for all you did for my relative. They always kept us updated when there were changes in our aunt's health. Their assistant manager was always there if we needed to speak and
always made us feel a peace of mind when we have worries. I cannot recommend this home highly enough and there care for Dementia patients.

Balhousie House in Pitlochry seems to have its residents' health and emotional well-being as absolute priority.

I felt that my mother's temporary stay was tailor-made for her and helped her to convalesce and regain her independence.

The manager and staff were incredibly intuitive about my mum's

needs and very patient in their care.

There was always a member of staff popping their head in for a chat with my mum and as a visitor, who could sometimes only visit at odd times as I live nearly 200 miles away, I was always made to feel very welcome too.

A happy and safe place.

My mother has just transferred to Balhousie Pitlochry Care Home from another home as she needed a more secure environment. Everyone made the move easy and calm. All the staff are helpful and friendly and there is always someone on hand to help. The family are very happy that she is safe, secure and
well looked after.

My mother suffers from Alzheimer's. The staff at Balhousie are very kind to her even though she does not always cooperate. They are patient and work hard to keep her looking and feeling as good as possible. It is a hard job and I am grateful for all that they do.

My wife spent the last three weeks of her life in Balhousie Care Home at Pitlochry. Her kidneys has gone completely, and we knew should couldn't survive. However the staff treated her with great care and kindness, nothing being too much trouble. We couldn't have asked for better care anywhere.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Pitlochry Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Pitlochry Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 281 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pitlochry Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
