This friendly home offers many areas for residents to relax and socialise with friends and family. I visited my brother with my husband in June. We were impressed by the friendly informal atmosphere and the lovely setting and garden. The staff were friendly and welcoming and provided dishes and cutlery etc so we could enjoy a nice meal together in the garden as it was a lovely evening. Their weekly
activities and special outings are the best we have personally come across in our experience of several residential homes.

I went with a friend to visit a mutual friend at The Birches for the first time. We got a very friendly reception from the staff and were offered a cup of tea right away. Pleasant, informal atmosphere, not "institutional". Had a good talk with our friend - given a separate room and glasses of fruit
juice to keep us going. I didn't see resident's own rooms or meals so can't comment on these but otherwise, everything looked clean, bright and cheerful. It didn't have the "aroma" that some places do.

I visit a family friend as often as possible being of a certain age myself and require to use public transport (3 buses each way) - approximately 50 miles each way. The Birches is always very welcoming and friendly offering refreshments and not specifying restricted visiting hours (except meal times).
I have got to know several residents in addition to my friend in residence and get invited to special events - birthdays, coffee mornings, tea dances etc. Without exception, every resident is very happily settled, cared for and loved. I visit whenever the situation allows and look forward to going. Perhaps in the future my name might be added to the waiting list.

My mum was happy with the care and she got a nice big room. She also didn't have to pay anything as she was on respite.
Some money was stolen from her room but the home refunded it to her.
When she got home she found that some of her clothes had been left behind, presumably at the laundry? It has
not been possible to find them.
The wheeled walking frame that she was using in the home was sent home with her, although she doesn't need it, as she has one already. She has asked for it to be uplifted.

In my husband's 9 years in The Birches Care Home, I have been extremely happy with the care, kindness and support he received.
I have complained to HC-One only once, several months ago, regarding the inadequate staff situation in the laundry room. I was impressed, however, at the immediate response
to my complaint and the situation was resolved. One complaint in 9 years indicates my total satisfaction with my husband's care in The Birches.

I have found the care home staff to be very caring and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble day or night.


Personal dignity and safety and security were all to a good standard.


If it were possible, all requests for special needs were acted on.


I would have no hesitation in recommending the

home to family members and friends.

I've found all staff to be friendly, polite and helpful. I've had a room with a view that has been wonderful. It's been very comfortable and all staff friendly and helpful. Don't get old, it's a terrible mistake!


The food has been very good and well presented. I'd have no hesitation in recommending

this care home to anyone. Thank you so much for the friendship and care I've had over this past week!

With the onset of dementia, my mother moved into The Birches in December 2016. Initially, she was quite mobile and took part in activities. A stroke in May 2017 set her back, paralysing her right arm and affecting her speech. The care provided by The Birches was excellent and as her health deteriorated,
the staff made her end of life as comfortable as possible. She died peacefully in January 2018.

My mother was in this Care Home for 6 years, with dementia. During that time I saw several changes of staff and direction and witnessed many improvements, including opening up the large downstairs' lounge and my mother's room painted bright yellow. The staff were extremely kind and considerate to my
mother. When she had to go to hospital a young carer stayed with her long past her own working hours because "I wouldn't like my own granny to have to go to hospital alone." I always got the feeling that staff knew my mother very well. Having an excellent activities coordinator is also a big plus. As a family member coming from abroad twice a year, I was always made to feel welcome by the friendly staff; I was able to enjoy lunches with Mum and to take her outside to the upper garden when it was warm. Finally, a caring member of staff was with my mother when she passed away, and for that and for all their daily kindnesses to Mum, I am eternally grateful to the staff at The Birches Care Home.

Dad has been in The Birches for almost 2 weeks. He was unsettled to start with and wanted to return to the home he had been in previously as he thought he preferred it there. Although the staff were nice when we arrived at The Birches, dad didn't see anyone that often and sat by himself but they have
made him feel so welcomed and relaxed that he now wants to stay. The event's organiser and the delivery driver are particularly nice and welcoming to me as well. I feel better about dad staying in The Birches now.

The first time we walked into The Birches it had a warm and homely feel about it as we were looking for a care home for my stepmother. We had looked at other homes but did not feel the same as when we walked into The Birches. All staff and management are extremely caring and have a helpful manner
so we were delighted when there was a space for her. We are pleased and have no complaints and know she is attended to and well looked after.

Mum moved into the home in April last year.
She is very frail and can very easily fall.
The staff are kind and caring and I'm a great fan of the manager.
I'm not surprised the recent inspection report gave high grades.
To sum up, kindness, caring and clean.
