All the staff care about my mum. I just wish they were less busy to spend some quality time sitting and talking. I know and appreciate how busy they are and how recent times have created many restrictions but to me, it is precisely this which has created such loneliness and isolation and a few moments
in a day is priceless for them.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Alexander Care HomeThank you for your review and for sharing your concerns. I would like to apologise for the loneliness and isolation you felt that your Mother was going through. We had a meeting with care staff on the unit where your Mother is a Resident, the outcome is that staff will ensure that daily, a member of staff will spend some quality time with your mother.

4 and a half years ago, having to find a home for my darling husband, I made appointments and viewed 20 plus places - none were right. Then someone recommended the Alexander. I turned up unannounced but was immediately felt very welcome and as soon as I stepped inside kind and loving warmth exuded and
I knew it was the right one! More than a home, all residents, relatives, friends and every member of staff are members of one big happy family. Everyone's treated with kindness, respect, dignity and TLC - just as you would treat your own family members. My husband has severe dementia, can't communicate, walk nor do anything whatsoever for himself and one of the many at the Alexander needing total 24-hour care. Thank heavens for you all at the Alexander. Can't begin to praise and thank you enough. Stars and angels, all of you.

My mum has been a resident for a number of years and has always been treated well. She is as happy as is possible in the circumstances.
Constant change of management and lack of communication are the only negatives.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Alexander Care HomeThank you for your valuable review. We understand how you were feeling during the most difficult time in the home when there were management changes in Alexander Care Centre. We take on board feedback from Relatives to improve our service and have now employed a committed Home Manager that keeps an open communication with relatives and stakeholders, and leads the team in continuous improvement for our Residents.

Mum is very well taken care of and staff are very accommodating of relatives' needs and visits.
We have been very impressed with how well things have been contained during this pandemic and we are grateful for the level of security in place for residents.

From when my parents have been in the home, they have received very good care and attention. There have been a few managers during their stay so far. However, the current manager is doing an outstanding job with resident/family interaction and excellent management during this pandemic. Keep up the good

It was my mothers 90th birthday party. The family was offered a room in the home to celebrate her big day. The room was good size which led out to a conservatory to the garden. We were unable to celebrate until nearly 10 pm without any interruptions. Very lovely, special occasion. Mum and family enjoyed
it very much. Thank you.

My mother went to Alexander in February 2013 requiring nursing care, over the next almost 6 years she was shown kindness, as she slowly slipped away from us with her dementia. Her dignity was always maintained, the staff always made us feel welcome, everyone had a smile and wave for us. We would like
to say thank to all of the teams working in the kitchen, laundry, cleaners, entertainment, carers and nursing staff. Sadly mum passed in October and we will never forget how grateful we are for the care that she was given. We had the luxury of leaving her in the home knowing that she would be well cared for.

Having looked at several care homes, we decided that Alexander Care home was the best. We are impressed with the "homely" feel and the care shown by staff. It is a friendly environment that really does feel like "mum's home". I have been impressed at the quality of food - well done for cooking everything
on site - no pre-cooked meals.

I am extremely pleased with the accommodation and the layout of the building. The rooms are clean and efficient. The building is also clean, tidy and smells nice. The garden is lovely and spacious. The staff are polite and welcoming alongside the manager. I would be extremely happy to have my family

Building and gardens - Excellent, bright and positive.
Reception - Doorbell entry, very frustrating (and exit too).
Room: Good size, cleaned to a good level.
Communication - use email and text more (Especially in urgent cases).
Resident management - Best when mum was at her most ill. Regular reviews/advice
by a nominated person would be helpful (too casual).
Overall, very good - mum was happy there.
Food - Bland and unimaginative but plentiful.
Visitor - Friendly and welcoming.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Alexander Care HomeThank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with some aspects of the home. Safety and access to the front door were discussed in the previous Residents and relatives meeting an agreed that no visitors or family members will have the door access code. This is to ensure Residents are not able to leave the building inadvertently when visitors are leaving the premises. In relation to the food that was served in the home, as an organisation, we follow a set of 4 weekly rolling menu that was planned with suggestions and ideas from Residents and relatives. We also consulted nutritionists and dieticians to ensure that all our Residents have a healthy and balanced diet. I am glad to hear that, in general, you are happy and satisfied with the highest standard of care and dignity maintained for your relative during the last days of her life. Once again thank you for taking the time to contact us and we will take it on board to continue in improving our service.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.244)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.244) out of 10 for Alexander Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.269 for Alexander Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (121 Excellents x 5) + (89 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.269
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexander Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
