Review from Veena S (Sister of Resident) published on 20 October 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My sister lasted 5 days in this home. She was so distressed at the lack of care, behaviour of staff towards her and each other by Friday her mental wellbeing had deteriorated causing us and the palliative nurse concern that we decided to move her out asap. My sister wept like a child when told she had to stay until Monday. During the 5 days she was taken out of her small room for one and a half hours in total. Although staff promised to put a plan in place over the weekend nothing happened. My sister said the staff were bad-tempered when she called them. One morning at 8.30 staff were heard arguing and threatening to beat each other up. When we asked about this they claimed my sister must have heard the argument in the street. This is not feasible.

Today l have queried my high phone bill. I was told it was due to calls l made to Bridgeside, which are apparently charged at a premium 0844 number even when you dial the local code 0207, costing me £30 extra for 8 calls! I am not happy.

A fantastic care home with exceptional levels of care. The staff has demonstrated total commitment to keeping my partner safe throughout this dreadful COVID-19 pandemic and this has been a great comfort to myself and my family. All the staff is kind, caring, and extremely professional at all times. They do their very best to keep my partner comfortable and happy and they are a credit to their profession.

Choosing a nursing home for my mother during lockdown following a life-changing stroke was an unbearable thought, but Bridgeside Lodge made the transition as easy as possible and have been so reassuring. I can't speak highly enough of the manager who has shown great kindness, empathy and good common sense, alongside a wealth of invaluable experience.

My mother has a lovely room overlooking the canal and seems content. I speak to my mother and staff daily, they are always helpful and considerate, paying attention to my mother's individual needs. They always dress her with care for garden visits which I very much appreciate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bridgeside Lodge.

Bridgeside Lodge was the perfect place for my father, and I am incredibly grateful for the unfailing kindness and care he received during his time there. Every member of staff was knowledgeable, calm, committed to excellence, and very friendly. All the residents were treated with gentleness and genuine consideration, regardless of how challenging their behaviour. My father was always sensitive to his surroundings, and his mood and outlook improved considerably almost as soon as he arrived at Bridgeside. This was remarkable, given his advanced Alzheimers: we were concerned that the move would distress him, but in fact, it cheered him up! We were also impressed by the fact that everyone spoke well of Bridgeside and its staff, from the local GP surgery to the local florist. When my father died of natural causes aged 90, the staff were unbelievably kind, efficient and helpful at that difficult time. We felt he and we, were brilliantly taken care of and we're so glad that this was his last home.

I could not recommend Bridgeside Lodge more highly. My Aunt was a resident for 3 years and died there peacefully in August this year. She was treated, as an ex-nurse herself, with the utmost respect and dignity right to the end. The manager is a force of nature and her staff follow in her footsteps. I am lucky still to visit my Stepmother who is a very happy resident.

My experience at Bridgeside Lodge is a very pleasant and happy one because Mom is receiving high-quality care based on her individual needs. The environment is clean, she is getting her medication in a safe way, she is treated with compassion and her dignity is respected. She is also involved with all decisions regarding her treatment and any concerns are acted on immediately and effectively.

Bridgeside Lodge is a clean and fresh care centre, where residents and their relatives alike feel welcome and relaxed. The building itself has waterside views providing a great outlook and interest for residents. The care and kindness shown to my father at Bridgeside Lodge has been 'second to none'. Consequently, he has settled into what feels like an extended family in the section of the centre in which he resides. He loves the meals, which can be taken quite flexibly if the need arises. There is a lovely outside space to enjoy 9weather permitting) and also at events, music, BBQ etc. One of the best features of Bridgeside Lodge is continuity of staff that are permanent employees; we have not noticed use of 'temps' or 'agency' which might be less positive. As Bridgeside Lodge, the staff quickly react to maintain the health and hygiene of my father, with the local surgery having very approachable GP's nearby. Our whole family is very glad we found Bridgeside Lodge for Dad!

Bridgeside Lodge is a very well managed care home. My brother has been a resident there for 2 months and I am very happy with the care he is receiving.
He is getting the very best of food and every effort is made to encourage him to eat. A special soft diet has been arranged. My brother has a skin care nurse visiting him regularly. He has speech therapy and assessments of his dementia condition.

I find the management and staff very approachable and helpful.

I was delighted to find my old friend to be clean, happy and absorbed by activity - both within the care and the view from their communal spaces. I believe that he is in good hands and with a kindness demonstrated by staff including manager.

Bravo at the good atmosphere and general care!

Our friend spent the last three weeks of his life in Bridgeside Lodge, having been transferred there after three weeks in the hospital. He had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer at the beginning of September and his deterioration was very rapid. However, he was so happy to get a room at Bridgeside Lodge and although he wasn't really well enough to participate in any activities provided, he really appreciated the care and kindness he received. As his friends, we were really grateful for all the support, both practical and emotional, that the staff gave us as well.

Besides being situated within a lovely, tranquil location by the canal, Bridgeside Lodge is an extremely well run care home. All the staff that were involved with my father's care were thorough, attentive and considerate. My father, my family and myself were made to feel very welcome and a part of the home. Nothing was too much trouble and there was always a lovely, positive atmosphere whatever time of the day you visited. I always felt that my father was with a safe pair of hands and couldn't have been in a better place. The whole ethos of professionalism and consistency was not only reassuring but a huge relief and for that, I am extremely grateful to all who were involved with his care.
