Very well run. Staff at all levels understand the Westwood House Care Home ethos and their roles and responsibilities, when residents with wide-ranging disabilities, physical or neurological, are dealt with with patience, calmness, and warmth. Impressive & a varied programme of activities, often engaging outside organisations and an inventive and dedicated in-house staff provide interest from and include residents. The nurses and medical care they provide are first rate. A GP visits weekly, and coordination with therapists is excellent. Safety and security are ensured by the vigilance of all staff. Meals are healthy and varied. Senior staff deal quickly with any issues quickly. Very highly recommended.

This is an excellent care home, The building is modern and clean with a spacious, airy feel to it, good facilities and a nice garden. The staff are first class (the nursing staff in particular) and have treated my friend with kindness and compassion. Her needs are sometimes unusual and yet they bend over backwards to try to make her comfortable, nothing is too much trouble.

I highly recommend Westwood House.

Barchester Westwood House Team excel in making there environment feel not only safe and secure but a very much loved and welcoming environment for all the residents. Simple examples I have noticed this month are the care and attention to the dining room, tables always immaculately set with table linen, flowers & menus and even during recent kitchen upgrades excellent food that residents come together to enjoy. The entertainment team and front of house ensure fun days and no important date passes without acknowledgment. As one would expect personal and medical care is excellent. It is with great comfort that I entrust them with the care of my mum.

Mary Plante
Mary PlanteJob Title:Senior NurseJoined: 2024

Mary joined Westwood House in 2024. Originally from Ireland, Mary joined Westwood House two years ago and quickly became a much-loved member of the team. Her warm personality and sense of humour help residents feel at ease, and she believes that a smile or a laugh can make all the difference to someone’s day. One of her favourite parts of being a nurse is taking the time to sit with residents, hear about where they grew up, the jobs they did, the families they raised and the memories that have shaped their lives. She says every resident has an incredible story to tell, and she feels privileged to be the one listening.

For Mary, nursing is about so much more than clinical care. It’s about building trust, making people feel valued and treating every resident as an individual. She loves being part of the Westwood House family and enjoys working alongside a caring team who all share the same goal – helping residents feel happy, comfortable and truly at home.

Since joining Westwood House, I've discovered just how much a meaningful activity can brighten someone's day. I love getting to know our residents, learning about their interests and life stories, and using that to create activities that are enjoyable, inclusive, and personal to them.

Whether we're celebrating a special occasion, getting creative with arts and crafts, enjoying quizzes and games, exercising together, or heading out on a community trip, my goal is always to make sure everyone feels involved and has something to look forward to.

The best part of my job is seeing residents smile, laugh, share memories, and build friendships. It's incredibly rewarding to know that even the smallest moments can make a real difference. I'm proud to be part of the Westwood House family and look forward to creating many more happy memories with our residents and their loved ones.

Hello, my name is Jessica. I was born and raised in Portugal and moved to London ten years ago to begin my professional journey. After working primarily in hospitality, I joined Barchester in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, first as a Carer and later as an Activities Assistant. Supporting residents, building meaningful relationships and bringing moments of happiness into their lives became an incredibly rewarding experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.

In 2021, I left Barchester to develop my career in hotel management, but I soon realised how much I missed the sense of purpose that comes from working with residents. I therefore returned as a Bank Activities Assistant. Seeing residents smile, helping them feel included and creating joyful, meaningful experiences gives me a genuine sense of fulfilment and reminds me why this role is so special.

Beverley TaylorJob Title:Registered NurseJoined: 2024

My name is Beverley Taylor, and I am a Staff Nurse at Westwood House Care Home, part of Barchester Healthcare. I have been a Registered Nurse since 2002, after graduating from King’s College University.

I spent over 20 years working at King’s College Hospital, where I was based in the Renal Dialysis and High Dependency Unit. Throughout my career there, I developed strong clinical and leadership skills and eventually retired in 2024 as a Ward Manager. My time in the NHS shaped me into the nurse I am today and gave me a deep appreciation for high standards, teamwork, and compassionate care. In November 2024, I joined Westwood House Care Home, where I now use my experience to care for older adults and residents living with dementia.

I am passionate about providing person-centred care and ensuring residents feel safe, respected, and valued. I genuinely enjoy working with the team at Westwood House. Building strong relationships with both colleagues and residents is very important to me, and I take pride in helping create a warm, family-like environment. I believe strongly in a whole-team approach to care, where communication, support, and collaboration are key.

I truly love my role and look forward to coming to work each day, knowing I am part of a team that works together to provide the best possible care for our residents.
