My mum came into the home in April and is gradually settling in. I find the staff always very positive about my mum and welcoming to us. We visit at all times of day and evening, and always find a calm and friendly atmosphere, despite the challenges that many of the residents have. I feel the carers
manage the residents well and are patient and kind. The communal areas are comfortable and inviting, and the whole environment feels clean and hospitable. Some of the meals that I have seen could be improved with more variety of vegetables.

Since there has been a change of management there has been a great improvement in the home as some things had declined previously. The staff are a great joy and bring a lot of compassion and caring to the home. They are the glue that holds Westwood together. My mother has made some great friends with
the residents and staff and I don't have to worry about her as I know she is well looked after and cared for and never lonely as there is always something going on to entertain the residents.

Would like to say the staff are very good to my mum, she struggles sometimes to understand why she is in a home but they really comfort her. There are no staff I have issues with, all great. The only issue I have there is laundry a lot can go missing and have to chase to find it.

A welcoming care home. Residents seem relaxed and happy. Good social contacts in the coffee lounges although many residents seem to fall asleep in their coffee lounge chairs.

Such a kind and loving welcome for both me and my wife during her stay here. Nursing care was absolutely superb. Even in her confused condition, she still would say she was at peace and comfortable. Her personal care was out of this world, and I can only say a massive "thank you" to you all for everything.

The care and kindness at Westwood House are exceptional. From the moment we first visited we felt confident that our mother would be very well looked after here. All of the staff are warm and welcoming, no matter how busy they are and nothing is too much trouble. Our mother, who has complex needs, is
treated professionally, with respect, love and good humour. Communication with staff is very much a two-way process, and liaising with the senior team is very easy – there is a great sense of mutual trust throughout which makes visiting such a joy. The home has a lovely atmosphere, it's always spotlessly clean and well-kept, and the facilities for residents and their guests are really lovely. There's also a lovely garden! At what is a really difficult time of life for many, this is as close to 'being at home' as it possibly could be. Settling in was hard for her, and for us all, but we've got there together, with the help and support of all at Westwood House.

The staff at Westwood House are all incredibly friendly, attentive and welcoming to residents and visitors. The office staff, carers and hospitality staff are all so professional and respectful in how they treat our mother. We appreciate very much the nursing staff who have been diligent in ensuring
Mum is comfortable and her needs are met. The furnishings, the gardens and the food are all high quality but most important of all the level of care given to Mum has been excellent and we are very grateful to Westwood House for providing her with all the support she needs.

Recently a lifelong friend who was a resident at Westwood House Care Home passed away. During the period of over two years that my friend was a resident at Westwood House, the carers always showed the utmost kindness and compassion, always caring and professional at all times. Visitors like myself were
always made very welcome, updating regularly on our loved ones care.
Westwood House including residents rooms was always clean and well presented, with no awful smells. Meals were also well presented and appetizing.

On one occasion I noticed 2-3 staff on social calls on their mobiles, lovely staff on the whole. The outdoor grounds are a bit run down, pigeon poo on some of the chairs and tables. Dead plants. Staff on their mobiles was not a good look while residents sat alone. One woman was crying in her room and
her door was shut. I thought perhaps nothing could be done for her and the staff are extremely busy. Can't comment on activities as I don't see them. I get the idea Mum doesn't go outside much for fresh air.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.638)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.638) out of 10 for Barchester Westwood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.638 for Barchester Westwood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 235 Ratings = 4.638
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Westwood House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I truly love my role and look forward to coming to work each day, knowing I am part of a team that works together to provide the best possible care for our residents.

Job Title: Registered General Nurse Joined: 2026

I originally came to the UK from India in 2022 and joined Barchester Healthcare as a Senior Carer. Although my ambition was always to continue my nursing career, I was unable to come to the UK as a Registered Nurse initially. With Barchester’s support and encouragement, I successfully completed my CBT and OSCE examinations, obtained my NMC PIN, and progressed into my role as a Registered Nurse.

I am proud to be part of the team at Westwood House, where I work alongside dedicated colleagues who are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Barchester has played an important role in my professional development, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to grow my career.

I am passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of our residents by providing compassionate, individualised care. Outside of work, I enjoy listening to music and watching movies, which help me relax and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

My journey to becoming a nurse began when I moved from India to the UK in 2023 as an international nursing student, leaving my family behind to follow my dream. After graduating in 2026, I was proud to begin my career with Barchester Healthcare, where I found not just a job, but a welcoming and supportive community.

I am now part of the wonderful team at Westwood House Barchester Care Home, and I truly enjoy coming to work every day. From the very beginning, I have felt supported, valued, and encouraged to grow professionally. Barchester is committed to helping its colleagues develop and progress in their careers, and I am grateful to be part of such a caring and inspiring team. Outside of nursing, I have a real passion for drawing, and I hope to share this with our residents by introducing creative art activities that encourage self-expression, conversation, and enjoyment.
