My grandfather resided at Westwood house for around 2 years, before he sadly died on Monday.
I could not have asked for more from a care home.
The staff go above and beyond and the manager is so passionate about the resident's wellbeing, as well as the family's comfort when visiting the home.
This is what Westwood House became to me, a home and a family.

I cannot thank the manager and her team enough.

My mum came into the home in April and is gradually settling in. I find the staff always very positive about my mum and welcoming to us. We visit at all times of day and evening, and always find a calm and friendly atmosphere, despite the challenges that many of the residents have. I feel the carers manage the residents well and are patient and kind. The communal areas are comfortable and inviting, and the whole environment feels clean and hospitable. Some of the meals that I have seen could be improved with more variety of vegetables.

Since there has been a change of management there has been a great improvement in the home as some things had declined previously. The staff are a great joy and bring a lot of compassion and caring to the home. They are the glue that holds Westwood together. My mother has made some great friends with the residents and staff and I don't have to worry about her as I know she is well looked after and cared for and never lonely as there is always something going on to entertain the residents.

Would like to say the staff are very good to my mum, she struggles sometimes to understand why she is in a home but they really comfort her. There are no staff I have issues with, all great. The only issue I have there is laundry a lot can go missing and have to chase to find it.

Such a kind and loving welcome for both me and my wife during her stay here. Nursing care was absolutely superb. Even in her confused condition, she still would say she was at peace and comfortable. Her personal care was out of this world, and I can only say a massive "thank you" to you all for everything.

The care and kindness at Westwood House are exceptional. From the moment we first visited we felt confident that our mother would be very well looked after here. All of the staff are warm and welcoming, no matter how busy they are and nothing is too much trouble. Our mother, who has complex needs, is treated professionally, with respect, love and good humour. Communication with staff is very much a two-way process, and liaising with the senior team is very easy – there is a great sense of mutual trust throughout which makes visiting such a joy. The home has a lovely atmosphere, it's always spotlessly clean and well-kept, and the facilities for residents and their guests are really lovely. There's also a lovely garden! At what is a really difficult time of life for many, this is as close to 'being at home' as it possibly could be. Settling in was hard for her, and for us all, but we've got there together, with the help and support of all at Westwood House.

The staff at Westwood House are all incredibly friendly, attentive and welcoming to residents and visitors. The office staff, carers and hospitality staff are all so professional and respectful in how they treat our mother. We appreciate very much the nursing staff who have been diligent in ensuring Mum is comfortable and her needs are met. The furnishings, the gardens and the food are all high quality but most important of all the level of care given to Mum has been excellent and we are very grateful to Westwood House for providing her with all the support she needs.

Recently a lifelong friend who was a resident at Westwood House Care Home passed away. During the period of over two years that my friend was a resident at Westwood House, the carers always showed the utmost kindness and compassion, always caring and professional at all times. Visitors like myself were always made very welcome, updating regularly on our loved ones care.

Westwood House including residents rooms was always clean and well presented, with no awful smells. Meals were also well presented and appetizing.

Mary PlanteJob Title:Senior NurseJoined: 2024

Mary joined Westwood House in 2024. Originally from Ireland, Mary joined Westwood House two years ago and quickly became a much-loved member of the team. Her warm personality and sense of humour help residents feel at ease, and she believes that a smile or a laugh can make all the difference to someone’s day. One of her favourite parts of being a nurse is taking the time to sit with residents, hear about where they grew up, the jobs they did, the families they raised and the memories that have shaped their lives. She says every resident has an incredible story to tell, and she feels privileged to be the one listening.

For Mary, nursing is about so much more than clinical care. It’s about building trust, making people feel valued and treating every resident as an individual. She loves being part of the Westwood House family and enjoys working alongside a caring team who all share the same goal – helping residents feel happy, comfortable and truly at home.

Since joining Westwood House, I've discovered just how much a meaningful activity can brighten someone's day. I love getting to know our residents, learning about their interests and life stories, and using that to create activities that are enjoyable, inclusive, and personal to them.

Whether we're celebrating a special occasion, getting creative with arts and crafts, enjoying quizzes and games, exercising together, or heading out on a community trip, my goal is always to make sure everyone feels involved and has something to look forward to.

The best part of my job is seeing residents smile, laugh, share memories, and build friendships. It's incredibly rewarding to know that even the smallest moments can make a real difference. Hello, my name is Jessica. I was born and raised in Portugal and moved to London ten years ago to begin my professional journey. After working primarily in hospitality, I joined Barchester in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, first as a Carer and later as an Activities Assistant. Supporting residents, building meaningful relationships and bringing moments of happiness into their lives became an incredibly rewarding experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.

In 2021, I left Barchester to develop my career in hotel management, but I soon realised how much I missed the sense of purpose that comes from working with residents. I therefore returned as a Bank Activities Assistant. Seeing residents smile, helping them feel included and creating joyful, meaningful experiences gives me a genuine sense of fulfilment and reminds me why this role is so special.

My name is Beverley Taylor, and I am a Staff Nurse at Westwood House Care Home, part of Barchester Healthcare. I have been a Registered Nurse since 2002, after graduating from King’s College University.

Throughout my career there, I developed strong clinical and leadership skills and eventually retired in 2024 as a Ward Manager. In November 2024, I joined Westwood House Care Home, where I now use my experience to care for older adults and residents living with dementia.

I am passionate about providing person-centred care and ensuring residents feel safe, respected, and valued. I genuinely enjoy working with the team at Westwood House. Building strong relationships with both colleagues and residents is very important to me, and I take pride in helping create a warm, family-like environment. I believe strongly in a whole-team approach to care, where communication, support, and collaboration are key.

I truly love my role and look forward to coming to work each day, knowing I am part of a team that works together to provide the best possible care for our residents.
