Excellent knowledgeable staff, clean environment.
My friend that I went with said his Dad was well looked after. Good variety of food. Great activities and exercise sections.
Rooms are tidy and spacious. Nice big garden.

My friend has been treated with great care and understanding by the team on the 2nd floor since his arrival in February. Special shout out to four staff members in particular for their warm and kindly attitude in what must be a very demanding job.

My mum went into Windmill Lodge Care Home last May. I cannot thank the staff enough for their valuable support and care and understanding they have given to my mum in the time she has spent there. They encourage her to engage in all the fun activities which she really enjoys. When I visit I always
have so much fun with Mum and the other residents - it's so lovely to see them happy and smiling. I have really built up a great relationship with all the carers and senior staff at Windmill. It offers a safe and caring environment. She has a lovely room with en-suite facilities and it always looks neat and tidy when I visit. Staff are patient and kind. My mum is so settled now in Windmill and finally I can rest easy knowing she is well cared for and safe. It was the best decision my sisters and I made to ensure her wellbeing. She has made lots of friends and the staff call her the Dancing Queen! She loves dancing and so wonderful to see - it melts my heart. Thank you.

Windmill Lodge Care Home is truly a caring place. The staff genuinely show compassion in talking to my brother and work hard to get to know him. My brother presents with a complex set of issues that limit his independence, especially his mobility and his memory. The staff have developed a care plan
that attempts to address important limitations for him, especially encouraging him to do more for himself, while at the same time giving him the help he needs in a dignified manner. I am thankful to all the staff for their diligent care for my brother and all the other residents.

Whenever I visit my friend in the Windmill Lodge Care Home, I always find the staff are very friendly towards any visitors and very attentive towards the residents, regardless of their wants and needs. The staff are always proactive with the residents. Today when I visited, the Lifestyle Coordinator
had organised a sing song with another staff member playing the piano, everyone was encouraged to join in, both residents and visitors alike. You could see the enjoyment on the faces of all the residents who joined in.

It was so great to see the Windmill Lodge choir. The musician was playing the piano and the residents were joining in. I viewed it on their online page, I was so pleased to see this new initiative it was fabulous. Every time I come my 103-year-old mum is taking part or watching the activities.

My mother was always fiercely independent and happiest helping others. So I was very nervous when she had to move to a care home. But Windmill Lodge is not just any care home, it really is like a family. I see my mother given warmth, affection, respect and interest. It has become clear that staff have
watched, listened and learned what helps her specific needs and they show the same care and kindness to me. There is often laughter, hugs, staff being patient if anyone is distressed. The manager is open to discussion of ideas/feedback and there is an ongoing, progressive sense of exploring new and varied ways of providing entertainment, engagement and activity for residents. My mother is happier now, at Windmill Lodge, than she had been for years. She has mental stimulation, fun and has been given purposeful things to do. She has friends among the residents and staff. Chef makes a fantastic birthday cake for residents too! The premises are clean, fresh and bright, like the welcome on arrival.
Reply from Celia Hardill, Regional Director (Milton Keynes) at Windmill Lodge Care HomeThank you for your review for Windmill Lodge. The professional manner in which the Windmill Lodge Care Home is run is second to none. From the daily activities to the clean resident's rooms. All staff conduct their duties with care and compassion. As the son of a resident, my family and I are so grateful for the care shown to my parent.

I did not want my uncle to be placed in a care home but I now see it was the best thing my family could have done. Uncle was isolated at home and now he has company and is really well taken care of. The staff are always available, his room is clean and he is now starting to eat properly. I am happy
that my uncle is finally happy.

I have always found the staff to be very professional, friendly and helpful. I have visited the home on many occasions over the last year and have always found the staff to be very professional and respectful towards my godfather. I have also been very impressed with the way the home always looks clean
and tidy and this has always been commented on by anyone I have taken with me on my visits.

My mum has been in Windmill Lodge since January this year. I am very pleased with the care she receives from all the staff. It is spotlessly clean and she is always clean and tidy. My one complaint is there is not enough staff, especially at the weekends. The staff do their very best but really can’t
cut themselves in half. With more staff, the home would be perfect

Management is never available. They seem to spend their working days consistently in meetings and information is not shared and conveyed between staff as it should be. They do not do what they say they are going to do and there seems to be a practice of untruth. Residents are left in their beds and
only dressed when they are having visitors to give the impression that they are dressed every day. Residents are being left with unbrushed teeth and inadequate hygiene care. The telephones are hardly ever answered and you can be left standing at the entrance door for ages as the receptionist appears to be run ragged with other duties, which gives the impression of a business who are short of staff or miss managed. I really feel sorry for the residents based on my experience thus far and can't wait until our loved one is relocated.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.824)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.824) out of 10 for Windmill Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.824 for Windmill Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (284 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 340 Ratings = 4.824
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Windmill Lodge Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 93 registered maximum number of service users is 18.6, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
