My Dad has now been at Aston House Care Home for nearly a year. During that time his dementia has advanced and he has had some other health problems. He has had some quite challenging behaviour too. Throughout, the Manager and team at Aston House have been excellent. The quality of the care is first
class but what has also been most valuable is their proactive approach to liaising with the Health Board, GP and Social Worker to manage Dad's needs - all of which was completely unknown to me.

We have had a couple of issues with the cleanliness of the bathroom in Dad's room but they have been addressed as soon as they have been raised. We also understand the home is due to undergo some renovation work, which will improve facilities.

Overall, my experience has been very positive and it's clear the staff have come to know and understand Dad's needs and are caring and attentive with all residents. The Aston House team consistently demonstrate compassion and kindness and I am very happy with Dad's care.

We were promptly and cheerfully at the front door. Everyone we saw acknowledged us with a smile and a greeting. When we needed help to sit my sister up it was there done ion seconds and she moved professionally.

Mum has settled into Aston House very well. After three weeks, she is calling it home. All the staff are brilliant with her and know her needs and limitations. Her diet is catered for brilliantly. The garden is lovely to sit in. The staff are friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble.

My dad has been in Aston House since June 2015. He is well cared for and the staff keep us informed of his care needs. Staff work very hard and are kind and caring. Everyone is fully aware of the special care and attention someone with dementia needs and attends with respect and dignity. As dad needs
24 hour care we couldn't ask for him to be anywhere better.

My husband is a resident at Aston House and has been for the last twelve months. He has late stages of dementia and from what I can see he is well looked after and the staff are great and treat residents and relatives with a lot of respect. For myself I feel very comfortable he's okay. When I come home
and have to leave him there.

I am extremely happy and speak on behalf of my brother with the care our mother receives. The interaction between our mother and staff is really good. We are regular visitors at least every other day and are able to witness the care our mother and other residents receive which is second to none.

My father-in-law is well loved and well cared for at Aston House. The staff clearly know him and understand how to meet his needs, lesson his anxiety and care for him so well, despite his advancing dementia. The home is extremely welcoming and the staff are every caring. There are lots of activities
and it's lovely to be able to see photographs of what the residents have been doing and to look at their arts and crafts materials.

Please see my first review of Aston House dated 09/06/14. Unfortunately my father is now coming to the end of his life having spent 6 years at Aston House. All of the staff have been most kind and have enabled us to have a good quality life at the home.
The staff are very attentive to my fathers
care needs and keep me informed of any changes and in all aspects of his care.
Recently I had to make the difficult decision for my father to either go into hospital or to remain at Aston house for his end of life care. I have chosen for him to remain at Aston House as I know I can trust the staff to take good care of my father. The staff have been very supportive in my decision and ensure that the time we have left together is a comfortable one.
I cannot thank Aston House staff enough for all their kindness and support over the years. They have and continue to be most outstanding. I highly recommend Aston House to anyone who is looking for excellent quality of care and peace of mind.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.814)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.814) out of 10 for Aston House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.793 for Aston House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.793
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.021 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aston House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.521
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
