Reviews

9.2 Cedar House Care Home has a Review Score of 9.2 (9.177)

The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Cedar House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Cedar House Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.177 for Cedar House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (41 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.177

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar House Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8.4 positive Reviews (42 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 8.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Although mum was fairly unaware of her surroundings, she appeared content and not unhappy. She was well cared for by the regular staff who got to know her well, sadly agency staff have to be used a lot of the time and do not have the same rapport.
We were very grateful for the kindness and care given to mum up to the end of her life.

There is so much bad news in the Media about care homes, but this one is a gold star home.

Mum moved into Cedar House in January 2017 and I could not be happier with her care. The staff are amazing and very caring. She is kept clean and warm at all times. She is treated with dignity, the rooms are clean and bright and the manager is a lovely lady. I am 100% happy with Mum living at Cedars.

This care home offers a pleasant home for residents needing additional support.
The staff are kind and helpful but overstretched and too many experienced carers have left recently.
The food is satisfactory but not hot enough.
They try to serve suitable meals, according to the residents' needs.
There is a long gap between supper at 17.30 and breakfast at 09.00. There should be a light meal between.
There has been an intake of more difficult to deal with residents without an increase in staff.
Leading to a time squeeze for the others.

Katie Price, Careline Advisor at Cedar House Care Home responded to this review on 03 Oct 2017:

Thank you for your feedback, we value your comments on our service.
There has been some staff leaving the service recently for their own personal development. We are of course working on recruiting suitable replacements at this time. The food served is temperature checked at the point of service to ensure that it is at the required temperature. A fresh meal can be made if the resident feels that their food is not served hot enough for them. There are snacks available throughout the home for residents to have after supper and before breakfast service, with the serveries on both floors stocked with cereals, instant porridge, bread and butter for toast, biscuits, crisps, tins of soup, and a selection of sandwiches in the fridge made fresh every evening.

Residents are carefully assessed before being accepted in the home for admission.
As many residents have a diagnosis of Dementia they require some time to settle into their new environment. The residents' dependency is checked against other residents in the home and the staffing is planned accordingly. Please feel free to speak to the Home Manager at any time that you have a concern so that this can be actioned appropriately'

Has made progress. Staff are well trained and observant. It is a happier place and information about patients and the premises/activities are regularly shared.
Congratulations to all concerned. Your job is not easy but your work is vital. Thank you for providing a good service and a home for my aunt at a difficult time.

On my mother's arrival, she was greeted by a young carer. She knelt down to speak to her in a most caring manner. She was respectful and spoke to her as an adult. The carer was very young and really impressed me and I will never forget.

I was happy to leave my husband in the good care of the manager and her team at Cedar House Care Home whilst I had a much-needed break. I knew that he would be cared for in a professional environment with friendly, capable and caring staff.

I will be happy to use the service again in the future.

My mother has been a resident for 6 months now, she is looked after and cared for extremely well. As a family, we are more than happy. This is a very well run nursing home. I have moved 90 miles away from the home now, I will visit less often but I am more than confident that my mother is very well looked after. Thank you team.

My husband cannot express himself so it is difficult to know how he feels. He has Vascular Dementia.
He seems happy and comfortable in this house.
The staff are very pleasant and good at what they do.
My husband has been in this home for 2 and a half months and he has settled in nicely. I am glad and grateful I found this home for him.

The staff and management are friendly and work very hard. They are always willing to listen and help. The home is kept clean even though it can be difficult. I would like to see more fruit available although I only see some meals. It would be nice to see more activities, even if it was basic. Would it be a good idea to offer people who are trying to break into the entertainment world the chance to have an audience?

HC-One, Careline Team at Cedar House Care Home responded to this review on 09 Nov 2016:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.

Thank you for your kind comments on the staff and the management at the Home and for your positive comments on our housekeeping standards; it is always lovely to receive praise for the hard work our dedicated staff team undertake each day.
You have highlighted the need to offer more fruits; we offer fresh fruits with the tea trolley during the afternoon on a daily basis as suggested by our Residents, who enjoy this service.
An Activity Coordinator has been appointed and she is due to commence her role with us this week. There are entertainers arranged to come into the home to entertain our residents over the forthcoming festive period.
The Home Manager operates an open door policy, feel free to call in any time to discuss any concerns you may have.

Cedar House is a very caring place and my mother is very well looked after. My mother's needs are treated with sympathy and she is constantly reviewed. The rooms are clean and fresh and food good.

The resident came in from being in hospital not eating and drinking much. She was treated with tit bits that she would like and within ten days was eating and drinking normally. The resident is treated as an individual and with respect. Understanding her needs, likes and dislikes is hugely important. All the staff are caring and giving of their time.

My father in law was in the cedar house nursing home for about 6 weeks prior to his death a few weeks ago. We felt that he was related with dignity during his time there. He was warm comfortable and had everything he needed or wanted. The carers were friendly and attentive and we were very happy with his care.
