My aunt has been resident at Derwent Lodge for over 4 years and gets on well with the staff. She likes to join in all events that are held, especially "outings" as I cannot take her by car now. I live in Berkshire and can only visit every two weeks. Although my aunt is a small eater, she enjoys her
breakfast every day and the staff and kitchen know her likes and dislikes. If my aunt is feeling under the weather a member of staff telephones me. Many staff have been at Derwent Lodge many years and know her very well and have a good, friendly, professional relationship with her and me. The activity coordinator has introduced new ideas for residents.

Since my mother had been at Derwent Lodge, she had all her needs met and more. The staff were so pleasant they always said Hello and always had a smile on their faces. My mother was very ill but the staff never gave up they always encouraged her to eat and drink even when she refused. They were patient,
calm and caring. I was worried when she had to go into a nursing home but I can honestly say that all my fears went away. The care she got put my mind at rest. Unfortunately mum passed away but I know her last months were peaceful.

It is very difficult finding the right place and you never know until you commit. What makes it the right place is the staff. Derwent Lodge has staff that is beyond fault. They are professional, caring and friendly to residents and their guests. I will recommend them to anyone as they make you feel
that your decisions are the right ones.

My mother was in Derwent Lodge for seven years until her passing a few weeks ago. The care and respect she received was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for, the staff always made all our family feel welcome, we were updated on her care very regularly and my mother was treated almost like
a family member by all the staff. On her passing, we were given comfort and support by everyone for which I cannot thank them enough. I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home to anyone in a position to need their services.

We were really pleased with everything. Staff were brilliant with my husband. He was very happy the 3 weeks he spent there. The staff could not have done any more for him. Really clean environment, lovely seating area in the garden. Rooms were very clean and spacious. The food was good and he felt it
was like a second home. When he passed the staff we brilliant with the family.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.446)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.446) out of 10 for Derwent Lodge Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.723 for Derwent Lodge Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 141 Ratings = 4.723
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.723 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Derwent Lodge Care Centre is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.923
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
