Treated very well and respectfully by all staff. However on occasion sleep is disturbed by residents with dementia in nearby rooms making a lot of noise at night.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at The Hornchurch Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you feel your loved one is treated with respect and kindness by our staff, as this is extremely important to us.
We are sorry to hear that their sleep is occasionally disturbed. Supporting residents living with dementia can sometimes involve managing behaviours that occur during the night, and we understand how challenging this can be for others nearby. Our team works closely to minimise disruption wherever possible and to support all residents' comfort and wellbeing, particularly overnight.
Thank you again for your comments, which help us to continue improving the care and environment we provide.

I am extremely pleased that my mum who is 89 suffering from Alzheimer and dementia is now safe and well cared for in Hornchurch Care Home. The nurses, carerers and manager are marvelous. They are very friendly and professional. My mum is much more carmer and happier now.
The rooms are lovely and
have a good size. The care home has a lovely warm atmosphere and they make everyone very welcome. Mum loves the activities they also provide.

My mum was only in the care home for a very short period of time before she passed away. The staff were extremely attentive and kind and I could not fault the care that my mum received. Everyone we spoke to went out of their way to help in any way they could. The staff updated me on a daily basis regarding
mum's condition and were very professional. Our family were looked after very well when we visited. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for being there with us and for providing my dear mum with first class care.

My wife could not have been looked after any better. I've always said this must be the best care home in London (or anywhere). Well done everybody.

From the first moment to the last, everyone (staff) have been unbelievable, kind and caring with such understanding of everyone's needs. The care for my neighbour (and I was there most days) was to a level that even I couldn't believe, the staff and management deserve a lot of credit for the way they
go about their daily tasks to ensure patient and visitors are well cared for. Thank you for everything.

My aunt was only in the care home for a short time before she passed away but we could not fault the care and compassion of every member of staff, not only to my aunt but her two sisters aswell. She was only in there a short time but we felt she was well looked after and treated with dignity.
The whole
care home was always clean whenever we visited and the food looked delicious.

Our family would like to thank all of the staff for their kindness.

The staff are excellent with looking after my Dad. They have respected his wish to not have the hoist used to allow him to be in the lounge so that he can remain in his room where he is happy.
The facilities are very good even though he does not use as many as he used to. He enjoys the food and the
chance to watch his own programs on the TV.
The staff ensures that his hygiene is as good as he will allow them.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.656)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.656) out of 10 for The Hornchurch Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.656 for The Hornchurch Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.656
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hornchurch Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
