From the moment I was shown around the home, I felt this would be the place for my elderly relative. The environment was welcoming, clean with a pleasant aroma of home-cooked food. Every member of staff we encountered was caring, knowledgable and keen to listen. My mother was efficiently settled into her room and the staff quickly learned about her medical conditions. I felt my mother was safe and secure and I had good access. I highly recommend this home.

Family member who came to Hornchurch Care Home were instantly made very welcome. The nurses, carers and everyone involved in his care are great. He very much enjoyed his stay here and was very sad to leave.

Our mum came to the Hornchurch Care Home in April 2021 and has been wonderfully cared for by an amazing team of people, from the nurses to the carers, laundry team, cleaners and cooks. We couldn't have asked for more an we would like to thank everyone at the home for the love and care that was given to Mum. You are all very special people - thank you.

My father had the worst time in this home (I can't even call it a care home).
He has Alzheimer's and his behaviour can be challenging but the home has a dementia unit and assured us they could cope with his needs.
The staff could not cope with his needs.
My father's room was small, ill-equipped and constantly sticky. He was constantly left for hours on end.
His bed and clothing were frequently soiled and wet.
Within weeks of him arriving here, it was clear that the home could not cope and the staff were completely overwhelmed.
There was incident after incident and nobody was on hand to provide any information.
The management were never available to provide support to us - we were so disappointed.
I recommend anyone to think very carefully before considering this home.

He has now been moved.

Amazing, marvellous, wonderful! My father was in a local hospice and could not return home after being discharged from there as we could not cope with his needs at home. Naturally, we, as a family, were concerned whether this care home would be good enough but after a couple of days, our minds were at peace that it was the right place for Dad. Everyone was friendly...admin, laundry, nursing, carers and even the cooks whom we met with at some point! They all treated Dad with dignity and respect. He was kept comfortable and out of pain. When his appetite waned and he wanted egg and chips instead of the usual lunch, it was not a problem. A call was made to the kitchen and 20 minutes later a plate of very hot and well-cooked egg and chips arrived. The food was all good and plentiful. A timetable in his room of all the daily activities. Clean, good-sized room. If you are looking for a care home for a loved one, this is well worth a visit. Well done and thank you to everyone who looked after Dad.

My relative was neglected here. She was bedbound, unable to move or speak. The staff could not cope with her needs. The building itself is not fit for purpose. The windows hardly open, and there is no aircon. My relative's room was tiny, ill-equipped and excessively hot. She was discharged here without my consent. Within minutes of arriving, it was clear the home could not cater for her needs. It was also clear the lack of staff could not cope with the sheer number of people needing care there.
The nurses/care assistants severely lack appropriate training and leave people buzzing for help, they are overwhelmed. I witnessed people crying out for someone to help them, as they were about to wet themselves or worse. At this time all the staff had vacated the floor for a team meeting in the manager's office.

I recommend anyone to inspect this home multiple times at different times of day/night to be sure you want to leave someone you care about here. If I could leave zero stars I would.

The only home we researched had a lovely garden with plenty of real flowers and plants! I felt at home as soon as I entered. Pleasant, nicely decorated, clean surroundings with friendly, caring staff. My friend celebrated his 82nd birthday last week and the home made it a really special occasion for him. My only problem is that he cannot use a mobile phone, and it is (understandably) often difficult to get busy staff to answer the telephone and take their mobile to him. Apart from that we are so glad he moved homes!

Mum and the other residents had a fantastic day just like a day at the seaside with fish and chips, ice creams, a beach, paddling pools and inflated balls. Everything had been thought of even the weather played ball. Thank you.

I was very pleased with the attention and kindness shown to my mother and pleased with our choice of care home after visiting a number of them and having previous experience via other relatives.
The difficult years with Covid proved difficult for everyone and I am pleased with our decision.

My thanks to everyone for your help.

Overall, my experience with the home is good. I'm happy with the care my mum is receiving but with some carers their duties, I have found, to be quite poor. I feel they require more training and could be more considerate to the required needs as even when leaving clear instructions they are not being followed through.

My mother was only in their care for a few days having been referred on a fast-track transfer from hospital for end of life care. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and kindness she received from all the staff on Floor 1. They were cheerful, kind and nothing was too much trouble. In my mother’s final hours they were respectful and treated us all with dignity and compassion. They did everything they could to make her final days as comfortable and safe as possible. Thank you to all the care team and the administrative and management staff for your highly professional care.

Mum was finding it too hard to manage at home, so the decision was made to have a two-week respite break to see if a care home would suit her. After just three days, she knew she wanted to stay. A lovely, warm room, three good meals a day, 24-hour care, daily activities and company. She could not be happier. The staff are wonderful, from the head nurse (the guardian angel) to the office management; all are so pleasant and helpful. Mum is happy, and I am happy she is in the right place.
