My mum has been in The Hornchurch for nearly 2 years and I have been extremely pleased with the care provided for my mum, except for one minor episode, which the manager dealt with extremely competently. The staff are a delight. Thank you.

I feel the care given by the staff to my mum since being admitted here has been very good. They look after her needs on a daily basis. Anytime she has been taken ill they have acted quickly and kept us informed of what was happening. I feel that she is in safe hands being here.

During the six months that my father has been resident at The Hornchurch, I have been impressed by the standard of care and facilities. The residents are treated with patience and kindness.
I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

The staff are very attentive and caring, they welcome visitors at all times without restriction and are willing to answer any questions. The home provides structure to my mother's life with a routine that also ensures that she is cared for and looked after to the best of their ability. Security in the
home is excellent and there are areas that you can use to provide variety of outlook both inside and out. There are always going to be the odd issue with full-time care, the home has listened to any concerns that we have raised.

Our mother has end-stage dementia and have severe care needs. We would just like to thank all the staff for the excellent care she receives. Our mother is always treated with dignity and a smiling face. Nothing is too much bother.
Our father visits daily. He is also made so welcome and the staff understand
his cognitive impairment and keep an eye on him. The activities team helped organise a brilliant celebration of their 60th anniversary and the manager is always very approachable and manages an excellent home.

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My father-in-law was a resident for the last 7 years. Up until 2017, we had no serious issues as the home was run by another company. Then was taken over by another company and went downhill very fast. Management are unapproachable, ignore emails. Turnover of staff is massive with agency being used.
No continuity. My father-in-law hadn't been dead 12 hours and the nurse called and requested us to move the body. No empathy or compassion. Wouldn't recommend this home, no care at all.

Mother has only been in The Hornchurch for a few months but seems to have settled fairly well. Any minor issues have been dealt with efficiently. The manager and staff seem very approachable and caring. Mum is usually clean and happy. The food is good with choices offered each day. Sometimes Mum gets
bored as cannot take herself to chat with other residents if staff busy.

Mum came here initially for respite care after being in hospital for 10 days. Until then, she had been an independent 90 year-old doing everything for herself in her first floor flat. She liked Hornchurch Care Home so much she's decided to stay for good. This was almost entirely due to the professionalism,
attitude, kindness of all the staff from the manager down. They are all fantastic people.

I have been well treated and am warm and comfortable in the home. The food is good. The entertainment schedule is very entertaining. The staff are kind and caring, most of them. Sometimes there is a delay in the answering of the bell, especially at night. The hairdresser and chiropodist come regularly.
I feel my care is good.

I am delighted with the care my Mother has received since becoming a resident here. She started with respite care after a spell in hospital and has enjoyed being looked after so much that she has decided to stay.
The staff are wonderful, genuine people and there are plenty of activities to keep Mum
occupied. Well done everyone!

I have found the Hornchurch Care Home to be a very welcoming warm and friendly establishment, clean and colourful. My wife, being an Alzheimer's patient, is treated with great care and dignity by all the staff and management, sometimes in very trying situations. Nursing staff and carers take a friendly
and light-hearted family approach to their work and always make us feel welcome.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.656)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.656) out of 10 for The Hornchurch Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.656 for The Hornchurch Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.656
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hornchurch Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
