When my mother's problems increased we decided that 24/7 care was needed. Of course, we were apprehensive about putting her into a care home. We felt from the front door that this was a clean, caring place. A resident dog was a very thoughtful touch.

My father was in the care of St Jude's for nearly 1 year.
He had advanced dementia. The staff at St Jude's were very tolerant of his condition and were always compassionate and caring towards him. They treated him with utmost respect and became very friendly with my sister and myself. They were always
happy and jolly which I think rubbed off on all the residents. They are all a credit to their profession.

My brother and I would just like to thank everybody for all that they did for our father. He loved his food I know and he loved all the entertainment. You all made him very comfortable in his last days.
Thank you for looking after us also on our visits. He nearly made St Patrick's Day. That is when
we came last year to see about the home.
All that we are sad about is that nobody from the nursing home, came on the day of his funeral at the crematorium in Croydon at West Chapel even though details were brought into the manager.
Reply from Patricia Fyfe, CQC Registered Manager at St Jude's Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review and it was certainly a pleasure looking after your father and indeed you and your brother too when you visited.
Please accept my sincere apologies that a representative from St Jude's did not attend your father's funeral service. Sometimes in this business of managing the needs of the frail and vulnerable, things just happen which are out of our control and the best-laid plans have to quickly change. Thank you for the Order of Service from his funeral, it is lovely and still displayed proudly for all to remember him. May your father rest in peace.

My father was rehomed at St Jude's after a short stay in hospital. St Jude's was highly recommended by the discharge nurse.
On doing an impromptu visit the reception by staff was very warm and welcoming. There was a thorough explanation of the service and introduction to staff.
Although my father
was here for a short spell, his treatment was outstanding and they were very accommodating and polite to all the family members.

Mum came here 2 weeks ago in terrible pain. Even though she's still suffering pain, she looks so much better. The staff and management are all excellent in both their attitude and the way they perform their duties. Everybody always smiles. Mum says the food is excellent too. I couldn't recommend St
Judes highly enough.

My father was admitted in January. The care and support I received was immense. Nothing has been too difficult for the staff. The respect and care has been outstanding, they have been accommodating of all times. His time here was short but precious. I cannot thank you all a great team. Thanks for looking
after him. God Bless.

My mother is receiving end of life care at St Jude's. She is well looked after in a small but comfortable room. The staff have encouraged her to start eating with a good variety of meals, served in her room. My questions and requests are dealt with quickly. The staff are friendly and welcoming and I
have already recommended the home to a friend.

From our initial visit to find a care home for my mother to settling her in, a warm friendly welcome has been given by all staff at St Jude's. My mother has Alzheimer's and has certainly not been easy for the staff to care for and settle but staff have always been very positive and professional handling
any concerns with confidence and involving outside agencies where necessary thus putting your minds at ease.
Lots of varied activities are offered and enjoyed by the residents visiting relatives alike.
Thank you to all the staff at St June's for making a difficult decision easier.

My mother has been resident at St Jude's since November 2009. She has advanced vascular dementia. Her care since she came here has been virtually faultless. Although she is now bed-bound, she is treated with exactly the level of care, courtesy and sympathy for her needs as a fully enabled resident.
The
leadership of staff is excellent from the manager. Staff are caring for every resident's individual needs and there is a clear feeling of openness and genuine welcome for vulnerable patients and their relatives alike.

St Jude's offers my uncle a safe, comfortable and very considerate, attentive and accommodating when attending to his needs. The home itself is immaculately clean and well maintained. I am kept informed regularly by the staff who also contact me if there are any changes to his care plan or problems
that need dealing with. As the only relative, I feel reassured that my uncle has the best care possible.

My mother-in-law recently moved into St Jude's Nursing Home as her nursing home closed at short notice. Although the move was stressful all the staff at the home have made her, and the rest of the family, extremely welcome. She has settled in the home very quickly and enjoys the activities provided.
The staff are very caring and welcoming during family visits and do everything to ensure that she is comfortable. The food is excellent and the rooms are always clean.

Mum was at St Jude's Nursing Home for 10 months. I cannot thank all the staff for the care help and love she received when she was at St Jude's. I will never forget how she cared for. I would recommend St Jude's to all my friends and family, and if anyone asks me if I could recommend a care home I will
always say St Jude's. Thank you, from us all.

My uncle went into this nursing home for end of life care. My expectations were not very high, but I was very surprised and pleased with the care that he received. I have nothing negative to say about either the nurses or the carers. They all seemed to genuinely care about the welfare of all the residents,
not just my uncle. All the staff care very much, and I thank them.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for St Jude's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.550 for St Jude's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (252 Excellents x 5) + (155 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 424 Ratings = 4.55
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Jude's Nursing Home is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
