Simply delighted with the care given to my sister over the past 4-years and the help and cooperation gave to my niece, who travels up from Cornwall every 3-weeks to visit her Mum. A big thank you to all of the staff for looking after her so well. It is a pleasure to meet them all when we are able to
visit our relative.

My mother moved to St Judes Nursing Home in October 2020, in the middle of the Covid pandemic. It has been a difficult time, as we were not able to enter the home due to the Covid regulations. However, we found all staff to be very helpful and pleasant to talk to. In this technology age, we discussed
my mother's needs via video conferencing and the senior management and nurses were very helpful in making sure Mum received the care she needed. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We were even able to have video meetings with Mum, which was a service that made me and my sister feel we still had contact with Mum. Since Covid regulations were eased earlier this year, we have now been able to visit Mum in the "snug" and these regular visits have made us feel we made the right choice in moving Mum to St Judes. I cannot stress enough how helpful all staff are and they make you feel welcome. A big thank you to all staff at St Judes.
Reply from Patricia Fyfe, CQC Registered Manager at St Jude's Nursing HomeThank you so very much for your lovely review. This past year and half has not been easy and we thank you for your patience and understanding, but now the world is opening up again we can, of course, open up our environment too at St Judes. Inviting loved ones in safely while maintaining the comfort and safety of our vulnerable residents.

Mum is bedridden and does not really wake for more than a few moments each day. She is unable to do anything for herself. Mum is always clean has suffered no bed sores and has put on weight at St Jude's.

Our first impression when entering St Jude's Nursing Home was wow. There were fresh flowers everywhere. It felt so warming and homely. As we were shown the entire home we were certainly not disappointed. Every aspect of the home was beautifully furnished throughout with little touches of a see-through
fish tank and a beautifully maintained garden. The staff, from management to nurses to carers, were absolutely dedicated to their residents. I would certainly recommend St Jude's to anyone that may need the care for their loved ones.

Outstanding care for dementia patients but not for cancer patients, which my mother was suffering from. She was transferred to hospice where she needed to go initially.
Reply from Patricia Fyfe, CQC Registered Manager at St Jude's Nursing HomeDear Reviewer,
Thank you so much for your review, it is very much appreciated. Whilst we do deliver superb end of life palliative care, there are times when specialist palliative intervention is necessary, especially with very complex symptom control. It was the right plan for your mother to be transferred to a hospice so she could receive the specialist medical attention she required. It was a pleasure to have know the family albeit for a short while and I shall, share your comments with the team.

I could not have wished for a better nursing home for my father. The building is clean, bright and has a nice atmosphere. Nursing staff are always kind, cheerful and helpful and very efficient and professional. Any questions about my dad's health were always answered straight away and dealings I had
with the administrative staff were always helpful and professional. The food is excellent. A great place. Thank you.

It was a hard decision to move Mum into residential care, but I am so glad we chose St Jude's. The entire staff, including management and ancillary as well as nurses and carers, are kind and caring people. The rooms are clean and well maintained, food (cooked on the premises), is good and the range
of activities is good. Even in Mum's final weeks when she was bed-bound, she was always well cared for, comfortable with spotless bedding and nightdress. I have no hesitation in recommending St Jude's

After the last hospital admission, Mum got reassessed and she couldn't return to her former care home of 13months. I chose St Jude's mainly for the very good food, activities and the impression I got after visiting there. I had hoped Mum would join in and tried to encourage her but she was perfectly
happy and content to stay in her room. She wasn't really interested in making conversation or making friends anymore as I hoped she would. The staff were lovely, kind and caring and the care was good and very adequate for Mum's needs in the few months that she was here. Mum passed away peacefully on March 12th. Unfortunately, I was sent to the wrong address after I cleared mum's room to collect the death certificate which wasn't a problem but for others might be. The visiting opticians had wanted to charge me £300 for new glasses for Mum, which I wasn't pleased about either. It, however, has taken me nearly two months to get the refund we were due on the room.

Thank you for your review and your kind words which I will share with the team. It was a pleasure to have known both you and your mum. I am so sorry you were sent to the wrong address to collect the death certificate and I have shared this with the appropriate department. Also due to the COVID -19 pandemic with non-essential staff working from home, some processes are taking much longer to complete, so again I apologise for that and hopefully, soon we can all return back to normal.

My mum was cared for by the staff at St Jude's for just over a year and I can’t thank them enough as a family for all her care that she had and also and especially to looking after and caring for her sister, who also became a big part of mum's time there. We sadly lost mum in March peacefully and given
care and support during her last days. Including being allowed to have my dog with me in her room, so that I didn’t have to worry about going back and forth for him, I had the time that I needed to be with her at the end.
I cannot thank the staff enough for all that they did for us and for allowing us another year to have with mum and build up memories. She was quite unwell and they made her well enough again to have a special last year. That I can’t thank you enough for. St Jude's certainly gave life back to my mum. Now during this difficult time, my thoughts and wishes go out to all the staff and residents there and wish them all well. Thank You x

The rooms are well furnished and kept very clean and tidy. The food is well

Our mum was taken to St Jude's in March 2019. The staff were very warm and friendly. Our mum was in a very unsettled state and I have to praise the staff for there patients and loving care. I've worked in homes in my trade and this place smelt nice all the time. The food was very good and you could
have almost what you liked. The nurses on mums last few days of her life were fantastic. Thank you all so much.

I have been a resident here at St Jude's since early October 2019. Although I am only 55 years of age, I am at end of life stage, hence my residency here. Since my arrival, I have found it has become my home in all aspects. I and my family have been encouraged to treat my room as my home and have been
facilitated in every aspect of this, including having my son stay with me whenever he is in London. Staff and management are incredible.

My 93-year-old mother spent the last 6 weeks of her life being looked after by a team of kind, caring, professional members of this excellent nursing home. From the manager to the cleaner, all aspects of her care were well catered for and she was always treated with dignity, respect and was shown genuine
kindness and true friendship. I would definitely recommend this nursing home, especially with the current manager in place. She is an Irish gem and St Jude's is lucky to have her on board. Sadly, my mother is no longer with us but I have fond memories of her final days and take comfort in knowing that she was very happy and content and departed serenely thanks to the excellent care that she received during her short stay.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for St Jude's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.550 for St Jude's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (252 Excellents x 5) + (155 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 424 Ratings = 4.55
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Jude's Nursing Home is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
