Review from Janet P (Niece of Resident) published on 27 April 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My aunt was taken in by Sundridge in the middle of Covid in 2020 from a hospice. She was always treated with loving care and respect, always in contact with me as next of kin when necessary. The home went out of its way to arrange video calls for me to keep in touch when unable to travel down from Yorkshire. Through the chaos of the pandemic, I feel they always worked as hard as they could to manage my aunt’s care in the most difficult of circumstances. I deeply appreciate all the staff, from the administrator to the manager. My aunt was in Sundridge for nearly three years through to her death in March 2023. They gave me peace of mind and my aunt a sense of safety and security.

Overall Experience

My 91-year-old mother has been here since the end of January 2023, having arrived in quite a poorly state from the hospital. We have nothing but praise for the home - the staff are wonderful, kind and caring and very competent in their roles, be they the manager, admin, nursing or care teams; they all seem to have genuine care and interest in all the residents and making their time there as beneficial and fruitful as possible. We have excellent channels of communication, and nothing is too much trouble for us to discuss as relatives. We are so glad we chose this nursing home for Mum. It is well decorated, and the rooms are very pleasant, with a lovely garden. We like the fact that it is quite small and feels more like ‘home’, cosy and warm.

The staff here are exceptionally kind and caring and provided excellent care to my mother for the last eighteen months of her life. She was always treated with dignity and respect and she felt happy and safe. I felt very confident that she was valued as an individual. I would recommend it unreservedly. The family always felt welcome whenever we visited and included in the many events for residents.

My friend has "blossomed" since she has been in your care. Staff have gone the extra mile for her, and it s very touching.

We attended the garden party and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. All the staff on and off duty couldn't do enough for us.

Sundridge is a small nursing home where the staff really care about their residents. They go out of their way to provide highly professional and compassionate ongoing and end-of-life care. Their communications were clear and sensitive, especially from the nursing staff. They did everything to make my husband's time in the nursing home easier for him and the last weeks as peaceful as possible. I cannot fault their kindness; thank you for everything you did.

My mother has been a resident for a few months now, and although she has found the transition from home to Sundridge Court hard, the staff have been attentive, encouraging and kind. It is a great relief to her family to know that the care is of such a high standard and that we can go back to being daughters and not carers.

First visit to see a friend. Staff were friendly and welcoming. They were really helpful, and we saw our friend in the garden, which was lovely. We were also offered refreshments, which were very welcome. The home looked clean and tidy and well run. The staff helped my friend in her wheelchair and were excellent. Did not visit her room, so could not comment, but the home looks efficient. I only wish my mum, who was in a home, went into this one.

I went into this care home recently, and I was very impressed with everything about it. The staff were very welcoming and polite, and I could see that all the residents were happy. I personally went to see a friend who was very happy about being there, and I could see that she was so much better than when I last saw her, so I think the staff are doing a fine job.

The staff are a real gem. The staff are warm and friendly and take concerns over care plans seriously. A small home too, so the staff know all the patient's likes and dislikes, etc. The facilities could do with a little refresh, but a very minor criticism.

My father spent 14 months as a resident at Sundridge Court. His care was always professional and compassionate. Our family visits were always welcomed, and honest feedback about dad's well-being was honestly given. Sadly Dad finally had to give in to his condition and passed away. His final hours were painless, peaceful and dignified. Staff were very supportive during a very difficult time.

My father was at Sundridge Court for six months. During that time, he was looked after very well. The staff were always friendly and caring, and his room was comfortable. In the last few weeks of his life, the nursing staff were professional and compassionate. Because of Covid restrictions, it was more difficult, but everyone went out of their way to allow me to spend time with my father in the last few days, but I am particularly appreciative that a nurse was with him at the end, giving him comfort.

Always a friendly welcome and a warm, safe environment for the residents. Myself and my two sisters could always visit at any time, until, sadly, Covid-19 struck, and we were restricted severely. However, we were still accommodated whenever we were allowed. My mother was at Sundridge Court for almost three and a half years and was treated kindly and with respect by all the staff during her stay.

Staff are always very friendly, welcoming and informative, keeping us up to date with how Mum is. We know if we have any queries, that they will be answered. All staff are approachable. We feel fully supported as a family, and as our Mum's health is deteriorating, we feel safe in the knowledge that Mum is being cared for so well by such lovely staff, who know her well.

Overall, the care is good, as is the food. Sadly I've had very little sleep due to some of the other residents having server dementia and shout and scream constantly at night, not their fault, of course, but haven't slept well since the start of June when I came to Sundridge. I wasn't aware of the dementia aspect. I was hurried out of the hospital to clear the bed, so Sundridge Court was a shock to the system, between screaming and loud alarms going off.

Theresa Afodume
Theresa AfodumeJob Title:Home Manager

I originally trained as a midwife which was my passion for 7 years. Since then I have spent almost three decades working as a staff nurse and building up my experience in the care industry. I began work at Sundridge Court as a Nurse, working my way up to Deputy Manager and now Home Manager which I am very proud of.

I take the role of caring for our residents and ensuring that their needs are met very seriously. Making sure our care team are happy and fully trained in order to offer a safe and happy home is a priority. I really enjoy interacting with the residents and their relatives and friends on a daily basis, listening to the stories that residents have to tell and making sure they are they are included in their care plans.

Over the last few years I am proud to have been involved in building Sundridge Court to be the warm and caring home it is now with the help of my colleagues, ensuring it is a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led home.
