Located near the centre of Reading, Beacher Hall offers 24-hour nursing care and support for those 18 and over with a range of needs.

That includes those living with complex needs and neurological conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis, respiratory conditions, Parkinson’s and acquired brain injuries. The home offers both long-term, short-stay and rehabilitation care.

A converted listed building, Beacher Hall offers a relaxing environment that is well equipped for a range of individual care needs.

There’s always a bustling atmosphere, with plenty for residents to get involved in. There is a physiotherapy gym – great for slow stream rehabilitation and preventing secondary complications – large landscaped gardens and an inviting lounge. These are open to all, whether they’re staying long-term or for a few months.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities as well as a TV and telephone point. Comfortable communal areas and lounges, as well as the attractive landscaped gardens, provide the ideal setting where residents can socialise and relax with friends and family.

The home goes to great effort to ensure mealtimes are satisfying and enjoyable, aiming for a balanced and nutritious diet that also accounts for personal taste.

Sensory art classes and music therapy are part of a thriving activities programme, and regular trips and outings are organised allowing residents to get out and enjoy community life or visit the cinema.

My mother has been a resident for a few months now and has had the best time ever. She loves the activities and parties and is always saying how good the care is. Whenever I visit the welcome is always incredible and the home is always lively and welcoming.

My 93-year-old mother was at Beacher Hall for two years until her recent death. She has previously had a difficult time at another nursing home, but the staff at Beacher Hall properly engaged with her and resolved many of her problems. During her residence there, I was impressed at the care and compassion
the staff showed towards her. The restrictions over Covid have been difficult, but my Mother's welfare was at the forefront of any decision made over this difficult time. I have no hesitation in recommending this nursing home to friends.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Beacher Hall Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It is always so lovely to hear that our staff genuinely do care with such compassion. We are happy to know that your Mum's previous issues have now all been resolved in our care. Thank you for your recommendation.

My husband's stay was a short one. He was very poorly after a long spell in hospital and Beacher Hall was the best place for him. He received 1st class nursing care 24 hours by very caring nurses and care workers. They interacted with him (he was non-verbal) and nothing was too much trouble. He had
lots of complex needs and they treated him with compassion and dignity. He died at Beacher Hall peacefully and this is how we wanted it to be.

Made to feel welcome. Staff helpful, friendly. Our daughter has cerebral palsy, with quadruple spasticity, is a permanent wheelchair user and needs help 24/7. She can speak in her words, 'it is like my second home' and she is able to take part in everything. Thanks to the wonderful staff, she can't
wait to go back.

My husband lived at Beacher Hall for 2 and a half years before moving home last week. We could not have found a better care home for him. The management are kind, supportive, efficient and enabling, the Reception Team give a great welcome one and all, the Nurses are experienced, thoughtful, kind and
compassionate. The Carers are always laughing and smiling, helpful and thorough. Housekeeping provides clean, well-ironed laundry and keeps Beacher Hall sparkling and orderly along with the Maintenance team. Everyone makes time to say hello and the place feels like home. The food is greatly enjoyed by the residents who aren’t peg fed. The Activities team plan entertainments morning and afternoon, 1-2-1 and outings. Physio was a key department for us. They are utterly brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble or effort and they work wonders with the residents’ rehab. We really felt that Beacher Hall was our home. Also, it never smelt like a care home! We are so very grateful to all who have given their time and care to us.

My daughter has lived happily at Beacher Hall for three years. I visit her about three times per week apart from rare visits to my son who lives in France.
My daughter's three adult children visit her - work and time permitting, usually every other month.
We are all very pleased with the care and
kindness shown by the staff towards my daughter and also to us, whenever we visit and I cannot thank them enough.

Amazing home.
I had heard of Beacher Hall via the local hospital who recommended it. From what they were saying, I had very high expectations and I wasn't disappointed!
Everything in the home is better than you could have expected and the care provided is outstanding.

My family member was shown outstanding care from the whole home.
The Nurses are always really helpful, and always smiling. the care staff know all of the residents really well and treat them like family.
The food is delicious and plenty of it, I was encouraged to have lunch with my relative whenever
I wanted and always loved the food.
The Physiotherapy team work miracles in their gym, I think they are amazing and a jewel in the home's crown.
The activities are always fun, and everyone is encouraged to join in. for those unable to, they do 1:1 time with them and an activity of their choice which was lovely to see.
the home is always clean and tidy, with the staff spending time to make it look as good as possible.
the home manager and deputy are lovely, really approachable and will make time to talk about any issues you have.
I couldn't recommend the home highly enough.

I stayed at Beacher Hall for just over a week's convalescence following major coronary surgery. The staff were attentive and friendly. The place was clean and warm. Wholesome meals were provided and laundry was willingly done. There were no restrictions on visitors, for which there is a nice large lounge.

My son received excellent care and support from this nursing home for approximately 5 months. The residents are kept clean and well fed and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The residents are closely watched through the night and attention is immediate if there is a problem. The medical care
was superb and the staff were extremely efficient but also compassionate which is so important. Entertainment is laid on daily and residents were taken out of their rooms regularly to interact with the other residents. Beacher Hall is definitely a home from home and I would recommend it to everyone. My son died in March 2018 and I am so impressed with what they do at Beacher Hall I'm hoping to go up once a week (I live 60 miles away) to help in any way that I can due to staff shortages.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.856)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.856) out of 10 for Beacher Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.881 for Beacher Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 218 Ratings = 4.881
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beacher Hall Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Senior Activity Coordinator Joined: 2002

I have been working at Beacher Hall for the last fifteen years in different departments and I’ve made many friends over the years with people I work with and look after.

I joined the Activities team seven years ago and currently I’m a lead activity coordinator. I feel passionate about what I do and especially the ability to positively change and enhance residents lives here at Beacher Hall.

Every day is different and brings new challenges but accomplishing these challenges makes it a rewarding experience for my team, my colleagues and most importantly the residents.

I love being there for our residents on a daily basis and being able to help them experience exciting and fulfilling moments of their lives. Nothing compares to seeing the joy and pure happiness in residents eyes when you know what you do matters so much to them.

We are all like family here and that is what makes Beacher Hall and its people a unity and a great place to be.
