Located near the centre of Reading, Beacher Hall offers 24-hour nursing care and support for those 18 and over with a range of needs.

That includes those living with complex needs and neurological conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis, respiratory conditions, Parkinson’s and acquired brain injuries. The home offers both long-term, short-stay and rehabilitation care.

A converted listed building, Beacher Hall offers a relaxing environment that is well equipped for a range of individual care needs.

There’s always a bustling atmosphere, with plenty for residents to get involved in. There is a physiotherapy gym – great for slow stream rehabilitation and preventing secondary complications – large landscaped gardens and an inviting lounge. These are open to all, whether they’re staying long-term or for a few months.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities as well as a TV and telephone point. Comfortable communal areas and lounges, as well as the attractive landscaped gardens, provide the ideal setting where residents can socialise and relax with friends and family.

The home goes to great effort to ensure mealtimes are satisfying and enjoyable, aiming for a balanced and nutritious diet that also accounts for personal taste.

Sensory art classes and music therapy are part of a thriving activities programme, and regular trips and outings are organised allowing residents to get out and enjoy community life or visit the cinema.

The care could not have been better. My dad was washed and changed right up to the end. He was treated with dignity and respect. He was checked on very regularly to see if he wanted anything, was comfortable or in pain.
The room was kept to a high standard and was comfortable to be in.
The care manager
and senior nurse we dealt with couldn't be more helpful. The staff were all superb. Care was definitely part of their make up.

My brother entered Beachers Hall in August 2016. He had Parkinsons disease and learning difficulties. He died sadly in January 2017 but the time he spent with Beachers transformed his life. He was well cared for, his room personal hygiene was second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for the home.
They have consistent staffing levels and lots of them have been with Beachers for many many years. My brother enjoyed the activities which are on every day and in particular bingo! The home are receptive to new ideas and accommodating of all of our requests. The home manager works tiredlessly in the background and her door is always open should you need her. Many other residents parents and carers are around and you geninuinly get a warm caring feel of the place. During the last few days of my brother's life, the nurses and carers truely turned into Angels and they showed dignity and respect to both my brother and his family and we will never forget the kindness of Beachers Hall.

The nursing home is very helpful and supportive. The staff are looking after the residents properly and fulfilling their requirements. The nursing home is full of helpful staff and also with a super duper physiotherapist who helps with the residents on our improvements and rehabilitation. The physio
team dedicates their best for me and my needs. Without physio, I would not be able to recover like I am recovering now, all thanks to physio.

Beacher Hall is an excellent run care home and the care I am given is amazing from the care staff and activities team. The physio team works so hard to get us back on our feet and they are a dedicated team and we are very lucky to have them here working here with us. The kitchen staff give us wonderful
home made food which is to die for and when we have visitors to the home I always give them a glowing report about the home. I am very lucky to be here and to be looked after so well by every member of staff.

In all, it is a fabulous care home to be in.

I would like to say that they (the staff) provide the ultimate in service. I'm always treated with the utmost respect. I'm particularly fond of my physiotherapy team. They work very well together as a team. Thanks particularly to a certain few. The physio team fill me with motivation and they do a tremendous
amount work for everyone here. The home is a happy place which I'm proud to be a resident of and a member of the resident's committee. I've made a lot of good friends here. It's truly a wonderful place to be. The staff always respect my privacy and my mood swings. They make me laugh and bring happiness to my life. Also I would like to mention the Activities team for making my life happy and vibrant.
Overall I'm impressed with the service and I recommend it to anyone who's physical needs require such a place.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.887)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.887) out of 10 for Beacher Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.887 for Beacher Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 231 Ratings = 4.887
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beacher Hall Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Senior Activity Coordinator Joined: 2002

I have been working at Beacher Hall for the last fifteen years in different departments and I’ve made many friends over the years with people I work with and look after.

I joined the Activities team seven years ago and currently I’m a lead activity coordinator. I feel passionate about what I do and especially the ability to positively change and enhance residents lives here at Beacher Hall.

Every day is different and brings new challenges but accomplishing these challenges makes it a rewarding experience for my team, my colleagues and most importantly the residents.

I love being there for our residents on a daily basis and being able to help them experience exciting and fulfilling moments of their lives. Nothing compares to seeing the joy and pure happiness in residents eyes when you know what you do matters so much to them.

We are all like family here and that is what makes Beacher Hall and its people a unity and a great place to be.
