On the whole, the staff are very helpful and considerate. They treat the residents and visitors with respect and dignity. At times, the residents have to wait longer than they would like to get the help they need.

Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Argyles Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you find our staff to be helpful and considerate. We will certainly pass your comments about the wait time on to the management team as we strive to continually improve the service we provide.

Very caring staff, friendly and warming. Clean. Medical care on hand and make my Auntie feel safe.

It would be easier if the home would provide travel to hospital at no extra cost as the amount of money they pay a month should include this service.

My Dad has been in this care home for 2 years now. He has been very happy here and although he chooses not to participate in most events he knows there is plenty to occupy himself if he wants to. He appreciates the ability to be left to think for himself and not be pressured into an option that is not really for him. I can sleep far easier knowing he is excellently cared for and he admits he wants for nothing. Staff make him feel special and he loves the banter.

He loves to go to the reception area where people pass through, that it doesn't commit him to long conversations, he can people watch and the lovely receptionist Bryony treats him to a special coffee.

My mother and father both moved into Argyles this year and have settled in nicely.

All the staff at the home are very attentive, polite to the residents. I travel a long distance to see my parents, and I am always allowed to eat with them. This provides a great space and opportunity to catch up.

Mum stayed at Argyles for 3 months before she passed peacefully in her sleep. The palliative care was excellent. Management and staff were so helpful, kind and friendly to Mum. Although Mum didn't eat very much, the food choices offered were good and she always enjoyed the puddings! It was nice that there was no restrictions on visitors as one of her youngest great grandchildren visited every Friday much to Mum's delight. The family celebrated a lovely Mothers Day with Mum in her room and we were very kindly offered lunch with her which was a very nice gesture and lovely food. An occasion which we will always treasure. A shout out must go to the 'tea' lady who always offered us a cup of tea, even if we arrived late to visit Mum. It was very much appreciated. Clearing Mums room after she had passed was hard, but everyone was so kind to myself and my sister, so thank you for making it a litttle easier.

We would definately recommend the home, the care of their residents is excellent.

Dad stayed at the home for palliative care for over 2 months and died there. most staff seemed amazing. but communication was rather poor in relation to me providing feedback to the home, the manager only reacted to the feedback rather than proactively meeting the family sooner. received a call saying my dad passed away , 'now i will pass you over to someone else as it's the end of my shift,' which is not professional. was then asked if we wanted to see my dad. this could have been discussed with us before hand. feel the home could do a lot more to involve families in their patient's care. felt under pressure to see my dad on the day of his death.

Review from S W (Sister of Resident) published on 11 February 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My sister was provided with palliative care at the Argyles from April to August 2024, this was a very difficult time for my sister and our family but we are extremely grateful for the genuine support, kindness, care and friendship the whole team provided. At the most difficult times, the team helped us mark and celebrate family events, supported us in making precious memories and they spent quality time with my sister showing her love, friendship, having fun and laughs alongside managing her declining health, complex needs and medication meaning that despite being bed bound and having limited communication, the Argyles team found ways to be there for my sister and to make her time at Argyles as comfortable as possible and to make her smile. A big thank you to the Argyles team/family.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that the staff at the car home are always polite and friendly. My mum seems happy which makes me happy. I went to an event there for Bupa's 40th birthday, they had a singer come in and I thought it was fantastic, well organised and the buffet afterwards was fantastic too. I think the chefs do an amazing job.

I was admitted following emergency surgery. However, there was no room available. The management and maintenance staff arranged for an activities room to be cleared and arranged into a bedroom within 36 hours of the request for care. Although my wife has been a resident since October 2021 and I am well known here, I was treated with the same care, dignity, and friendship as the other residents. Where the layout, decor, and facilities may not be the most modern, the staff make all the difference and do their best to meet resident's needs. The main dishes are very good but the range/variety of vegetables and evening desserts is limited. It is not what we have in life but who we have in life that matters.

What great fun we had at BUPA Fest Argyles, the residents were helped outside or into the dining room to enjoy lovely food and outside entertainment. The weather was good and the staff worked very hard arranging everything and even joining in as 'pretend' band members.

An enjoyable day and already looking forward to the next event.

Went with Dad and a group of residents to see a brass band in the local park this Sunday. It was arranged by the home. We had perfect weather. It was great to meet some of the residents and their family members. It was good to hear some of the resident's families talk to my dad and let him pet their dogs when they visit. All very well organised by the home. They provided a delicious picnic for us all.

A well-earned cup of tea was offered to all when we got back to the home. Dad loved it!
