Nestled in the leafy village of Stockcross, Bayford House offers personalised care packages which include residential, respite, nursing, palliative and Parkinson’s care. The home also has independent living suites for those in need of extra support or recovering from surgery.

Originally a private residence, Bayford House is set within large landscaped gardens and has been extensively modernised and refurbished to provide a high standard of accommodation and care. High ceilings and period features can be enjoyed throughout the home and residents can feel relaxed and comfortable in the spacious communal rooms and lounge areas. Most bedrooms have en-suite facilities and all are tastefully furnished and decorated.

Residents can stay for two weeks, a month or longer– however long residents or loved ones needs support. They’ll get to relax and meet new friends, giving families complete peace of mind. The home has a dedicated respite room that can be booked up to three months in advance, staff are happy to accept last-minute requests too.

The independent living suites are spacious bedrooms with lounge areas, situated within Newdale Court, a part of the home that supports assisted living. There is an on-site salon, large lounge and cinema room, as well as a dining room complete with hostess service.

Individual dietary preferences form the basis of the in-house chef’s daily menu, with homemade meals and lighter alternatives available.

Arts and crafts and reminiscence sessions are examples of the many activities available for residents, as are gentle gardening and sing-a-longs. Regular church services and a visit from a mobile library are also available.

Early days. The care staff and nurses are amazing, nothing but positives to say. The room is quite small, but comfortable. Bathroom is difficult to get around with zimmer. Storage places are out of reach. All in all good.

Since July when my husband moved to Bayford, he has settled so well, enjoys the company- and the food!
Everyone is so kind and caring. Although I had reservations about leaving him I am amazed at just how he fits in with all the activities.
Never hear of any complaints. I know he is safe and well
cared for.
A big thank you to all the staff - every one of them is always cheerful and ready for a chat with him - they make all the residents feel special.

If you are wanting peace of mind that your loved one will receive personal care tailored to their needs and wishes then cross Newdale Court off your list of choices. Claims that personalised care and support is available 24 hours a day are very misleading. The care provided is very basic and often rushed.
My relative regularly had to wait for very lengthy periods of time to receive help including to be taken to the toilet and was told by staff not to ask for help between 11pm and 4am. Many staff do not display their 'skill and experience', failing to take action on various health issues even when prompted to do so by family. Accessible information was not provided, special dietary requirements ignored, eating aids and assistance with cutting up food were repeatedly forgotten. Very few staff show that they take pride in their work and senior management were disinterested and in denial about failings of care in the home.

Over the last year the level of care received has significantly declined. Residents are treated as tasks and not individuals by the carers, there is no person centred approach to care. Care is very basic and provided when convenient, rather than when needed. Carers are not proactive and fail to notice
or act when signs of infection are clearly present, despite residents and family raising issues, with residents requiring hospital admission as a result. More staff are clearly needed. Carers also need more training and support from management. Management are in denial of the issues, uninterested, defensive and lack compassion when concerns/complaints are raised.

Definitely a 'look before you leap" place. Be very cautious. If your relative is at all partially sighted or deaf or immobile or slower in their thinking these days or just that bit different or even neuro diverse or at all challenging on a bad day or when ill then it cannot be recommended, it really
cannot. This is based upon three years experience of Newdale Court at Bayford Care Home (the residential element) with my two dear parents. We leave today for better pastures.
Good luck in your search for care.

My husband has settled in well and has a good interaction with the staff. The try and engage with him which isn't always easy. I know the food is excellent and he enjoys his meals. However, in view of his medical condition, he should be encouraged to drink more water so that he doesn't become dehydrated
as this can cause him to become confused.

The carers at Bayford House Care Home are extremely kind, polite and gentle and always try their best to assist. While the building is quite tired, e.g. dining room is quite small and dark and could do with brightening up, the carers and support staff always do their best to make things cheerful with
conversation and events.
One concern is around the management of transitioning new groups or individual carers that come in. If a resident's bed is made or set up in a certain way or a chair requires support and a certain set-up for access, new staff do not always get properly trained on each individual room and it means the resident can have a few weeks of Kelly very unsettled with things not in place, e.g. cushions missing, not enough sheets, table out of reach - maybe a list in each room of how things should be set would help, particularly as not all residents can articulate how they have things done if their speech is impaired.
For medical assistance and support, the nurse and care team do an amazing job in really difficult times where accessing doctors, district nurses and other specialist nurses is not easy.
Reply from Maria Ricketts, Customer Care Adviser at Bayford House Care HomeWe appreciate you taking the time to leave us your feedback and we will certainly pass your comments on to the manager, as our resident's health and well-being are an absolute priority and we would like to make sure this matter is resolved. Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.196)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.196) out of 10 for Bayford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.196 for Bayford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (261 Excellents x 5) + (144 Goods x 4) + (52 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (36 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 495 Ratings = 4.196
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bayford House Care Home is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been at Bayford House/Newdale Court for twenty five years. I am Newdale’s Activity Coordinator and I have three children; two boys and one girl and seven grandchildren - I even bring them in to work sometimes as they love to talk to the residents.

People often say that I should have retired by now but I class this as my second home and love all my residents.

When I lost my husband, everybody here was so supportive. My favourite time of year is Christmas when I put up all the decorations in the home, which the residents and families enjoy.

If I can go home at night and know I have made one of my residents smile that is a great feeling.

Job Title: Finance Administrator Joined: 2008

I am originally from Greater Manchester where I worked for Dairy Crest since leaving school until I joined Bupa in June 2008. Firstly as an administrator at The Donnington, where I worked for four years until I had the opportunity to move to Thatcham Court, which is a larger home, in June 2012, this presented additional scope for broadening my experience.

I embraced the challenge of working in a new care home environment, as Thatcham Court is a dementia home, and this presented new aspects to the job and also included a wider range of duties. After working in a dementia home for nine months I felt I would prefer to focus my skills in a non-dementia home, which is when I came to Bayford House in May 2013.
