We all feel as a family that Mum is very well cared for. All staff are very friendly and supportive. Even when Mum can have her difficult moments they handle her very nicely. They have a good choice of food and plenty of cake.

Our family member is very happy where she is at Larkland. The staff are very caring & they look after he with dignity & tolerance as she is inconpacitated & blind. We are very happy that she is here & being cared for. As she was a nurse all her working life so she understands the difficulty of the job they have in care homes.

Thank you all for your expertise.

Reassuring to know my Father is being looked after and cared for in a professional way. Staff are supportive, caring and attentive. Nothing is too much. Larkland's activities are varied and engaging, although Father does not want to join in and is not forced either. Compliments to the Chef, the team and the delicious menus. Overall, if my Father is comfortable and happy, so am I. As a family, we visit often and at different times of the day. We are pleased with the care Father receives and the welcome we get. Important we see teamwork and communication and both are evident.

Larkland is a 'home from home' as I was unable to care for my husband who has mixed dementia & partial sight. I visit every day & am happy with his care especially as he can be difficult at times. Some carers are very young & in experienced so the long hours are tiring, therefore, perhaps more time should be spent talking to residents' in slacker times during the day.

Our mum has lived in Larkland House for over a year now and we would not want her to be anywhere else. She is obviously very fond of the staff team, as they are of her. I don't worry about her now in the way I did when she was at home with carers. I know the team take care of her and we can enjoy our time visiting mum in a safe and caring environment. Any questions are answered, any concerns are addressed and we also appreciate the care of the nursing team as mum's needs increase. We love our mum hugely and feel she is happy and well cared for at Larkland, that's all we could hope for.

Overall Experience
My wife has been in Larkland House with advanced dementia for more than two years, and I have been very happy with the care she has received.
I looked at four care homes before deciding on Larkland House. I ran a residence for nearly 200 university students in Kensington for 10 years of my life. Students are young whereas Larkland residents are old, but the management principles are the same. I think I can see a good place when I find one.
The leadership and administrative teams at Larkland are both very good; the senior staff are always friendly and helpful. As for the nursing team, Larkland has no contract staff; the care team is hand-picked, and it shows! Relationships within the team seem to be excellent. There is lots of healthy laughter, which is always a good sign! And I would especially like to commend the chefs, because the food is very good - probably the best institutional food I have come across.

Overall, I am very pleased that I chose Larkland House for my wife.

My mother Ena was admitted for respite and medical conditions to the care home on 24/11 for two weeks to have constant care for a bed sore. The staff was very helpful and caring and went the extra mile with mums food requirements when she didn't fancy what was on the menu. The care that she was shown was excellent, every member of staff she had attending her was so caring and attentive to her needs.

Nan was a resident at Larklands after being discharged from hospital. From the time she arrived until she passed away a few weeks later, the team of nurses, carers and support workers went above and beyond what was expected in how they cared for her and made her comfortable. They treated her like family, and also worked so hard making us welcome whenever we visited. The final weeks of her life were made easier and more comfortable due to the efforts of all staff

My husband returned to Larklands for 12 days respite care for a second visit, he settled quickly and happily. His room was bright and he enjoyed watching the birds in the trees.

His care staff were friendly, kind and caring. He has said that he enjoyed his holiday and would like to return for another stay.

The staff are amazing, They really look after the patients in their care
The building is kept very clean, Plus the food is tasty and plentiful and if the patient does not like the what is on the menu.
Then the kitchen make up something which the patient has requested.

Every body aims to please the patient what ever there need.

Thank you for the amazing care you have provided for our mum. Although it's been a very sad and emotional time for us as a family, you have been amazing from the day she was admitted to the home, to the very sad end. Not only did you take great care of Mum, but you also looked after all of us as a family which is gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

When I went to view Larkland House, I was told by a staff member that they were understaffed.
The medication was never on time, I had to chase multiple times a day. The alarm cord was disconnected, after it was connected while I was there. The room never seemed to get cleaned. Staff never regularly checked on my relative. If emergency button was pressed, it could take over 5 minutes for a response. My relative passed and I was told I could take my time with them, I was later called into the hall and told I needed to arrange the funeral directors to come and collect my relative. When they were taking my relative away, I was being stared at by another visitor from their room. Disrespectful!
The caregivers are very friendly, but unable to carry out their duties effectively as they are all understaffed.

I would not recommend this facility.

I moved my mother to Larkland in July 2023 and it was the best thing for her after very poor care in her previous home.
I found the staff to be nothing short of superb with a very friendly happy go happy-go-lucky attitude and I have seen nothing but respect and love for all the residents including my mother.

Sadly, my mother just passed away, but I would recommend this home to anybody.

My mother has been supported to go from bed-bound and socially isolated to joining her neighbours in the communal Lounge/Dining room for lunch and activities, which she has appeared to enjoy.
Carers are kind, attentive and knowledgeable. They have developed an understanding of my mother's preferences, discomforts and behaviours during the short time she has been with them.

I have seen my mother become much more alert and recover her interest in her immediate surroundings. I have been delighted to witness a return of some of her cognitive skills that I thought had been irretrievably lost due to her condition. She is also gaining a little of the weight she had lost in recent times. I believe that the quality of care, attention and humanity that my mother is receiving from the care staff at Larkland House is making this progress from a dramatic decline possible.

Kate Bull
Kate BullJob Title Home Manager

Hi, I’m Kate. I joined Care UK nearly 10 years ago as a nurse and have since progressed from Registered Nurse to Deputy Manager – Clinical and now Home Manager at Larkland House. I’m a Registered Nurse (RGN) and have completed NVQ Level 5, Best Interest Assessor (BIA) training and the Future Home Manager Programme, alongside ongoing leadership, clinical and care training.

I have always been passionate about caring for older people and wanted to work somewhere where residents are treated as individuals and can feel safe, respected and at home. I’m proud of the opportunities Care UK has given me to develop and grow throughout my career.

I believe a Home Manager needs to be caring, approachable and passionate, with good communication skills and the ability to lead by example. Supporting and empowering colleagues to develop their skills and confidence is also very important to me.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with residents and the team. I love seeing residents happy and comfortable and working together with colleagues, relatives, friends and the local community to make Larkland a welcoming place to live and work.

One of my biggest career highlights has been progressing from a nurse to Home Manager at Larkland House. Having been part of the home for nearly 10 years, I’m proud to continue my journey here with residents and colleagues who mean so much to me.

Outside of work, family is the most important thing to me. I enjoy spending quality time with my family and making memories together.
