Grandad moved to the care home back in December 2023, at first we had apprehension as he had lived well at home. He settled in almost straightaway putting our minds at rest. A big shout out to every staff member at the home as they go above and beyond daily.

Fantastic care home, the staff really care about their residents and my mother looks and reacts better every day. They have even managed to heal her ulcers which she has had for over 10 years. Thank you.

My father was cared for at Larkland House following a diagnosis of terminal cancer. I was so grateful to all the staff we met who really cared for him, made him comfortable and took time to get to know him. I was impressed by the level of expertise and care, with very thorough systems in place to ensure 24-hour care and a good range of facilities (including nice food and a lifestyle coordinator). It is a very comfortable home and I would think about staying there myself when the time comes!

I must say the level of care my mother receives is second to none, the team always bend over backwards to see my mother's needs are met. The home is spotless the whole housekeeping team work so hard to make sure everything is in order. The activity team have a relationship with all the residents they create a family community. What I’ve seen of the food is excellent, and the catering brigade is led by an excellent head chef.

If you're looking for a top-quality care home, then look no further. This home offers a nice bedroom, with a wet room, to the most delicious food throughout the day. Many occasions we would have a meal or a snack when visiting our aunty.

There are so many more staff that do an outstanding job. Every visit, my aunt would be involved in some sort of activity or event, always with a smile on her face.

Overall Experience
My wife has Parkinsons and Parkinsons dementure and can be a difficult person to deal with and consequently has 24hr 1 to 1 care. Her life in Larkland has greatly improved since she has had the same 1 to 1 carers for the majority of the week. They have learnt how to manage her moods and deal with her agitation which is no mean feat! All the staff are friendly and understanding.
It is very important that Parkinsons patients are given their medication on time and for whatever reason there are times when this does not happen. I also believe that it is wrong that the Parkinsons Nurse only reviews the effectiveness of the medication every 6 months. Any changes to my wife's medication have only occurred after I contacted the Parkinsons Nurse and made recommendations.
My wife has only a few teeth left and finds that she is unable to eat a significant number of the meals and the food gets sent back uneaten. She cant chew chicken.

Social events are good and well organised.

My wife's care is ok but some staff need more training. She needs more going to more music and animal. I have to check to make sure she has her own clothes on. Things are corrected when speaking to the manager I should not have to do this if the staff had done their job.

My Mum was lucky enough to be offered a place at Larkland House in December 2022. We were obviously anxious with her moving into a nursing home. The manager gave us a personal tour of the care home answering all our questions as we went round. This was so reassuring that Larkland was the right place for Mum.
Mum has dementia and her moods can be temperamental but the carers deal with this in a professional and caring way.
All the staff are friendly not just to the residents but to their family and friends. The atmosphere is always a place of happiness.
Rooms are a good size with great walk in showers.
Food - the choice is amazing. We have been lucky to have lunch with Mum on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday and if we had gone to a 5 star restaurant the food would not of been any better.
Entertainment is always made to be fun and to keep the residents stimulated.
Staff/carers - always so kind and caring.
Overall I give Larkland House 10/10 or 5 stars.

Thank you for looking after my Mum.

Overall Experience

Our cousin has been looked after at Larkland House for the past year. It was recommended to us by a close friend whose father also stayed there for a while. The whole team are kind, friendly and treat him with great patience and respect and do their best to make sure he is as happy as he can be. We have not given a rating for Activities because our cousin prefers not to participate but we know they are a regular feature for the other residents.

Meet the Team (1)

Kate Bull
Kate BullJob Title Home Manager

Hi, I’m Kate. I joined Care UK nearly 10 years ago as a nurse and have since progressed from Registered Nurse to Deputy Manager – Clinical and now Home Manager at Larkland House. I’m a Registered Nurse (RGN) and have completed NVQ Level 5, Best Interest Assessor (BIA) training and the Future Home Manager Programme, alongside ongoing leadership, clinical and care training.

I have always been passionate about caring for older people and wanted to work somewhere where residents are treated as individuals and can feel safe, respected and at home. I’m proud of the opportunities Care UK has given me to develop and grow throughout my career.

I believe a Home Manager needs to be caring, approachable and passionate, with good communication skills and the ability to lead by example. Supporting and empowering colleagues to develop their skills and confidence is also very important to me.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with residents and the team. I love seeing residents happy and comfortable and working together with colleagues, relatives, friends and the local community to make Larkland a welcoming place to live and work.

One of my biggest career highlights has been progressing from a nurse to Home Manager at Larkland House. Having been part of the home for nearly 10 years, I’m proud to continue my journey here with residents and colleagues who mean so much to me.

Outside of work, family is the most important thing to me. I enjoy spending quality time with my family and making memories together.
