Written as the mother of my daughter receiving respite care.
I was very impressed by the care provided for my daughter. Staff were keen to understand and manage her needs. This approach worked well and she settled without great anxiety.
Equally, all of the staff were welcoming and helpful to me on my frequent visits.
Having had previous experience with respite care at a different home, this stay was refreshing and I feel positive about using Larchfield House again.

Re: Rating food and drink below in categories, I cannot assess as my daughter is peg-fed.

The team provided the most amazing 100th birthday party event for my husband's aunt. From the dressing of the room with balloons etc, the framing of the birthday card from Our King and Queen, the fabulous food including a splendid birthday cake to the production of a photographic video of the event was wonderful. And shall always be remembered- thank you.

Reply from Cliff Grand-Scrutton, Director/Registered Manager at Larchfield House

We had my mother moved to Larchfield House to be close to family. The home is clean and nicely decorated but its biggest strength is its staff. My mother can be difficult but she is always met with kindness and understanding. She likes all the staff and always greets them with a big smile.
The activities staff think of things that Mum understands and are relevant to her, i.e flower arranging. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday and, along with my sister, the activities leader and his team organised a party for Mum which included wonderful decorations, including a large balloon arch in the party room and a lavish cake in the shape of 100. The activities manager had even put together a presentation of people and events important to Mum during her life and background music of Mum’s favourite tunes.

Everyone at Mum’s party - many of whom have had loved ones in care homes - gave compliments about the helpfulness and kindness of all staff and the calm and homely atmosphere.

Larchfield has always been a very happy home for my sister-in-law. She lived there for just over 6 years! We saw the care home grow and they always wanted the best for the residences. They also always went over and above to help us and her! Friendly, caring staff always answered any questions we had. Kept us informed if any problems with my sister-in-law. Always very clean and all staff do an amazing job! All staff put your mind at rest and work really hard to make the residents feel like they are home! Thank you Larchfield would recommend Larchfield to everyone.

I would like to tell you about a day my family and I spent with our mum/nanny yesterday (June 4th 2023). I asked if we could have a family get-together in the garden with some refreshments. It was agreed that we could do this. We were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the layout of the tables and the refreshments. Totally unexpected! The staff who helped us have a great afternoon were brilliant. So extremely helpful. We just had to call them if we required any top-ups.

We were even allowed to take a couple of well-behaved dogs in with us, one of which was my mum's dog when she was living at home and is now being cared for by my brother.

Mum was overwhelmed by us all being there and she thoroughly enjoyed herself and she didn't go to sleep! A beautiful day had by all, sunshine, refreshments and great staff! Thank you so very much from all my mum's family.

My son has been in Larchfield House Care Home for the last sixteen months and has been receiving excellent care from the various members of staff on the unit who have made the effort to build a rapport with him. After a recent five-week stay in hospital with pneumonia, staff welcomed him back and he has made progress with his mobility, especially with walking. This is due to the "in-house" physiotherapist dedicated to getting him back on his feet - hospital discharge notes stated "bedbound"!

Reply from Rohan Patel, Business Manager at Larchfield House

Thank you for the review - and special thanks to our in-house physio working side by side with our clinical team to make this happen.

Lovely and caring staff. Amenities are kept clean and comfortable.
The cuisine is also of a high standard, bearing in mind my brother's declining condition, the staff ensure all food is cut up to enable him to swallow.

Up until the end of January, Larchfields Covid screening has also been good; I still, however, think this should continue.

My cousin with advanced dementia requiring 24 hour monitoring is cared for with the utmost compassion and dedication. I am always amazed by the patience shown by all staff and I am regularly telephoned if there is any change in condition, which is inevitable given the severity of her illness. I have confidence she has access to the best medical care when needed.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at Larchfield House for over a year. The staff are fabulous and treat her with respect and dignity. She has various issues and they deal with them in a very professional way and are extremely caring and patient with her. She is safe and well looked after and we feel secure in the knowledge that we can trust the wonderful team to look after her in our absence. I cannot fault the staff and the services that they offer and I cannot praise them highly enough. Thank you so much Larchfield House for taking such good care of her.

My father has been a resident for five months and he has settled in so well. He came from another care home and we have noticed a significant improvement in him since being there. The staff are all so friendly and caring and have really taken the time to get to know dad. They take very good care of him and he has had much fewer falls since being at Larchfield (he is high risk).

My dad has been in the care home for almost 6 years over the time we have built up a good relationship with the staff. Speaking on dads behalf as he doesn't have the capacity, the staff are lovely, kind and love the job they do. Dad is always kept clean dry and warm

My beautiful wife has been in Larchfield House since the 17th October 2015 until now. Her needs are extremely high. She cannot walk, talk, communicate feed herself or do anything. Her cognitive needs are extremely high. I have visited my wife practically every day since she’s been in Larchfield House, well at least 9 out of 10. Excluding the time of the Pandemic when visiting was restricted.

The care she has received from the first day has been fantastic and has never varied, it is still fantastic. I feel so grateful and privileged to have got my wife into Larchfield. I couldn’t fault it. There cannot be many more jobs more challenging than running a Care Home 24/7 and its needs, but all management and wonderful dedicated Carers do such a fantastic job. And this does not go unnoticed. Thank you so much to you all you are so appreciated.

My dad was previously in another care home but due to the deterioration of his dementia, they were unable to care for him. I am so grateful (beyond words) that Larchfield House has not only been able to take care of my dad they have managed his care as his condition continues to deteriorate. The staff are absolutely marvelous I cannot rate them highly enough. I would recommend Larchfield House - they go above and beyond in the care of my dad.

While we know lack of staff sometimes can effect everything, so far they have managed to be able to cope with the situations arising. All the staff seem to me are friendly and only too pleased to offer us a tea or coffee while bringing mum her tea and biscuits.
