The home is indeed beautiful and the grounds are lovely. However, as a family, we found it very difficult and sometimes impossible to reach my Stepmother. The phones remain unanswered and over the Christmas period were out of action as was the WiFi. This caused my elderly dad much frustration at trying
to reach his wife. We reported it regularly and it was always met with a lack of urgency. Visiting during Covid was chaotic and often unwelcoming.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Burnham LodgeThank you for your comments about Burnham Lodge. We regret the difficulties you and your dad experienced over the Christmas period in trying to reach your Stepmother. However, we were unable to risk assess or foresee a natural disaster as happened in this case when a storm brought down a tree onto our telephone and internet lines. We did issue several apologies and notices across our social media and network sites to tell everyone what had happened. Our Hartford Care senior managers became involved in trying to get communications restored over the Christmas period, and Burnham Lodge’s staff took personal steps to use their own mobile phones to keep emergency lines of communication open. We are really grateful to our maintenance team for resolving the situation as swiftly as possible.

My 87-year young mother was admitted after a short illness in hospital. Due to Covid-19 we have been unable to view or visit her in the home however the exceptional care and kindness they have shown to both my sister and I and our mother has been superb. They regularly call or FaceTime us, my mother
wasn’t eating so they kept checking to see what food they could tempt my mum to eat. We can drop treats off to her and they have shown such devotion and love to our mother in these very hard times. Our mother always looks well looked after and the staff always have a little laugh and giggle with us during our calls. They have helped reassure us both that our mother is in a very safe place - thank you all.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Burnham LodgeThank you so much for your lovely review of Burnham Lodge. Many thanks to all of you who cared for my mother following her stroke, she very much appreciated the room, lovely food and nursing care she received after spending a month in a local hospital! Special thanks to the deputy manager and the senior nurse who I spoke to several times, they always seemed
to have time to speak to me. Your kindness and care was exemplary and she is recovering now in her own home with a live-in carer. Hopefully, she will continue her recovery but if she were ever to need a care home visit again I shall certainly look to you to provide care for her again.
Very best regards.

We feel very fortunate that my mother is at Burnham Lodge. It is a lovely home, set in peaceful and beautiful grounds, and with incredible staff. My father and father-in-law were also residents and so we have the first-hand experience of how well the staff have looked after our parents' various and
progressive needs. The care, patience, kindness and humour shown by the staff is exemplary, which means we have had confidence, during the lockdown months when we couldn't visit, that Mum would continue to be well cared for. We can't begin to imagine how much more difficult the staff's work must have been with all the lockdown and Covid-19 challenges, but we do know, now that we have been able to visit Mum in the garden, that she is looking really well and happy. Well done to all the team and thank you.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Burnham LodgeThank you so much for your glowing review of Burnham Lodge. Dad was transferred here from the hospital for nursing care following a life-changing stroke. This was a temporary placement for assessment. The whole team were very caring for dad and helpful to us as his family in what were difficult times with covid restrictions. Dad has now been moved to a permanent
placement nearer to home. Had Burnham Lodge been closer, we would’ve been more than happy for him to have stayed there.
Thank you, Burnham Lodge, for all you did for Dad.

We have been delighted with Mum’s care at Burnham Lodge since she moved there directly from hospital in April. It has been an extremely challenging time with coronavirus restrictions, but all of the lovely staff have done everything possible for the residents and are always there to speak to about Mums
care. We know that Mum is in safe hands with 24-hour care and medical care at this worrying time, which is a huge relief. The home is beautiful and Mum has a beautiful, newly decorated room looking out onto the pretty gardens. As restrictions are relaxed we look forward to her enjoying many activities.
We are extremely happy and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.809)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.809) out of 10 for Burnham Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.809 for Burnham Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (242 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 267 Ratings = 4.809
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burnham Lodge is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My name is Daria, and I’ve had the privilege of working at Burnham Lodge Nursing Home for over two years. I’m excited to support Burnham Lodge as a Deputy Manager and continue growing in my career. I've been a nurse for eight years, throughout my career, I’ve worked extensively in the learning disability and dementia care sectors, which has fueled my passion for providing person-centred care.

I love bringing smiles to people’s faces through outstanding care, which keeps me motivated every day. I’m particularly passionate about dementia care and wanted to work for an organisation where ‘people matter’.

At Burnham Lodge, my positivity and enthusiasm are not only supported but encouraged, and that makes all the difference.

While some days can be challenging, I always find moments that remind me why I love working in care—whether it’s a resident’s smile, hearing their life stories, or sharing an emotional moment with a colleague.

I’m excited to continue developing in this rewarding field and make an even greater difference in the lives of those I care for.
