Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident at The Heights for over five years, and I would highly recommend the home, which provides a wonderful environment for residents. The team are caring and (now that Covid restrictions are being eased) the varied activities (provided by a dedicated team), which stimulate mental wellbeing and ensure sociable get-togethers, are being re-established. When visiting, I'm always aware of the friendliness of the staff and the comfort of the surroundings. All in all, an excellent home with easy access to the manager if I need to discuss anything.

Overall Experience

My mum came to live at The Heights three years ago. As a family, we were very apprehensive, but as we met the ambulance driver at the door who transported Mum, he said “well you won’t find a better home than this”. We were so relieved, and my goodness, he was so right. Mum sadly passed away in January, but she absolutely loved living at The Heights. The love and care everyone showed to Mum were exceptional. She loved joining in with the activities, especially the quiz. She adored the garden and befriended everyone, residents, carers, staff, nurses, they all became her family, especially during lockdown when we couldn’t see her so much. Our family can never thank them all enough for everything they did for our Mum, and we will never forget it. In fact, I have left strict instructions to my children that when the time comes, that’s where I’m going! Thank you to the whole team for everything.

Thank you so much for your review, Kim. Your comment is so wonderful to read, and I will be sure to pass them on to the manager and the team. Thanks again.

The Heights is a very welcoming place. All staff are so helpful, understanding, and nothing is too much trouble. Communications to my husband and myself are kept completely up to date. The atmosphere within the home is warm and inviting. My father has only been in the home for 15-months, and being in mid lockdown - staff always recognise me and my husband by name. A truly special home.

Thank you very much for your review, Linda. Communication is always key, and we are so happy your father feels welcome.

Outstanding does not go far enough to explain how wonderful this place is. My mum has vascular dementia, which means that her mood changes often. She has recently been very down and has needed more than the home could offer, although nothing is too much for them. As soon as my sister asked if there was anything we could do to help, the manager promptly arranged visits for us to cheer her up. He also arranged for her to listen to my prayer, which I had recorded for my church service and provided feedback letting us know she really enjoyed it. The Heights is as close to Heaven as it gets. This is where I want to be if ever I can't look after myself. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

My mother has been at The Heights for nearly three years and is in their nursing wing for her dementia. The Heights has a homely feel, and the staff are caring and loving towards the residents. The premises are clean and practical, and the standard of food and variation is good. A lot of effort is made to keep residents occupied and stimulated, and overall the home is well-organised and run. I especially like the consistency of staff members building relationships with residents as well as their families.

The first thing that impressed as you enter The Heights is the ambience, the warmth and the cheerful greetings from the staff - it has such a welcoming atmosphere. Often there will be 'bunting' to celebrate whatever occasion is around at that time. Often there will be residents enjoying an activity, maybe Bingo or carpet bowls or a quiz - or sometimes you are lucky - a sing-song. Without a doubt, the number one priority here is homeliness - the comfort and happiness of the residents. No wonder this nursing home has been awarded 'outstanding' twice.

My mother remains as settled as she can, given her dementia. I have seen her treated with utmost care and respect. The office service is excellent too. There is nothing that I could think of to improve the service. I know she will be well cared for despite it being sad that they are locked down at Christmas. Other relatives that I have spoken with share these sentiments too.

My mum and I had to make a decision with my dad that full-time nursing care would be the best for my dad and mum. The Heights have been amazing during these unprecedented times. The manager and all his staff are dedicated and caring. My dad has been here since August 2020, and he has settled very well and appears well looked after.

The staff in house three The Heights, Downley were exceptional, they treated our dad with such kindness, affection and dignity. To allow us to see him in his last few days during the lockdown meant so much. To be able to hold his hand and say goodbye, words cannot express what that meant. The staff were not only wonderful to dad but also to us. They were always cheerful and helpful, I can't say a bad word against them. The home was always clean and the food amazing.

It is never easy to give up your home but my Dad was ready to be looked after and I knew he felt comfortable from day one with the home. They have taken great care of my father both before the outbreak of Covid-19 and during the crisis. All the staff are willing to go the extra mile for their residents. The care he receives has been excellent. He is happier and busier as he likes to take part in activities and trips. His favourite activity is playing bingo and his favourite trips is to the Brighton beach. He loves the gardens.
“We always find a happy atmosphere whenever we walk in.”

I cannot express in words how grateful I am to The Heights care home management and staff and have no hesitation in recommending it highly.

My Mum was very poorly when she went into The Heights. Now she is very happy, chatty and she has been made very comfortable, all due to the exemplary care and attention of all the staff. Mum can't do anything for herself and relies on the staff for everything. They are fantastic. I am welcomed and kept up to date with her care. I couldn't ask for a better home for my mother.

It was the annual dog show and greatly enjoyed by all. Completely confused residents, physically impaired, my daughter, myself and my three and four-year-old grandchildren. Well organised and a relaxed atmosphere. The host was, as always, very attuned to his audience.

I began my career in Health and Social Care back in 2002 in my hometown of North Wales, working as a Care Assistant. It was there that I discovered my passion for supporting others. In 2007, I became a Registered Nurse, earning a BSc (Hons) in Nursing, and in 2015, I completed a master’s degree in management.

Over the years, I’ve worked in Nursing and Dementia care environments, and I genuinely love what I do. Caring for others is such a privilege - being a part of someone’s life is incredibly special and something I value deeply.
