Reviews

9.1 Lewin House has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.054)

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for Lewin House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Lewin House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.34 for Lewin House is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 141 Ratings = 4.34

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.714 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lewin House is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 14 positive Reviews (70 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 14 Target = 0.714

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother is receiving excellent care at Lewin House. The staff on House One are friendly, attentive and very caring.
My mother lives with Lewy body dementia and her behaviour can be very challenging at times. The dementia care manager is superb. Our family are offered massive support by the manager and her team as we all try to care for our mother.

I have found Lewin House a very warm and friendly environment to be in. Trying to accept it was the right move for my dad has been the hardest thing I have ever done, but with the help from the staff who have welcomed 'us' into their home, it has been made easier to accept. The level of care they give to each and everyone is exceptional and as I have witnessed on many occasions, nothing seems too much trouble, considering the amount of paperwork they do and the long hours they put in. They all commit 100% and beyond. Dad seems to have settled in well and is now getting used to the familiar faces he sees every day. Fingers crossed it continues this way, because if he is happy, I am happy (sort of).

My brother has been a resident in Lewin House for six and a half years. The caring has been very good and of course, there has been ups and downs. He has been shown respect and kindness.
Any concerns have been addressed when needed. The building could do with refurbishment as it's not so homely and welcoming on the fourth floor.

From my first visit to Lewin House in August 2017 up to the present day January 2018, I can only speak highly of everything and everyone.
The care, cleanliness and attention given to the residents is very good and the whole home has a very friendly feel.

My father was transferred from the hospital to Lewin House just before his 90th birthday. The care and attention shown by all the staff was amazing. He was not with them long as he passed away shortly before Christmas but the home made sure he and my mother were kept comfortable calling out the doctor to him many times. I'm very thankful he spent his last days at Lewin House and not the hospital.

Overall, the care at Lewin House is good, they do from time to time have issues with being understaffed - this can result in no supervision in the dining room for residents, who need to be supervised when eating, which can cause concern. There have been a number of times that the dishwasher is out of use, this causes concern as the hot water is not hot enough to wash dishes and could lead to cross-contamination from one resident to another. I was there yesterday and washed the dishes myself due to staff shortage.
There are sometimes shortages of towels, bed linen etc and even pads from time to time. The permanent staff work hard to overcome these issues when really they should be addressed by management and resolved before it becomes an issue.
However, as I say the care is generally good and they try to understand each residents needs and work with the family. Overall, we are happy with Dads care and treatment at Lewin House.

"I would like to thank you for the many positive comments in the review and for highlighting some areas which do not meet our usual high standards. I would be more than happy to meet up with you next time you visit to discuss any other concerns you may have". Lynn Winkworth, Home Manager

Lewin House is a wonderful home. The care that my mother receives is excellent.
She has late stages Alzheimers and is very confused and not happy in herself. The care staff are all very caring and kind, even when she becomes aggressive and very rude. Since she became a resident at Lewin House in July 2016, she has been very well cared for.

Sadly, both Mum and Dad needed to go to a care home for the last part of their lives. Mum had Vascular Dementia and Dad required 24-hour nursing care. As a family used to caring for Mum and Dad ourselves, it was the most traumatic time of our lives.

We received the warmest welcome at Lewin House. Even though Mum and Dad's requirements were different, the staff managed to get Mum and Dad into rooms next to each other and spent every day making sure they got to see each other.

They were encouraged to take part in lots of activities, they were absolutely brilliant, from singing to quizzes to exotic fruit tasting. Mum and Dad loved these and they loved the care workers and nurses at Lewin House that helped look after them.

Sadly, Mum and Dad both passed away within a short time of each other, both were supported through their end of life with the utmost care, compassion and dignity.

We will never forget the kindness they have shown to us all. Thank you to all of you, we won't forget you.

My mother has been a resident of Lewin House for over 3 years now and I have been very happy with her care. The staff are genuinely caring people, the facilities are good, the care is good and medical needs are met, the food is appropriate for the elderly. The residents are treated with dignity. Lewin House is run by the not for profit Fremantle Trust - another plus in my opinion as it is all about the residents not the money, which is not always the case in other homes.

For anyone looking for a care home for their loved one, I would highly recommend Lewin House. Don't be put off by the location as it really doesn't matter to the residents. Once inside the doors, it is a safe haven and caring place.

I am impressed by the high standard of care that my sister receives. In addition to her safety and physical care, her dignity is respected. Her preferences are accommodated whether they be what food she enjoys or what activities she engages in, or not. My sister has always been demanding and on many occasions difficult. This behaviour existed before the present development of her dementia. Despite this, the positive and interesting aspects of her personality are recognised and encouraged by the Lewin House staff so that she enjoys being there and praises the care she receives. I only hope that there will be a place for me at Lewin House should I need residential care at some time in the future.

Mum has spent 6 weeks in respite at Lewin House and now has a permanent place which we as a family are very happy with. The staff are absolutely brilliant so kind and caring and really look after Mum exceptionally well. As a family we are happy with the care Mum is receiving we could not have asked for better such a relief to know she is in the best care. The rooms are lovely and spacious and very very clean, we can visit any time and the staff are so welcoming its a real pleasure to visit. All together a really nice place can recommend without reserve.

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

Lynn started working in the care sector in 1990. Her first job was for Buckinghamshire County Council working as a part time carer at Wing Lodge home for older people (now called Carey Lodge). In 1992 she began her career with The Fremantle Trust when Wing Lodge transferred from Bucks Community Housing Trust to Fremantle.

Lynn has worked her way up from carer to manager and became service manager of Sir Aubrey Ward in Marlow in 1997. Since that time she has worked in several homes for older people and has gained a wealth of experience from each home.

Lynn joined the team at Lewin House in November 2013 as acting manager and when the position of home manager became available she applied. Lewin House is the first nursing home Lynn had worked in and she describes it as an excellent experience. She loves working with such knowledgeable nurses and the well established staff team who all do an excellent job.

When asked what she likes most about her job Lynn replied, “for me it is always about the people and the fact that something different happens every day. I like feeling that I have made a difference”.
