During this call with (Lisa care home manager), we explained our Father's condition at length, Lisa seemed more interested in 'glossing over' our Father's health concerns, to upsell Abberton manor to us!. We were totally transparent about the fact our Father was blind, had dementia and was traumatised by the very recent loss of his wife of 60 years. The main reason for choosing Abberton Manor was location to my Father's beloved Mersea. On admitance (January 10th 2026), we were greeted with agency nurses who didn't seem to be aware of our presence, let alone my Fathers complex needs!. He was assigned an upstairs room ( he's blind!), I insisted on a sensory mat, to avoid my Father falling down a winding staircase!. Even when the mat buzzed no one came!, this happened regularly!. Abberton Manor has an ethos of money over care!

We are all sorry that we were unable to meet your demands; we feel your comments to be grossly inaccurate. There was very little understanding of your father's condition,and upon arrival it was very clear that he required urgent medical attention. It was highly frustrating that you would not permit a hospital admission to treat your father's delirium, and from the outset our strong recommendations to help your father were overturned. On the day of his arrival, one of our nurses came into the home specifically to make him welcome, and so he was not "greeted by agency nurses". We are fully staffed without need for agency. He was not assigned an upstairs room, it was a room that your family member chose based on our shared understanding of his needs. Clearly his condition had worsened to the extent he required one-to-one care, which we duly put in place to keep him safe, at no expense to yourselves. We therefore find it hard to read your comments of "ethos of money over care".

Wonderful staff each and everyone who works at the Manor, are kind and enthusiastic with fantastic personalities with all of the residents. The nursing staff, are great and extremely knowledgeable the residents have the kindest of care. All the boys and girls on the care team are extremely hard working and yet always have the time to sit and chat with residents as well as there visitors and keep everybody upto speed. Kitchen, cleaning, office, handyman/gardening and entertainment really go the extra mile. Bravo Team Abberton Manor.

My brother has been a resident full time for the previous 7 months, having received earlier intermittent respite care. I have been impressed by the care provided by all the staff at Abberton Manor, which is professional, prompt, and above all, kind and thoughtful. My brother has multiple needs, both physical and mental, and at times can present challenges, but he is treated with patience, in a friendly, cheerful and open environment. Family members are always warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate in the life of the manor, as well as being kept up to date on care issues in a timely manner.

I moved here at the end of October 2023 after 28 years in a certain area. My brother lives close by and I asked him and his wife to find me a nursing/care home in their area. After some time and many visits to other places, they decided Abberton Manor fulfilled my exacting requirements, not too many residents, great architecture, rooms with high ceilings and in spring/summer a garden to sit in. It has been an eye-opening experience for me, the staff day and night (nursing, catering) in fact everyone from top to toe has been very caring and attentive at all times. I cannot answer value for money as I have no input for this, my brother deals with all financial matters.

The bedrooms with bathrooms are so comfortable but the best feature of Abberton Manor, without a doubt, is the staff who I would describe as friendly and caring. Care homes, by their nature, are expensive but Abberton Manor stands "head and shoulders" above the norm. Very well done!
