West Eaton Nursing and Residential home

from Paul M (Son of Resident) published on 29 October 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother moved into West Eaton when she was no longer able to look after herself and stayed there until her death, aged 95. While she became increasingly immobile and her eyesight and hearing failed, she took part in the many activities the staff and volunteers put on, both inside the house and on
occasional excursions. She had her own room, light and airy, which we decorated with items from her house. She was able to watch her favourite programmes on TV in her room.
I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and understanding they gave to my mother. They were wonderful throughout: they treated her as a friend or as one of their own family. She was mentally alert right until the end, and came to see West Eaton as her home rather than just "a" home. We found the management and staff friendly, approachable, and ready to make little changes to make her life more comfortable. I have visited several care homes recently and can definitely recommend West Eaton as the very best.

My sister was looked after at Abberton Manor for the last three months of her life, following a terminal cancer diagnosis. She always felt well looked after by the caring and supportive staff who took a really interest in her. She was treated with respect and dignity and always found the staff friendly
and willing to chat. She always said that it felt like home.
The staff at the home were also always ready to help us too, the family and to take time to talk to us. We found the whole atmosphere relaxed and friendly.

We were fortunate enough to get our Dad a place at the Lawns for some much needed Respite care, this was all done with little notice for all involved. The Team at the Lawns made it happen and the staff were very warm & welcoming. They had an efficient caring and nursing team whom Dad grew very fond
of, we felt he was well looked after and incredibly safe in their care during this time. As family members, we were fully encouraged to be involved and informed in all decisions and we were also well looked after during dad's stay. There is a very happy content buzz about this nursing home from both residents and staff.

Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum lived at Newstead for over three years before she passed away in July 2025. She was very well cared for throughout the whole time she was there but the care she received at the end of her life was exceptional and she was treated with great dignity and respect. Our family were always welcomed at
the home and my father in particular became part of the Newstead family. He visited every day and was encouraged to join in with the activities with Mum and then as an individual when Mum was no longer able to join in (but would sit and watch). In fact he still goes to the home several times a week to join in his favourite activities and is always welcomed as an old friend. It is incredibly, incredibly rare for any bank staff to be on shift and I am sure that this contributes to staff creating a family atmosphere. All staff are friendly and kind - the manager, nursing staff, health care assistants, cleaners and kitchen staff equally and they greet you when you arrive. A really lovely home.

My sister was admitted to The Lawns care home following a number of severe strokes.
The respect, compassion and nursing care was outstanding and meant that we were able to spend valuable time with her during the last few months of her life.
In particular I would like to mention Issy, Becka and Shelley
who were able to communicate with her in a way that we weren't. The way they looked after her, did her hair and sang to her during her showers was a great comfort to me and her two children.
I will always be grateful to Mel and her team for the care provided.

My Father and Stepmother have been residents at The Lawns for about 7 weeks and the staff in this wonderful home are exceptional. They are friendly, caring and professional and create a safe and homely environment with community spirit.
I can't thank Melanie, the manager enough for accommodating both
our parents at such short notice and supporting us through the emotional process of transitioning from home to Nursing home, including the CHC assessment.
She is truly amazing!
My Father is frail and has many medical, nursing and care needs. The nurses and carers are excellent.
He receives monitored and reviewed individualised care, concerns are addressed and we are kept informed.
His room is light, comfortable ,clean and tidy with ample space for cherished possessions and there's always a friendly and willing person on hand with the offer of support and refreshments when needed.
Thank you all so much

The Lawns was always clean, tidy and fresh when entering and throughout the whole building. The garden areas were pleasant to sit and enjoy in the warmer weather. The information boards were very useful to see the upcoming events.
When my husband first went into The Lawns, the staff were very keen
to know as much information about him as possible, to allow them to engage and offer him appropriate activities where possible, and this proved very useful as time went on.
The staff were always very pleasant, cheerful and professional. It was apparent that the care they gave was more than the basic 'meeting the needs'. They always showed respect, dignity and great understanding to my husband, and in the final few days, they helped the whole family understand and come to terms with the situation.

My brother has been a resident full time for the previous 7 months, having received earlier intermittent respite care. I have been impressed by the care provided by all the staff at Abberton Manor, which is professional, prompt, and above all, kind and thoughtful. My brother has multiple needs, both

Our dad was only at Newstead for 4 weeks as he didn't settle at the first care home. We didn't know that dad would need end of life care so quickly. It was a real blessing that Newstead was there for him. I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. From the minute dad arrived they went out of their
way to make us all feel welcome and valued. Their absolute professionalism, expertise and sensitivity in caring for him in his last days was overwhelming. I was able to spend precious moments with Dad as a daughter, not his carer - I cannot thank them enough for their love and support. The manager's door was always open and the nurses always available for consultations. The carers also knew our names and were always around to offer help if needed. The impressive management imparted a ethos of respect and care for their loyal staff - enabling them to work efficiently and compassionately. The Doctor was outstanding too! The whole package gets 10/ 10. Should be a
flagship carehome!
