The Lawns

from Enid S (Wife of Resident) published on 12 September 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
The Lawns was always clean, tidy and fresh when entering and throughout the whole building. The garden areas were pleasant to sit and enjoy in the warmer weather. The information boards were very useful to see the upcoming events.
When my husband first went into The Lawns, the staff were very keen
to know as much information about him as possible, to allow them to engage and offer him appropriate activities where possible, and this proved very useful as time went on.
The staff were always very pleasant, cheerful and professional. It was apparent that the care they gave was more than the basic 'meeting the needs'. They always showed respect, dignity and great understanding to my husband, and in the final few days, they helped the whole family understand and come to terms with the situation.

I am the son of one of the residents who has been there since June 2025.
My Mother had been extremely ill in hospital prior to attending the Lawns, the Lawns Manager was extremely helpful and friendly and visited her in hospital prior to arranging to accommodate her at the Lawns.
All the staff at
the Lawns are very helpful, kind and understand that each resident has different needs.
The care given to my Mum has been exceptional and I am truly grateful for all they have done for her.

My brother has been a resident full time for the previous 7 months, having received earlier intermittent respite care. I have been impressed by the care provided by all the staff at Abberton Manor, which is professional, prompt, and above all, kind and thoughtful. My brother has multiple needs, both
physical and mental, and at times can present challenges, but he is treated with patience, in a friendly, cheerful and open environment. Family members are always warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate in the life of the manor, as well as being kept up to date on care issues in a timely manner.

My father has been at West Eaton for 14 months now. The staff are amazing. Nothing is ever too much to ask. They look after all my fathers needs, including encouraging and supporting him in the pursuit of his hobbies and interests. All the staff (management, medical, carers, housekeeping and maintenance
are so approachable and always willing to make necessary changes when requested, with immediate effect. This is a wonderful facility. We have been encouraged and supported in making my father's room his personal space. He has enjoyed and benefited from the activities and goes out on trips with staff. I can not thank the team at West Eaton enough for all their hard work and devotion.

I just visited Astley with no prior appointment to get a proper feel for it as we were looking at numerous options for a family member on full-time residential. Not only did they allow me in, but I also had a full tour and had a chance to see management and stay within the normal working environment.
Based on the professionalism and care packages offered and provided and exceeded the decision was without question the correct one. We would recommend Astley 100% in all aspects.

Our dad was only at Newstead for 4 weeks as he didn't settle at the first care home. We didn't know that dad would need end of life care so quickly. It was a real blessing that Newstead was there for him. I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. From the minute dad arrived they went out of their
way to make us all feel welcome and valued. Their absolute professionalism, expertise and sensitivity in caring for him in his last days was overwhelming. I was able to spend precious moments with Dad as a daughter, not his carer - I cannot thank them enough for their love and support. The manager's door was always open and the nurses always available for consultations. The carers also knew our names and were always around to offer help if needed. The impressive management imparted a ethos of respect and care for their loyal staff - enabling them to work efficiently and compassionately. The Doctor was outstanding too! The whole package gets 10/ 10. Should be a
flagship carehome!

During a very difficult period for our family, The Lawns Nursing Home in Kempsey became a true sanctuary for my father over the course of three months while he was extremely unwell. The level of care, compassion, and professionalism shown by every member of staff - from carers and nurses to the management
team - was nothing short of exceptional.

From the very first day, the team treated my father with dignity, patience, and warmth. They took the time to understand his needs, communicate clearly with our family, and ensure that he was not only safe and comfortable, but genuinely cared for. Their attention to detail, responsiveness to medical issues, and consistent emotional support made an enormous difference to his well-being - and to our peace of mind.

What truly stood out was the genuine kindness and dedication that permeated every interaction. The staff went above and beyond, always with a smile and a kind word. Simply amazing people! Thankyou to you all.

My mum moved into Newstead House 7 years ago when living independently with Alzheimer's Disease became too much for her. My sister and I had visited and viewed countless care homes in Herefordshire and after a lot of thought and consideration we settled on Newstead. I cannot rate the care she has received
over this time highly enough. They have been quite simply fantastic from the very start right up until mum passed recently. The quality of care and attention from all staff has been outstanding throughout mums time there. All staff caring for mum developed close working relationships with her and knew her very well. When she was unable to verbally communicate anymore they knew her well enough to read other cues so they knew what she wanted and needed. At no time have we ever had concerns that she has been unhappy or concerns about her care. I would hands down recommend Newstead for anyone requiring care in Herefordshire and can't rate them highly enough. Outstanding!!!
Reply from Alison Ough, Manager at Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home

Thank you, Tasha, for your very kind words. We were privileged to look after your Mum and provide her with care in the way we knew she would have wanted. Although she was not able to respond verbally, in the latter part of her illness, we were frequently blessed with a beaming smile which would just light up her whole face. Your Mum will always have a place in our hearts.
