Today, Mothering Sunday West Eaton invited families of residents to a Mother's Day lunch.
Three generations in our family enjoyed a delicious meal with superb hospitality, thoughtful table gifts and pretty table decorations. No effort on the part of the staff at the home was spared. All were and are
so friendly, obliging and courteous and made our day very special and memorable. A big thank you to everyone.
Looking forward to this week we know that there will be plenty of fun activities for all residents and that every day will be individually enjoyable.
Reply from Charmaine Denham, Registered Home Manager at West Eaton Nursing and Residential homeWe're delighted to hear that the lunch, decorations and little touches helped make the day feel special, and that our team's efforts and hospitality stood out. Creating meaningful moments like this for our residents and their loved ones is exactly what we strive for.
It's always a pleasure to welcome you and thank you so much for your wonderful review.

My Dad stayed at Newstead for end of life care for the last few months of his life until he passed in November 2025. Although he didn't wasn't felling up to joining in with the activities he was always invited. His care was second to none and all of the staff were absolutely fantastic both with him
and me and my mum. We never felt worried or concerned leaving him as we knew he was in the very best place. In particular in the last few days of his life he was treated with such care I cannot thank the staff enough. Truly an amazing care home with the most special of staff.

Our sister had been at Newstead for just over a year, and in that time the staff truly made it her home. She formed such lovely friendships with the staff and manager, and we always felt reassured knowing she was surrounded by kindness and care. Toward the end of her life, her health declined rapidly
and her passing was unexpected. I cannot thank the nurse on duty that day enough. She gave us the precious chance to say goodbye, knowing we wouldn't make it there in time. We will never forget her words: that our sister had her Newstead family with her, they were holding her hand, sitting with her, cuddling her, that she was not alone and not in pain, and they would not leave her. Twenty minutes later, I received the call to say she had passed. The love, compassion and support shown to us meant everything. Every one of you are angels and will always hold a special place in our heart.
Reply from Alison Ough, Manager at Newstead House Nursing and Residential HomeThank you for your very kind review. Your sister was a sepcial lady who was always smiling and had a twinkle in her eye. It was a pleasure to care for her and to know that she, and you, considered Newstead her home.

My Father was part of the Newstead family, from June 2024, until he passed away in November 2025. We were always welcomed when we visited and, as we live in Yorkshire, we we were always kept updated on Dads health. Dad, wasn't one to always join in with the activities, but was always given the option
to take part if he wished to. Many of the staff and management, at Newstead, have become friends and their care and compassion for Dad throughout his time there, always made us feel he was safe and secure, when were couldn't be there at all times.
The way they cared for Dad, especially, in the last few days of his life was exceptional, as is the support that we have received, since he passed.
Thank you all so much.
Reply from Alison Ough, Manager at Newstead House Nursing and Residential HomeThank you for sharing this review. My mum has started displaying very challenging behaviour lately. The whole team remain kind, caring and professional. On Sunday her mood and the weather improved and so she was wrapped up snuggly and taken out briefly. She enjoyed herself so much and was just so happy. Also during a period of extreme
anxiety a member of staff made the effort to search out prayers specific to her religion in an effort to comfort her. I am so extremely humbled by all the staff's continued care of my of my dear mum.
Reply from Charmaine Denham, Registered Home Manager at West Eaton Nursing and Residential homeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review, we are so glad that the team was able to support her in both her moments of anxiety and joy, and that they were able to bring her comfort through something as personal as her religion. Our Mum lived at Newstead for 4 years and over that time her health condition meant she gradually became more frail until, sadly, she passed away in September 2025. During that time Mum's changing needs were well catered for-even when her involvement in group activities lessened the Activities team
would spend time with Mum on a 1:1 basis. The carers were very good and supported Mum with her daily needs and established and maintained a good rapport with Mum and the family. The care Mum received in her final days was exceptional and much appreciated by my sisters and myself. Thank you to all the staff at Newstead.

My time here at West Eaton has been a rollercoaster for me. I can honestly say it has been a joy to be here. Each member of staff, from cleaner to manager, has played a part in getting me well and back to my old self. I had lost all ability to live. I wasn't taking my insulin (Type 1) or pills I slept
in a chair for over 2 years. Now I sleep in a bed and take my insulin and pills on time. All the staff each have a special give. I love having a bath with all the bubbles as I don't have one at home. I have shed a few tears and had many a cuddle. They all show true happiness and love in their jobs. They are so all dedicated to every patient even the grumpy ones. The food is like a 4 star restaurant. I love you all and thank you so much.

My mother moved into West Eaton when she was no longer able to look after herself and stayed there until her death, aged 95. While she became increasingly immobile and her eyesight and hearing failed, she took part in the many activities the staff and volunteers put on, both inside the house and on
occasional excursions. She had her own room, light and airy, which we decorated with items from her house. She was able to watch her favourite programmes on TV in her room.
I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and understanding they gave to my mother. They were wonderful throughout: they treated her as a friend or as one of their own family. She was mentally alert right until the end, and came to see West Eaton as her home rather than just "a" home. We found the management and staff friendly, approachable, and ready to make little changes to make her life more comfortable. I have visited several care homes recently and can definitely recommend West Eaton as the very best.
Reply from Charmaine Denham, Registered Home Manager at West Eaton Nursing and Residential homeThank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We're truly honoured that your mother chose to make West Eaton her home, and it means a great deal to know that she felt comfortable, cared for, and part of our family during her time with us. Our team takes great pride in creating a supportive and homely environment where every resident can enjoy meaningful activities and maintain their individuality, so your words about the staff's kindness and understanding are especially appreciated. It was a privilege to care for your mother, and we're grateful to have shared that part of her life with her and your family.

Mum lived at Newstead for over three years before she passed away in July 2025. She was very well cared for throughout the whole time she was there but the care she received at the end of her life was exceptional and she was treated with great dignity and respect. Our family were always welcomed at
the home and my father in particular became part of the Newstead family. He visited every day and was encouraged to join in with the activities with Mum and then as an individual when Mum was no longer able to join in (but would sit and watch). In fact he still goes to the home several times a week to join in his favourite activities and is always welcomed as an old friend. It is incredibly, incredibly rare for any bank staff to be on shift and I am sure that this contributes to staff creating a family atmosphere. All staff are friendly and kind - the manager, nursing staff, health care assistants, cleaners and kitchen staff equally and they greet you when you arrive. A really lovely home.

My father has been at West Eaton for 14 months now. The staff are amazing. Nothing is ever too much to ask. They look after all my fathers needs, including encouraging and supporting him in the pursuit of his hobbies and interests. All the staff (management, medical, carers, housekeeping and maintenance

Our dad was only at Newstead for 4 weeks as he didn't settle at the first care home. We didn't know that dad would need end of life care so quickly. It was a real blessing that Newstead was there for him. I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. From the minute dad arrived they went out of their
way to make us all feel welcome and valued. Their absolute professionalism, expertise and sensitivity in caring for him in his last days was overwhelming. I was able to spend precious moments with Dad as a daughter, not his carer - I cannot thank them enough for their love and support. The manager's door was always open and the nurses always available for consultations. The carers also knew our names and were always around to offer help if needed. The impressive management imparted a ethos of respect and care for their loyal staff - enabling them to work efficiently and compassionately. The Doctor was outstanding too! The whole package gets 10/ 10. Should be a
flagship carehome!

My mum moved into Newstead House 7 years ago when living independently with Alzheimer's Disease became too much for her. My sister and I had visited and viewed countless care homes in Herefordshire and after a lot of thought and consideration we settled on Newstead. I cannot rate the care she has received
over this time highly enough. They have been quite simply fantastic from the very start right up until mum passed recently. The quality of care and attention from all staff has been outstanding throughout mums time there. All staff caring for mum developed close working relationships with her and knew her very well. When she was unable to verbally communicate anymore they knew her well enough to read other cues so they knew what she wanted and needed. At no time have we ever had concerns that she has been unhappy or concerns about her care. I would hands down recommend Newstead for anyone requiring care in Herefordshire and can't rate them highly enough. Outstanding!!!
Reply from Alison Ough, Manager at Newstead House Nursing and Residential HomeThank you, Tasha, for your very kind words. We were privileged to look after your Mum and provide her with care in the way we knew she would have wanted. The amazing team at Newstead cared for my Mum in the last few weeks of her life. The kindness and empathy of the whole team towards my mum and all our family was so appreciated. They prioritised her comfort but also her dignity. They were respectful of her wishes and communicated so well with her even
when it often took a lot of time to be able to understand what she was trying to say. While mum wasn't well enough to take part in any of the weekly activities, we were able to observe these during all the time we spent with her. The feeling of the home is friendly and inclusive and there is a real range of activities which staff help residents to be included in.
Newstead is clearly well led and organised. Very quickly the appropriate assessments for continuing health care funding was arranged and adjustments to Mums care was so responsive as her health declined. A massive thank you to the whole team who made such a difficult time as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

From the moment we arrived at Newstead, Mum was met with warmth care and compassion.

Mum was spoken to with such kindness and respect, even though she was struggling with speech the time and patients that the team had was amazing and this barrier was never an issue.

The lengths they took to get

to know her and to make sure they could bond with her which was absolutely fantastic and so reassuring.

My mum was so anxious prior to arriving at Newstead but she was visibly and verbally about to express her relief to be in such a fantastic place.
