I was so upset when my dad had to go into a care home as his awake through the night with his dementia, but I was pleasantly surprised! My dad settled in quite quickly. The staff are lovely and caring and already know my dad's ways. The food is yummy, and they show respect for my dad, who, at times,
can be very difficult. Overall, I can go home knowing my dad is safe and well looked after, which is a huge weight off of my mind. I would recommend Elmcroft Care Home without a doubt.
Reply from Fiona White, Regional Director at Elmcroft Care HomeThank you for your recommendation and for taking the time to share your comments and we are pleased to hear that your dad has settled in so well.

Management and staff/carers are very caring, helpful and very polite and professional in all aspects. Their attitude to the family could not be better. I could not wish for my husband to be treated any better; they have been wonderful. Courteous and loving in his final days/hours. Well done, Elmcroft,
you're the best.

Mum is usually clean, warm and comfortable. She sleeps most of the time now so we don't know what she's like or what she does between visits. Mum's glasses, a hand-stitched blanket and other named items have been missing for several months. This is not uncommon! The admin and/or management is erratic.
Emails are not often answered. Appointments to visit are not often confirmed. The meeting minutes are not forwarded as promised.
Reply from Fiona White, Regional Director at Elmcroft Care HomeThank you for taking the time to raise your concerns. We take every opportunity to learn from feedback given to improve our service, and will always aim to resolve any issues that arise. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the home and we will do everything we can to resolve this for you and your mum and address any concerns you may have.

The home is set in a lovely location and all residents have access to secure gardens and grounds. All residents appear well cared for and contented. The staff are excellent, there is good interaction between staff and residents. Recently, activities have increased with the re-introduction of outings.
Music and dancing are particularly important to my husband and it is lovely that the staff find time to dance with him. Meals are good, with all diets catered for. I am pleased with the care my husband receives at Elmcroft.

The improvements this past six months have been astonishing. The team at Elmcroft go above and beyond for my mum. They are understanding of her needs and encourage her to join in activities etc. My mum's demanding and more so as the dementia increases. Thank you.

I feel that since my mom moved to Elmcroft in August 2022, she has improved and seems very happy. Mum has a good relationship with the staff and definitely has a few favourites. When any problems arise, I find the management team assist and rectify what I have asked. Overall, I find the staff friendly
and helpful and the home very clean.

My aunt has been at Elmcrodt for almost three years, and during that time, there have been a lot of changes in regard to management, and this has resulted in losses in respect of the care of my aunt, which I have addressed where necessary. However, it is evident that with recent changes to management
and structure, there have been improvements, particularly in regard to communication with prompt updates and liaison in respect of my aunt's well-being, care, health, and her presentation has improved. Care during a period of illness - very good.

Elmcroft has improved tenfold since the new manager took over - more consistency in staffing, communication with relatives and activities increased with trips out. Gardens and ground in general, along with redecoration of interiors, have all improved. I feel so much more relaxed after a visit now that
I can leave and know my dad is being well cared for. The improvements are ongoing, so I know the interiors will look even better, soon, bedrooms particularly.

1. Lack of communication regarding medication and GP care.
2. Buzzer is often left out of reach, or once put away in her cupboard.
3. After several requests for help to feed her, her food is left uneaten as she cannot feed herself.
4. Her clothes go missing, she's often dressed in clothes that are
not hers and sometimes her clothes are dirty.
5. During covid, twice I had to go and hunt down her personal wheelchair which was being used by other residents.

My mother has been here, Elmcroft, for eight weeks now. The staff are lovely and hard working. More cleaners are needed as I often clean my mum's rooms. They are extremely short-staffed. The nurses, carers and cleaners do their best but are spread extremely thinly. The receptionist is rude and is on
some kind of power trip and changes the rules on a daily basis as to whom is visiting. Overall it's satisfactory but you have to ask a thousand times for anything to get done or do it yourself.

Elmcroft accepted dad (who has Alzheimer's) when other facilities found his behaviour too challenging, and they've been with him on the journey for nearly 4 years now. He's gone from mobile to bedbound, verbal to not; as his needs have changed, the care has changed appropriately and well. As his only
relative and living overseas, they've worked hard to enable ongoing communication and weekly Zooms. They managed very well through COVID and the intense challenges that posed. I have confidence in the team, which being so far away is key.

My aunt has been in Elmcroft for some time now due to Alzheimer’s. Due to the pandemic, we have been unable to visit for most of this time, however, the communication from the new manager and the pictures on the Facebook page and calls from staff has been amazing. We are now able to visit and can see
the hard work and improvements that are being made.

My mother, who has Alzheimer's has been a resident at Elmcroft for a few years now. Due to Covid, we have been unable to visit in person since last year. There are new managers at Elmcroft who have been making improvements and I do feel that communication is now good and that as relatives our concerns
have been listened to and acted on. The staff are caring and when we have seen them treat Mum with respect. We have been pleased to see more photographs of activities and of Mum on the home's private Facebook page.

My wife has been at Elmcroft for over three years. We have found that Elmcroft has improved considerably with a recent change of management team. Staff levels are good and staff more involved both in the care aspects and activities. Accommodation is good and clean and well maintained, food from what
I hear is good and satisfying so no complaints. During this difficult period of lockdown, there has been good communication from management to relatives via photographs, videos and Zoom calls which is much appreciated. Staff seems happy and caring and generally, there is a good atmosphere around the care home. Any requests for support or information are dealt with promptly. A friendly feeling and I am well satisfied with the care offered.

A very caring home. Constant staff shortages so have to use an agency - poor for permanent staff's morale as they earn more. Also not nearly as good. Residents could ve showered/bathed more regularly but again staff shortages hamper this. Cannot believe staff aren't paid for their breaks. The home is
now for dementia and so wouldn't recommend it to anybody like my mum.

My mother has been a resident of Elmcroft since November 2016. Whilst unsettled at first, she has become accepting of her disabilities albeit sometimes very confused with her dementia. We as a family, are satisfied with the care mum gets. We visit four times a week, so monitor her status very vigorously.
The care is good but always could be improved. Carers need to be reminded, it is the residents home, and therefore shouldn't be a 'chore' to look after them. Paperwork is excessive, and more time should be spent with residents.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.387)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.387) out of 10 for Elmcroft Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.587 for Elmcroft Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (116 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 150 Ratings = 4.587
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elmcroft Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
