Review from J N (Cousin of Resident) published on 30 April 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My cousin who is 94 was transferred from hospital to Uplands. She was treated with respect and utmost care especially as she was blind and profoundly deaf. Communication was difficult but all staff were patient with her disabilities. As we live 90 miles away and could only visit now and again I felt that she was in safe hands. Well done Uplands.

Rather confused, I didn't know what had happened. I was found on the floor of my kitchen and taken to the local hospital. A week later I was transferred to Uplands, a nice looking building, well kept and beautifully clean.
Physiotherapists were good, explaining what they were doing and why. Food excellent, menu well thought out and beautifully presented.
Staff plentiful, all very pleasant and helpful. On the whole a calm, happy atmosphere, helping clients to calm down.

A good experience and happy outcome.

I am very satisfied with the care facilities provided. Together with the rehabilitation programme and regime. Attentive staff have been polite and helpful. Unfortunately, my admission was during the cold, snowy weather spell so an extra radiant hearing was provided in my room.

Mobility in the building(with frames) was reasonable, variant floor levels was a surprise. Left to upper floor helpful.

Overall Experience
I was admitted to Uplands Rehabilitation Centre from hospital ten days ago following a fractured groin.
The excellent physio team here are getting me walking again and I have progressed from a wheelchair and walking frame to crutches already, thanks to their rigorous but encouraging treatment.
My spotless ensuite bedroom is furnished to hotel standards and even my washing is folded and put away daily upon completion.
The food, particularly the meat, is very good and there is always a choice from the sensible and varied menu.
Finally, I am so grateful for the wonderfully caring staff, always willing to sort out problems regarding medical needs including the supply of medication from local pharmacies.

How fortunate and thankful I am to have been sent to Uplands at part of the struggling NHS service.

Extremely impressed with the efficiency and orderliness in the way the place is run. My mother has been complimentary about the food. The staff are always cheerful, helpful and friendly and the premises are clean and secure. I would recommend this place.

I was a patient at a care home and treated very well. The staff were lovely and very patient. The rooms were lovely and clean you could not fault them and that went throughout the home from floor to ceiling.

I would also like to thank the chef who provided lovely meals for everyone's taste.

As you will see I've marked excellent, this is because this is how I found the home to be.
My stay here has been very comfortable and most beneficial.
The physio treatment has worked wonders and I can now do decidedly more than when I arrived when I couldn't even write my name, I shall work at writing in a straight line.

I can now walk with assistance using a frame.

Overall Experience

The facilities and standards of physiotherapy and occupational therapy are excellent. The staff are all caring and friendly and concerned with individuals' welfare. The rooms are airy and clean with en-suite toilet and shower. Cleanliness is excellent and clothing was even washed and returned on a daily basis. Food is excellent, the overall experience has been excellent. The standard provided has been such that my period of rehabilitation has been completed in the shortest period, enabling me to return home with a significantly reduced care programme, thus saving the need for extensive home care, which would otherwise have been required.

Staff have treated me OK.
Some are kind and friendly, others are a bit abrupt, which I have accepted.
They are in and out most of the day and I find mornings are the worst. As soon as I'm woken with the bright lights switched on, my breakfast is put in front of me.
Then I have to get up and wash and dress so they can make the beds, then the chef comes to take my food orders.
After this, a staff member comes (for physio).

At home, I am never very bright first thing. I always have pain, but there I can sit down and rest for about 1/2 an hour until I feel better to carry on.

We have taken on board this feedback and in consultation with the service user, made some immediate changes to their daily routine which will hopefully resolve the issues raised. Thank you.

My partner and I found everyone friendly, courteous, helpful and they treated the residents with dignity.
All the staff are so good with him, it has been a pleasure to visit him and I have seen his progress in a very short space of time.
His sister and I can only thank everyone for what they have achieved with him.
I can honestly say that all the staff could teach other Acute Rehabilitation Centres how to treat residents.

Thank you Uplands.

We just cannot thank the staff at Uplands enough for the way they have looked after our Dad.
Every member of staff is ultra friendly and all of them have shown a genuine interest in our father's well-being and health.
He has been so happy staying here, it really has helped his confidence.
I would have no hesitation whatsoever to recommend Uplands to anybody thinking of using their care and facilities.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff.
