I have known my friend and neighbour for over 40 years.
Lately, she had become forgetful to some degree and seemed to find it difficult to manage her house and her food intake etc.
On visiting for the first time in Abbots Barton I was delighted to see how she seemed to have settled in and was relaxed and released from her everyday cares.
The staff are very friendly and the lunch was excellent.

There was a very pleasant, calm and caring atmosphere.

Mum has been very happy with all aspects of care and service at Abbot's Barton. Many friendly staff members, nursing and care staff, lovely fresh bright decor, always very clean. Catering is good and entertainment is varied, from singers to quizzes, so a positive overall recommendation.

The staff are exemplary. My cousin requires special attention and they do their very best to ensure that she is comfortable at all times. In particular, she has bonded well with a number of the carers and nurses which has made her more confident to take on life’s challenges.

The friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the home was evident from the moment we walked through the entrance door. My mother is a permanent resident and happy to be in a home where she is allowed to keep her independence while at the same time having the support and help she needs. The carers and staff are very helpful when I visit too and take my queries about her care seriously. I notice smiling faces everywhere when I visit and I like the fact that I can eat the occasional meal with her in the dining room so I can get to know some of the other residents too.

The care and attention given to my sister-in-law by the staff of Abbotts Barton Nursing Home has been outstanding and coupled with the excellent rooms and other facilities available, she is very happy there.

Unfortunately she needs regular medical care, but this is provided with a qualified nurse always available, and as a result, my wife and I have no concerns on this point. All staff, whether carers, medical, cleaning, reception or catering are well trained and very supportive to the residents, and I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending this home.

A well run, lovely and caring establishment. The staff are friendly and take good care of the residents. This home is of a high standard and the quality of the home is very good, one must expect to pay a premium for this.

My mother recently moved from hospital into Abbotts Barton Nursing Home. She suffered a stroke about a month ago and also has heart failure, rendering her bedridden. There is no prospect that her condition will significantly improve. I have found this nursing home to be clean, well equipped and well run. Staff are efficient and caring and I really don't think that we could have found our dear mother a better home.

I was not aware of my surroundings on arrival and was upset and confused. The staff were supportive but I took a while to settle into a routine. The food was good and served with a smile. The garden was delightful, beautifully planted and a joy to walk around.
I found the 5.30pm supper rather early. Most residents returned to their rooms by 6.30pm, making it a very long night.
Night staff were attentive but rather noisy.

I left after six weeks feeling well and my old self again.

Reply from Elaine Farrer, Operations Director at Abbotts Barton

Thank you for your review we regularly ask our residents about meals times and the feedback to date has been a 5.30 supper time is what the vast majority of our residents want. I am sorry if you felt this was too early for you - we also provide tasty snacks if anyone is hungry after supper.

A friend brought me, taken up in a wheelchair, no porter to take case and nothing of which to put case in except bedroom. Compared to the second-floor room, quite small but adequate. Very clean washroom. Pleased with flowers. A tissue box would be nice! Chair a bit shabby. Water always hot.

Food good, don't always get what you ticked. Very good to have a water with ice cream. Staff are very friendly and pleasant as usual and will help you. Laundry done quickly and efficiently. Like the balcony on the first-floor lounge. There is always someone around to help you. Like newspaper in hall and coffee machine. Nice loo paper and good napkins.

Standards of service remain high despite current staff shortages. Under new management there is now less contact between manager and residents/relatives but staff still seem motivated.

Great facilities. Especially good for healthier residents who can enjoy the great activities and lovely surroundings. The shortage of nursing staff puts a strain on the ability to care adequately for sick residents. Would still recommend as long as relatives available to bolster care requirements when necessary.

My mother has been at Abbotts Barton since 2007. I have always been delighted at the care she has received, her health recently has deteriorated but both nursing and social care have remained excellent. I am able to relax knowing she is safe, well cared for and happy. Although she no longer spends as much time with the activities available, which are numerous the staff are always popping into her room to ensure she has what she needs. I am pleased with the home and have no complaints.

My husband stayed in Abbotts Barton for just over 4 weeks so that our 2 live in carers and I could have a break. He was very well looked after and found the care friendly and kind. Food and drink are a problem since his stroke because of difficulty swallowing, so the staff are inclined to spoon-feed him (for safety reasons) more than we do at home. He finds the food rather bland for his tastes.

My review does show some concerns. The main reason for this is the unsettled leadership of the home. There was very little contact between the manager(s) towards myself or mum. We were not introduced and I don't think mum ever met them!

I believe the staff (who never express their own concerns) reflect the 'flaky' leadership. Mum always says they are rushed "fly in and fly out". However, I have never had any cause to think that mum has been abused physically or mentally and she has a twinkle in her eye towards some of them. She would like to have someone to sit and talk to her - she does not leave her room. I believe communication will improve with the new appointment and this will reflect on staff and residents.

My sister has been in the home for nearly four years. Although she has had health issues and now receives nursing time I have always been well informed about any changes that have been introduced. All staff are friendly and helpful and treat my sister with respect. Meals are appealing, nutritious and of a good variety.
