My wife and I found the initial introductory visits to arrange 2-week respite care for my 96-year-old mother very welcoming and informative, it provided a good vibe to the place, especially as we arranged this at fairly short notice. Further, follow up contacts with the management were also helpful...
The stay was more beneficial to my mother than she probably wants to admit. The prompt arrangements of a visiting physio, chiropodist and to have a blood test on site, were certainly a plus. Mum founding the nursing and caring staff very friendly, helpful and patient - the biggest plus over the two weeks. Although the food was generally good, there were occasions when her requested options were not able to be met. It was a shame the weather was not better over the 2 weeks, as she would have enjoyed spending more time out in the lovely gardens. Overall, the staff made my mother's stay comfortable and highly supportive with the management also being very approachable during the stay.
I found the care home comfortable and welcoming. Every member of staff was most helpful, willing and friendly - I could not fault anyone. The food was tasteful, varied and presented nicely. My room was cosy and clean. My only criticism is the bedding. The covers were inadequate in size and warmth. In all other respects, I was quite satisfied.
Thank you for your review, please do let our laundry team or home manager know of any issues with the bedding and we will do our utmost to resolve this for you, we have various options within the home.
This was the first time that we have visited our friend and we were passing and called in unexpectedly. We were given tea and sandwiches whilst we waited for him which was very kind. We feel he is well looked after.

On visiting for the first time in Abbots Barton I was delighted to see how she seemed to have settled in and was relaxed and released from her everyday cares.
The staff are very friendly and the lunch was excellent.
There was a very pleasant, calm and caring atmosphere.
Mum has been very happy with all aspects of care and service at Abbot's Barton. Many friendly staff members, nursing and care staff, lovely fresh bright decor, always very clean. Catering is good and entertainment is varied, from singers to quizzes, so a positive overall recommendation.

The staff are exemplary. My cousin requires special attention and they do their very best to ensure that she is comfortable at all times. In particular, she has bonded well with a number of the carers and nurses which has made her more confident to take on life’s challenges.

The friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the home was evident from the moment we walked through the entrance door. My mother is a permanent resident and happy to be in a home where she is allowed to keep her independence while at the same time having the support and help she needs. The carers and staff are very helpful when I visit too and take my queries about her care seriously. I notice smiling faces everywhere when I visit and I like the fact that I can eat the occasional meal with her in the dining room so I can get to know some of the other residents too.
Lovely staff and generally a pleasant place to be.

Unfortunately she needs regular medical care, but this is provided with a qualified nurse always available, and as a result, my wife and I have no concerns on this point. All staff, whether carers, medical, cleaning, reception or catering are well trained and very supportive to the residents, and I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending this home.
A well run, lovely and caring establishment. The staff are friendly and take good care of the residents. This home is of a high standard and the quality of the home is very good, one must expect to pay a premium for this.

My mother recently moved from hospital into Abbotts Barton Nursing Home. She suffered a stroke about a month ago and also has heart failure, rendering her bedridden. There is no prospect that her condition will significantly improve. I have found this nursing home to be clean, well equipped and well run. Staff are efficient and caring and I really don't think that we could have found our dear mother a better home.

I found the 5.30pm supper rather early. Most residents returned to their rooms by 6.30pm, making it a very long night.
Night staff were attentive but rather noisy.
I left after six weeks feeling well and my old self again.
Thank you for your review we regularly ask our residents about meals times and the feedback to date has been a 5.30 supper time is what the vast majority of our residents want. I am sorry if you felt this was too early for you - we also provide tasty snacks if anyone is hungry after supper.

We regards to making it a long night again we ask our residents about activities in the evening but the feedback is that most prefer to retire to their own rooms read, watch TV or listen to the radio. There are many games left available including board games, card games, jigsaw puzzles if anyone wants to something after supper in our variety of communal spaces.

Food good, don't always get what you ticked. Very good to have a water with ice cream. Staff are very friendly and pleasant as usual and will help you. Laundry done quickly and efficiently. Like the balcony on the first-floor lounge. There is always someone around to help you. Like newspaper in hall and coffee machine. Nice loo paper and good napkins.

Thank you for your kind comments and for your likelihood to recommend the home to others. Please be reassured that while we don’t employ porters, we always show new residents to their rooms and our staff will help with any heavy items. We then offer refreshments and provide a short orientation of the room such as the lights, call bell system and TV remote instructions, and talk through the welcome pack. I am sorry if you did not receive the food you have chosen – the catering staff would always be happy to make any changes. Thank you for commenting that the food was good. Regarding the chair, all our rooms are regularly deep cleaned and furniture checked. We have plenty of scope to move items and replace anything that did not suit your needs. Please also be reassured that our rooms are the same floor size but top-floor rooms may appear larger because of ceiling height and dual window aspects. A tissue box is a nice suggestion but comes into the category of sundries that we encourage residents to bring based on their own preferences. We do however provide a shopping service whereby such items are easily obtained on request. Thank you, again, for your review
The care at the home could not be better. The care, the friendliness and attention to detail is there for all to see. Most importantly of all is that my wife, despite her illness, seems happy and content. Well done to all.

Great facilities. Especially good for healthier residents who can enjoy the great activities and lovely surroundings. The shortage of nursing staff puts a strain on the ability to care adequately for sick residents. Would still recommend as long as relatives available to bolster care requirements when necessary.

Thank you for your comments and likelihood to recommend the home to others. We appreciate your feedback. There is indeed a new Home Manager in place. The new Home Manager is a highly experienced professional devoted to ensuring a high standard of care. She was keen to meet all families of residents as soon as possible. In addition, she advised a recent relatives and residents’ meeting of a successful recruitment campaign for care staff and she is in the process of selecting candidates for a new position of Senior Nurse. She has also introduced more dedicated time for residents to speak with her as well as a daily ‘drop in’ sessions for relatives. She is happy to make time to help with any queries and is actively involved in ensuring care reviews are completed with families and residents alike. The Home Manager and her Clinical Lead have both personally supported your loved one recently and he has expressed his appreciation of all the care given. Regarding the wider staffing at Abbotts Barton, please be aware that our staffing levels are acknowledged as being among the best in the care sector and there are no staff shortages at the home. Thank you again for your review.
My treatment has been first class. All members of staff have treated me with care, consideration, and dignity. The rooms are excellent and so is the ambience.

My mother has been at Abbotts Barton since 2007. I have always been delighted at the care she has received, her health recently has deteriorated but both nursing and social care have remained excellent. I am able to relax knowing she is safe, well cared for and happy. Although she no longer spends as much time with the activities available, which are numerous the staff are always popping into her room to ensure she has what she needs. I am pleased with the home and have no complaints.

My husband stayed in Abbotts Barton for just over 4 weeks so that our 2 live in carers and I could have a break. He was very well looked after and found the care friendly and kind. Food and drink are a problem since his stroke because of difficulty swallowing, so the staff are inclined to spoon-feed him (for safety reasons) more than we do at home. He finds the food rather bland for his tastes.

"Thank you for your comments about the high standards of care at Abbotts Barton. We are pleased you feel the general quality of care is excellent and you would be extremely likely to recommend the home to others. You mention the amount of spoon-feeding your husband receives given his difficulties in swallowing after a stroke. Please be reassured we follow a full nutritional assessment for every respite care resident every time they come and stay with us. Where they are recommended to have a puree or mashable diet, our staff are fully trained and knowledgeable about how to provide it. Regarding taste and flavour, this is something that of course varies from person to person but I understand the Home Manager has spoken with you so we can better meet your husband’s needs. Our chefs are also available to discuss menu choices. Thank you, again, for your review.”
My aunt's health has improved no end since becoming a resident. She seems happy and content.

I believe the staff (who never express their own concerns)...
I believe the staff (who never express their own concerns) reflect the 'flaky' leadership. Mum always says they are rushed "fly in and fly out". However, I have never had any cause to think that mum has been abused physically or mentally and she has a twinkle in her eye towards some of them. She would like to have someone to sit and talk to her - she does not leave her room. I believe communication will improve with the new appointment and this will reflect on staff and residents.

"Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your mother’s recent experience at Abbotts Barton. The feedback is very valuable to us. As you indicate, we have a newly appointed Home Manager in place. In fact, in her previous role, she was the person who admitted your mother, met her at the home and carried out her pre-assessment. I am sorry you felt there were some communications issues during the initial period of your mother’s residency before the Manager’s appointment was confirmed. We certainly did our best to ensure a smooth handover during this time and we always strive for continual communication between staff, resident's and families. Contrary to your perception, we actively encourage our staff to express their own concerns on any aspect of care or life in the home. I know the new Manager is already working closely with you to ensure your mother has a happy and comfortable stay at Abbotts Barton. She is meeting with you to discuss and resolve any questions you may have. Thank you once again for your review.”
