Abbotts Barton occupies a commanding position in a pleasant residential area within easy reach of the historic city of Winchester. As well as providing excellent levels of comfort, some rooms offer marvellous views across to the city and its magnificent cathedral.

My treatment has been first class. All members of staff have treated me with care, consideration, and dignity. The rooms are excellent and so is the ambience.

My mother has been at Abbotts Barton since 2007. I have always been delighted at the care she has received, her health recently has deteriorated but both nursing and social care have remained excellent. I am able to relax knowing she is safe, well cared for and happy. Although she no longer spends as
much time with the activities available, which are numerous the staff are always popping into her room to ensure she has what she needs. I am pleased with the home and have no complaints.

My husband stayed in Abbotts Barton for just over 4 weeks so that our 2 live in carers and I could have a break. He was very well looked after and found the care friendly and kind. Food and drink are a problem since his stroke because of difficulty swallowing, so the staff are inclined to spoon-feed
him (for safety reasons) more than we do at home. He finds the food rather bland for his tastes.

My review does show some concerns. The main reason for this is the unsettled leadership of the home. There was very little contact between the manager(s) towards myself or mum. We were not introduced and I don't think mum ever met them!
I believe the staff (who never express their own concerns) reflect
the 'flaky' leadership. Mum always says they are rushed "fly in and fly out". However, I have never had any cause to think that mum has been abused physically or mentally and she has a twinkle in her eye towards some of them. She would like to have someone to sit and talk to her - she does not leave her room. I believe communication will improve with the new appointment and this will reflect on staff and residents.

The care home is welcoming, comfortable and has a homely feel, whilst still providing a very professional service. Care and dignity are clearly maintained.

My sister has been in the home for nearly four years. Although she has had health issues and now receives nursing time I have always been well informed about any changes that have been introduced. Abbotts Barton is a very friendly home. You always get a warm welcome from the front desk staff when you visit and they are always helpful when you phone. Each resident has a dedicated staff member and it is great to speak to them, either face to face or on the phone about a resident's care plan or
any other issues. Staff are always friendly, helpful and happy to help. Many staff - both nursing and housekeeping have been with this home for several years which is a strong indicator of loyalty and being happy in their workplace. I am kept well informed of any issues regarding my mother's care and wellbeing, there is always good dialogue. Recent 'churn' in home managers did lead to some instability but the return of a previous deputy as the new home manager will provide a strong sense of continuity. I was delighted to hear of her return as she is a 'safe pair of hands' with a nursing background as well as an experienced manager. We are very happy with the care and attention my mother receives.

I came to stay for 10 days following hip replacement surgery in order to regain my mobility and confidence before returning home, where I live alone. I was visited in hospital by Head of Care to ensure that all aspects of my stay were appropriate to my needs. On arrival, all staff from the Manager down
were immediately attentive to my requirements. The home is particularly well designed with central lounges and there are stairs and a lift on each floor with access to the garden through the lounge or dining room. The gardens are maintained and it is a pleasure to walk around the pathways. The laundry service is very efficient. There is a daily programme of activities in the lounge. The meals are nutritious and well presented. The dining room staff are courteous and obliging to cater for particular needs. The nursing staff are available day and night to assist in medication and care. The home is ideal for short or longer term residents who are content and cheerful.

My mother moved into the home following a medical error in Southampton. We spent months looking for a care home and discussed dozens as unsuitable. My mother has been in the home for over eight years now and I and the family cannot speak too highly of Abbotts Barton, management, care staff, catering
and domestic. My mother is happy, well cared for and liked by the staff.

Visited by senior nurse and newly appointed care manager prior to respite stay. Very thorough. Interest shown in my husband's interests, needs, medication etc. Very well located room. Very clean and prepared for my husband's stay. Helped to settle him in by staff both ancillary and nursing staff. Helped
my husband to be involved in activities where appropriate. Taken into garden several times. Visiting friends reported back - good care, respectful staff. Looked well kept and well fed. A well run and caring environment for vulnerable patients.

I cannot recommend Abbotts Barton more highly. The staff are totally dedicated to seeing that not only the patient but also their family are looked after as if they were their own. Nothing is too much trouble, and whatever they do, they smile and put the family first, be it providing family meals, comforting
for grieving family members, or just bringing tea and coffee. Thank you everyone at Abbotts Barton. We were so lucky to get a room at your wonderful care home. My husband was looked after so very well.

Due to illness at Christmas across the home, it was closed as a precaution. The home kindly re ran Christmas lunch for all residents and there guests. It was a fantastic event and nice for me to have two Christmas dinner within a month.

My husband and I attended a late Christmas lunch. Held to compensate for Christmas blighted by D&V which resulted in my mother being confined to her room and unable to spend Christmas with us. The lunch was well organised, the food was very good and the service excellent. We enjoyed meeting other residents
and their guests. All in all I would say it was a great success.

Enjoyed a fun "delayed Christmas" celebration at Abbotts Barton. The full Christmas meal was delicious and the room was full of chatter and laughter, with gentle music played by an excellent trio in the background.
