They are proud to have two care homes on site: The Manor, residential home, and The Lodge, nursing and dementia nursing home.

My dear wife was here for only a week, at end of life, but the care and attention that she received was fantastic and fully in keeping with her positive attitude. The same care and compassion were afforded to me in these difficult times.

There has been an improvement recently and staff have been particularly helpful, willing and pleasant. The manager has been visible and approachable and has been quick to sort out a problem to aid the wellbeing of my stepmother.

I am unable to speak for my sister, who was a resident at Gorseway, as she was terminally ill and unable to comment. However, I was very impressed with Gorseway. The room was beautiful with a lovely garden view. All my contact with the staff was courteous and respectful, and I felt the careers and nurses
really tried extremely hard to make my sister comfortable and happy in what were very difficult circumstances. The nurses especially were always willing to talk to me and help. I felt my sister was in very good hands and I thank you all.

My 98-year-old aunt was in the nursing home for over a year before we moved her. They were constantly understaffed so nobody had time to talk with her. She was left on her own in bed all day. It was very difficult to get through on the phone and they rarely called back when they said they would. The
manager changed three times in a year and a half and the staff was constantly changing and obviously unhappy. It was also very expensive. On the good side, the room was spacious and clean and nice gardens and the physical care was good. Terrible CQC report. The new home is so much better.

Grandparents arrived 2+years back and it’s gone from bad to worse since new owners took over approximately 22 months ago. We agreed on a price for the care at the start and things were running fine, then the new owners took over and much of the nonessentials became scarce, i.e. excursions out, entertainment
in and even the tea trolly was regularly amiss; Their excuses are they don’t have the staff; this went on for many months. During this time my grandparents became settled and content and adopted an attitude of “what we get is better than nothing”. When Granddad passed away, my nan's payments changed and that was okay because her financial status changed. With her now paying the full whack and reassurances from management that “things were in place for great change”, a new price was agreed...a few months later a forced 5% price increase, which we begrudgingly accepted in the hope that things for Nan would get better. A few more months pass and another forced 5% price increase.

My mum has been here for two months, and in that time she has been well looked after. The staff are lovely and always available and willing. She has her own furniture in her room, which helps to make it like home, plus the internet allows her to watch her beloved sports, in her room.
I now have some
peace of mind that she is looked after 24/7.

My husband has been at Gorseway Nursing Home since October of this year. We like the overall ambience and the facilities on offer, and my husband has a very pleasant room with a lovely view.
However, these points need addressing. The cleanliness of the room should be of a consistently high standard
as we have noticed that food spills are not always cleaned up.
There are some issues with my husband's personal hygiene, which my son hi-lighted on a recent visit, and is concerned to know if his father has had a bath since arriving. His hands and nails were unhygienically dirty, we had to attend to this ourselves.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Room not full ready when we arrived.
Not all staff wore name badges so it was difficult to know who was who.
The room was very cold and the bathroom was "freezing". Staff were unable to increase the heating.
Towels provided were too small for such a cold
bathroom.
Very limited choice of sandwiches in the evening - jam sandwiches are not appropriate for a diabetic.
Bed not made daily.

My wife was cared for Gorseway for 16 months prior to her death. Staff were always kind, caring and helpful. The environment and facilities at Gorseway are excellent.
While I had some reservations on the number of carers available I have no hesitation in recommending Gorseway to others.

My father stayed in Gorseways for respite in August, he was happy there and would be very willing to stay again. Overall, the care was good and very friendly staff who treated my father well. The only issue we had really was lack of activities as other residents were more advanced in their Dementia/Alzheimers.
The room was lovely, overlooking the fish pond and garden. I would certainly recommend this care facility.

My first impression standing at reception was how clean and modern and smart it is, more like a hotel. The manageress is such a warm and friendly, helpful person - the staff are wonderful. All the rooms are large and comfortable with a view of the beautiful gardens. The restaurant is more like a hotel
dining area with a view of the garden. The food is very good with second helpings if you wish.
I do not want to go home, I enjoy the activities.
I cannot speak highly enough of Gorseway Lodge. Also the biggest factor - there is no smell of urine, everywhere is clean.
Reply from Serb Sidhu, DSMM at Gorseway Park Retirement VillageThank you very much for taking the time to submit a review for the home. We are delighted to hear how much you are enjoying your stay and the environment, and are pleased to share this feedback with our dedicated team.

Having visited for a look round before booking my mother in law in for 2 weeks respite after spinal fusion surgery we were continually chasing for a promised assessment of her needs after discharge from the hospital.
Finally, it happened and she was taken from the hospital in Salisbury to this care
home.
She stayed for one night!
The call system bells were going all night and staff were very hard to find.
We were sold a peaceful, stress-free recovery time for my mother in law after major surgery.
This is not what she got.
The room seemed pleasant enough when we looked around.
Sadly the floors were sticky and the bedding smelt very unpleasant when she eventually went to bed.
She hardly slept and her stay did not even last 24 hours.
Considering how much she was to be charged for her two-week stay I definitely think that this home could do so much better.
Reply from Sarah Hayman, General Manager at Gorseway Park Retirement VillageI am so sorry to hear your stay wasn't an enjoyable one. Our values are to make sure every resident is made comfortable well cared for at all times.

As the manager of the home, I am deeply saddened to hear that this was not the case, if you would like to discuss this further, please contact Gorseway and ask to speak to the acting Manager and I will be happy to talk with you.

Since my father has been released from the hospital he has improved tremendously whilst in Gorseway Lodge's care. The staff are kind and compassionate and are working with dad to implement the physio's exercise plan to improve his mobility. We lost his wife recently too and the staff followed our lead
keeping quiet about mums death until dad was ready and then supporting him through the following days.
They far exceeded our expectations by laying on a mini bus to take us all to the funeral allowing a small wake in their lounge and even giving dad condolences flowers. We are delighted with their service and feel the staff care for him, as we would do. Superb..

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.757)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.757) out of 10 for Gorseway Park Retirement Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.757 for Gorseway Park Retirement Village is calculated as follows: ( (308 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 387 Ratings = 4.757
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorseway Park Retirement Village is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
