Pax Hill is care home set in nine acres of gardens in the picturesque village of Bentley on the border between Surrey and Hampshire. Every room in this unusual circular building has views of the surrounding countryside or central courtyard through low level picture windows.

Each bedroom has large en-suite shower rooms with wheelchair access, electric profiling beds, flat screen television, telephone and access to a broadband internet connection.

Nursing and care staff are on duty 24 hours a day to provide help whatever your care requirements.

Separate, self-contained care areas enable them to provide different types of care and to enable residents to feel comfortable with their surroundings.

Professionals provide general nursing care, palliative care, nursing care for dementia and residential care.

Activity therapists provide a social calendar of events and support to encourage communication and maintenance of an active lifestyle. Alternatively, the gardens provide the perfect place for tranquillity and a spot of gardening.

They are happy to offer respite and short-term care for a few days to a few weeks to cover post-operative recuperation, carers holidays and breaks, or trial visits to see if care home life is suitable for you.

We were made very welcome. My husband has been well looked after. He enjoyed the food. The staff have been very kind and gentle. He has enjoyed the activities. He has had two weeks here in the Balmoral unit after having a hip replacement. Everyone is very friendly. It is good to know there is a trained
nurse on duty.

My father has been a resident of Balmoral at Pax Hill since early autumn. I can not stress how exception the care has been.
From the moment you walk through the main doors you are greeted by a smiling face, given help and advice whenever needed. My father is really enjoying the amazing creative activities,
making new friends with residents and staff. His personal needs are met with respect and dignity. His room is always beautifully clean. Enjoys his meals. I have high praise for the level of care and compassion shown to my father. Wonderful care - thank you everyone.

My husband is bedbound and has advanced Parkinson's and dementia. He is treated with gentleness and respect at all times. He is always comfortable and clean when I visit. The staff are friendly and welcoming to me and nothing is too much trouble. I am very happy with the care given to my husband and
would highly recommend Pax Hill.

The clue is in the name Pax Hill. Care home and the way that you cared for our beautiful mother was so special.
From our first contact with Pax Hill nothing was too much trouble, day one when you stayed late to help with Mum's arrival to her last hurrah and facilitating a wonderful family room for
our party!
The staff, rooms, food, gardens and love! Nothing could have been any better. Thank you!

Pax Hill was the 5th and final home that Mum lived in, for a period of 6 months. The care she received was exemplary and the staff were really accommodating. We struggled to find somewhere she would be happy and the excellent staff on the Balmoral wing, were brilliant in both attending to her needs,
which increased over time, and in engaging with her so that she felt 'understood'. One member of staff in particular offered a level of empathy and understanding that is quite extraordinary.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Pax Hill to anyone looking for a caring and loving environment for their loved one, where they can be made comfortable, engaged with, and make the most of the life they have left. Thank you Pax Hill!

The care that our mum has received on Montgomery Wing at Pax Hill has been fantastic. She has an exceptional team looking after her, which provides a high standard of personal care, communicates well with the family and always respects her wishes on a day-to-day basis. I am confident that despite her
difficulties she is made to feel as comfortable as possible, and her dignity assured.

From the moment of entry to the home a very warm welcome. Staff so supportive to relatives and keeping updated on any health issues. All staff make me feel my husband is in safe and very caring hands. He smiles and has fun as soon as he hears staff voices as his sight is not great. The care staff go
above and beyond they are just amazing.

Mum has been a resident since 2021 and everyone has made her feel very welcome. She has settled in well and gets on well with all the carers who look after her. From a family viewpoint, they are always happy to talk to the family and answer any questions they may have.

My mother-in-law has lived at Pax Hill for six years - initially in the EMF, then moved to nursing care. She was treated with respect, love and care by the Pax Hill staff who became more like family. Her needs were noticed and met, we were kept informed, made welcome at all times, and involved in every
decision. As her health changed she was treated with the utmost compassion, as were we when she peacefully died. We were touched by the personal way staff came to pay their respects and say goodbye. I am a healthcare professional and can say this is the best example of care of the elderly you will find.

Attended the fete at Pax Hill care home on 3rd July. Lovely event, we really enjoyed it, and Mum loved the singing - especially the Abba songs! The staff from the EMF wing are so friendly and welcoming, I always leave feeling reassured that Mum is in safe and loving hands. Thank you all so much for
your hard work.

All the staff at Pax Hill are excellent - from management, reception, support and care staff. They always are courteous, caring and helpful - this is the most important factor in our choice as a family for this home. Unusually - the turnover of staff is very low - the majority that comes into contact
with my mother has been here for three years, this is very good. Food can always be improved. The rooms - would be improved by following suggestions - removing the desk and providing shelves/draws - to display person knick-nack to personalize the room more. (I have worked in a high-end care home myself, and I highly rate Pax Hill).

In June this year, our mother was admitted to Pax Hill, Montgomery floor as an emergency resident due to her terminal cancer and onset Dementia, which meant that my sister and I could no longer look after her full time at home. We can't honestly describe all the amazing care, love and support she and
our family received from day 1, she was truly happy and fell in love with each and every one of the staff. The nursing and care provided was excellent, with the support of the doctor's surgery she was kept out of as much pain as possible and we were always kept informed. She was there for 3 months, which amazed us all with her strength to fight Cancer. But it's not surprising as she was so happy being there. In the final week of her life, she was continued to be treated with so much dignity, respect, and love, that it truly made a tough time bearable. Montgomery wing, you will always be cherished in our lives. Love from all of us and of course Benny the dog!

We moved mum in with us for end-of-life care in August 2020. But having had a fall and was admitted to hospital, on discharge, it became clear I was unable to give her the nursing care she now needed so we moved her to Pax Hill. From day one, all staff including receptionists were so kind and friendly
and a big thank you to all the staff on Montgomery for the care they gave mum in her 10 days with them and especially one staff member for staying with mum in her last moments and keeping me up to date on a daily basis. I cannot recommend the care home highly enough and had she lived longer I know mum would have been very happy there.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.879)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.879) out of 10 for Pax Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.879 for Pax Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (484 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 544 Ratings = 4.879
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pax Hill Care Home is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 98 registered maximum number of service users is 19.6, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
