Originally when I came to Steep House it was only for a short stay but my partner who had a chest problem could not be taken care of at home so I decided to stay. I do not rue that decision. My partner passed away over 3 years ago, Lord rest her soul. I have made lots of friends in the staff and residents
so I'm, a very happy guy. As far as I am concerned I am a very well contented man.

I've always felt as soon as you make contact with any of the staff how friendly and helpful they are, especially the manageress who seems to go that extra mile, and I am satisfied with her care, she has been a difficult person but they handle her very well.

I have only enormous thanks and praise for the excellent care and attention given to both my mum and dad (parent-in-law). Also for the time given to myself when help was needed. Nothing was too much trouble.

I felt very pleased with the care my Mother received, from the activities to the nursing and support team, they knew Mother's needs and worked hard to meet them.

I moved my mother to Steep House about 12 months ago. I felt at the time that I was very lucky to have found this place and I have never regretted my decision. My mother is extremely well cared for. They take the time to know each person individually and she is always treated with dignity and “as herself”.
The range of activities is enormous and Mum takes part as well as she can, and seems to enjoy herself thoroughly. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, who are always friendly and approachable. The food is good too!

Since my father moved to Steep House Nursing Home at the end of February 2017, he has been very well looked after. The staff are very caring with the residents and always greet me with a smile and a hello. There is a lovely homely feel about the place and my father settled quickly and is very happy
to be living at Steep.

My mother has been extremely well cared for at Steep House. Although confused, she has said many times that she is happy there and the staff are very helpful and caring.
Over the four months, she has been at Steep House, there has bee a noticeable improvement in her mobility caused, I believe, by
her being encouraged to move around more - 'use it or lose it'. There is also a discernable improvement in her mental ability.

I have a good friend who is a resident and whom I regularly visit. I find the home welcoming and the staff friendly and caring. They show a strong empathy towards their residents. The home is always clean and they are well maintained with its upkeep. Staff interact with visitors which I find reassuring
and they smile.

A very professional nursing home.
Caring staff.
My father arrived from hospital in a terrible state and they managed to nurse him back to a coherent human being.
The nursing staff are very professional and the activities staff keep the residents entertained on a daily basis.

I am so impressed by all the lovely staff at Steep House.
They are all so kind, gentle and patient with all the residents.
They work such long hours and some days I can see it's not easy to cope with but they always smile and do their best to comfort and help the residents.
As regards 'Activities',
there are always new things to keep residents thinking, remembering and plus a little exercise.
Also, all the staff are always available for any queries or help.
Nothing at Steep House is ever too much trouble.

As a visitor to the home, I have always been well received by a friendly and welcoming team, and phone calls made to Steep House enquiring about my father's health have always been kindly and patiently handled.

The atmosphere is friendly. Efforts made to encourage residents to use the garden, a facility

that has been much improved by the team during my father's stay.

The sensitivity and kindness with which his ending was handled was greatly appreciated by his family. He died on November 20th.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.925)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.925) out of 10 for Steep House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Steep House is calculated as follows: ( (208 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 219 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Steep House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my career as a nurse before moving into management, combining practical experience in health and social care with a strategic approach to leadership.

At Steep House, my focus is on delivering high-quality, personalised care, working closely with residents, their families, and friends to build a supportive community. The dedication and compassion of our team makes me incredibly proud to be the Manager here.

I would describe myself as honest, cheerful, and genuinely caring. My goal is to ensure residents feel valued, happy, and fulfilled in their daily lives. Taking time to listen to their needs and making them smile is, to me, the most rewarding part of this role. I firmly believe every resident should have the chance to live their life according to their own wishes, and I am committed to supporting them in this journey.

Leading our team is a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. Together, we create a warm, welcoming environment that feels like home, where every resident receives the respect, attention, and individualised care they truly deserve.
