My mother-in-law was a resident at Steep House for just over two years. During that time she was treated with unfailing kindness by all members of staff. The residents are kept occupied with lots of activities and the food is freshly cooked on the premises. All areas of the house are kept clean and
well-maintained.

Can only judge from first impressions. My wife has been a resident for just over 10 days. So far, good impressions. Staff keen to determine the best regime, namely food and sleeping needs.
Overall, the atmosphere is good-humoured and anxious to please.
Early days yet but optimistic my wife will be
comfortable as summer approaches.

My Mum has been a resident at Steep House now for 4 1/2 years. She is totally dependent on the staff for all her needs and we have always been grateful and extremely pleased with the care and support Mum has received, and thanks to the excellent nursing staff also, she has recovered from various illnesses
including pneumonia at the age of 95. The staff treat the residents with dignity and cheerfulness and it is a very welcoming home to visit day or night. Our Mum could not be in a better home with the wonderful staff.

My wife has been a resident in Steep House for about 2 and a half years and during this time, I have been extremely pleased I chose this home. I am pleased she is getting very good care and have never had reason to complain and minor issues are always dealt with quickly. Regular meetings for relatives
are held, we are always kept aware of changes and my issues are fully discussed. A dedicated member of staff arranges entertainment and makes a lot of effort to keep residents involved in activities and entertained.
Arrangements can be made to have a meal with a resident which I have found particularly nice on birthdays and at Christmas.

Although my twin sister was only in Steep House Nursing Home for a relatively short time before she died, it was clear to me that she was in an excellent home. The air of bustle and activity is very heartening to witness. There was always a pleasant face and it is noticeable how all residents were observed
with a friendly interaction. It was impressive to see designated activity staff 7 days a week. Well done.

My husband spent three years at Steep House. He enjoyed being part of the community.
The staff were caring and supportive of both my husband and our family.
In his last year, he could do little but the odd ice cream or milkshake gave him great pleasure.
Steep House's strength is it's well trained
staff, many young and lively, which adds to the atmosphere.
There was always a welcome, an offer of a cup of tea and help when needed.

In gratitude for the care that my mother was shown in her final six months and wish to enhance the benefits for the other residents of Steep House; I undertook a cycling challenge to raise funds for Dementia UK and to contribute towards the Steep House Residents Fund. This latter fund is used to provide
additional resources for the residents, with the current aim to purchase a Vecta Mobile Sensory Unit to stimulate residents suffering from Dementia.
My aim was to travel from the furthest point west to the furthest point east in Great Britain. I commenced my cycle ride at Lands End on the 13th May and over the course of the following six days finished my ride in Lowestoft after 532 miles on the road. Friends and family have supported my causes to the tune of £1100, which hopefully will go some way to aiding the good work that is undertaken by both organisations.

Mum moved to Steep Hose when her dementia made it impossible for me to care for her at home. She was very happy there, was well looked after. She was always clean and looked well cared for. Mum could be very difficult but they were very patient and kind. She developed a bad skin infection - the nursing
staff managed this extremely well. I am very happy with the way she was looked after. I cannot fault the way she was cared for in any way.

Care and attention unsurpassed.
As I was recovering from a hip replacement, I needed a fully accessible toilet with bards to lean on. I couldn't find one on the ground floor. As my room (chair much too low) was on the first floor I had to continually go upstairs to my toilet, which was ideal, if only
there were others like it.
The thoughtfulness and care of all the staff was amazing. They were always so willing and cheerful.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.925)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.925) out of 10 for Steep House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Steep House is calculated as follows: ( (208 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 219 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Steep House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my career as a nurse before moving into management, combining practical experience in health and social care with a strategic approach to leadership.

At Steep House, my focus is on delivering high-quality, personalised care, working closely with residents, their families, and friends to build a supportive community. The dedication and compassion of our team makes me incredibly proud to be the Manager here.

I would describe myself as honest, cheerful, and genuinely caring. My goal is to ensure residents feel valued, happy, and fulfilled in their daily lives. Taking time to listen to their needs and making them smile is, to me, the most rewarding part of this role. I firmly believe every resident should have the chance to live their life according to their own wishes, and I am committed to supporting them in this journey.

Leading our team is a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. Together, we create a warm, welcoming environment that feels like home, where every resident receives the respect, attention, and individualised care they truly deserve.
