My husband came to Steep House in April 2016 suffering from Parkinson's.
He has had good care given with attention to his dignity and condition; care accompanied by an interest in his work and home life and with a sense of humour.
The chain of command between members of staff has been excellent.
I
have always been warmly received by the reception staff.
And a group of staff even got my car started after the battery went flat.
But, oh please, can the residents have better coffee!!
My husband is now receiving end of life care.

My mother lived happily at Steep House for over 6 years. The atmosphere is always warm, welcoming and happy, with lots going on.
All the staff, in all departments, are polite, friendly and eager to help. The care and devotion shown to my mother over final weeks was quite exceptional. I could not have
asked for better. I would highly recommend Steep House.

My father spent the last two years of his life at Steep House where the level of care, comfort and companionship he enjoyed made these two happy years for him. The support and kindness afforded to us, his family, by the staff at Steep House upon his death was outstanding, extremely touching and tremendously
supportive. We remain so very grateful to everybody at Steep House for making father's last years comfortable and cheerful.

Staff were excellent, kind, friendly and also willing to help and very understanding. Throughout my stay, I was happy, relaxed and well cared for.
The only "blip" was the cleanliness of my room: After I had moved in, the floor was not cleaned all the way under the bed. Rubbish behind bedside cabinet
when I arrived - left. Bathroom sink and toilet were not cleaned except once. Shelf under sink never cleaned. Urinal never cleaned. Old stale hard urine on the bottom.

From the moment we saw Steep House Nursing Home we decided it was the best nursing home we had seen in the area. The welcome was extremely friendly and helpful. My father settled in quickly and great appreciated the party and cake laid on for his birthday the day after.
He preferred to remain in his
own room, therefore, did not use all the facilities hence my grading. He was beautifully looked after and cared for. My only sadness was that on the day he died they only rang our mobile numbers and not the landlines which meant we only go there 15 minutes after he died. A call on the landline would have ensured that we would have got there in time.

My husband passed away ten days ago after spending fifteen months in Steep House. He was always happy and well cared for. We cannot thank the staff enough for the care given to him. All of the staff were kind, courteous and caring despite the difficult job they have to do. Nothing was ever too much
trouble which meant a lot to us. The staff always had a smile on their face and were always welcoming. Should I ever need to be cared for this would be my choice.

I can not express enough how kind, caring, helpful, nothing was too much trouble, every department was so good, and I mean EVERY department, to the patient and the next of kind, the staff were brilliant.
The rooms were well decorated, and it also helped being able to take your own possessions. It
was nice having a kitchen for the family going to visit to make tea and coffee. I am not surprised they won an award for 2016. I would recommend them to anyone.

I found that the care and attention given to my father was excellent. The level of attention to detail and the personal touch of all the staff is superb, whether that be for nursing care, meals, activities or general administration. The facilities, cleanliness and ambience of the home are also excellent.

My mother-in-law came to stay here from last summer. She was made to feel welcome from day one, and was amazed by how quickly everyone recognised her and referred to her by her first name. As a family we found the management team had an open door policy and were always available when needed. The reception
area, was also welcoming as was the receptionist. The carers were wonderful, always willing to help as were the nursing staff. Mum found out everyone from the kitchen staff, house cleaning, maintenance and especially activity team quickly accepted her which helped her settle better than we expected. The team helped make mum's time here one that we as a family will always grateful.

My mother was a resident of Steep House form October 2011 until her death in January 2016. She suffered from dementia. She received excellent care, love and support at Steep House, as did I her daughter and other members of the family. I always felt my mother was valued, treated kindly and gently. The
food as good, fresh and varied and her room was always clean and orderly. The nursing care particularly in her final days was really very good. No home is perfect, it's not like ones own home but Steep House really looked after my mother very well.

My wife has been resident in Steep House since September 2014. I am a frequent visitor there. I consider the care she is given is outstanding. I sense the staff have genuine concern for the well being of residents. My wife is clearly treated with dignity understanding and patience as an individual person
with her own particular needs and personality. I find the atmosphere (both literally and metaphorically)) pleasant and welcoming and the staff are remarkably good humoured and cheerful. I have confidence in their work together as a team, cleaners, carers, office staff and manager alike. I am fortunate in having peace of mind that my wife is being well treated there.

My husband was at Steep House for 2 years and 3 months during that time to his demise on the 3rd of January 2016. He had known such kindness, professionalism, care, food and general welfare.
Steep House is exceptional from the kitchen to the manager. The staff support the home with an excellent manner
and cannot be faulted. My husband was so well cared for, I thoroughly recommend this home and wish I could do or say more to extol it.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.925)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.925) out of 10 for Steep House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Steep House is calculated as follows: ( (208 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 219 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Steep House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my career as a nurse before moving into management, combining practical experience in health and social care with a strategic approach to leadership.

At Steep House, my focus is on delivering high-quality, personalised care, working closely with residents, their families, and friends to build a supportive community. The dedication and compassion of our team makes me incredibly proud to be the Manager here.

I would describe myself as honest, cheerful, and genuinely caring. My goal is to ensure residents feel valued, happy, and fulfilled in their daily lives. Taking time to listen to their needs and making them smile is, to me, the most rewarding part of this role. I firmly believe every resident should have the chance to live their life according to their own wishes, and I am committed to supporting them in this journey.

Leading our team is a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. Together, we create a warm, welcoming environment that feels like home, where every resident receives the respect, attention, and individualised care they truly deserve.
