Overall Experience
My mother moved into Sutton Manor in early December 2022 with some challenging medical needs that required palliative care for an unknown period of time. The care that Mum received could not have been better for the four months that she was there, with genuine warmth and compassion shown by all staff members, irrespective of their roles. I was able to visit regularly and came to know many of the staff well, and they were excellent at keeping me informed about her condition and needs as they changed.
The building and grounds of the Manor are truly wonderful, and the facilities and quality of care, maintenance and food provided are second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking to place their elderly relative.

My mum sadly died in mid-April 2023, but I can honestly say that she had a fantastic four months at the Manor. Her end of life was managed with real dignity by the home and was a genuinely peaceful experience that was exactly as her family wished.

We enjoyed our stay enormously. The staff, without exception, were so kind and most helpful.

The bedrooms were kept in excellent condition and the public rooms were always spotlessly clean and most comfortable. Added to all that, the dining facilities were well above average and the service excellent - we cannot praise them high enough.

Overall Experience
My mother transferred from Winton House in February. The transition could have been very traumatic as she suffered from mixed dementia, but she was made so welcome by Sutton Manor that she was immediately settled. I visited the following day, and the staff had set her room up with her personal items, and she was completely at ease, smiling at the staff, who popped in to see her. Although communication was little and she was immobile, she spent time integrated with others in the lounge and was included in activities wherever possible, eating her meals with the others as often as she was able.

I was always updated with changes in her health and made very welcome when I visited. The staff knew her very well, adapting her care according to her needs and moods. She was always very well cared for with personal hygiene, and I felt she was safe and people genuinely cared for her as if their own. The kindness they showed her and us when she was dying was amazing and made a very difficult time much easier.

My mother has been a resident at Sutton Manor for over five years now, and this year celebrated her 100th birthday, which everyone at Sutton Manor helped to make really special.
The staff are always considerate of my mother's feelings of independence and consult with me before changing anything that may disturb or confuse her. She is mentally alert and will question things; I am happy to work with the staff to ensure she understands why certain actions have to be taken.

Recently, her shoes were no longer suitable. Her usual pair were worn out, and she was resorting to a pair that did not support her feet properly. Indeed all her shoes in the wardrobe were unsuitable. I have removed these from the wardrobe and purchased a comfortable, safe pair to replace the ones she is resorting to. It was far easier for me to do this than it would be for the staff. It keeps me abreast of how she is coping, and it is rewarding to have input in her continuing care and help Sutton Manor in any way.

My mother has been cared for at Sutton manor for the past three years, and during this time, her care has been exemplary. We have never had cause to complain, and despite some changes in staff, the attention to detail is faultless. Communication is prompt and reassuring, which is so important and means we can rest easy knowing that we will be made aware of any changes

My father has been at Sutton Manor for six months. During that time, our family have been very impressed with the respectful, polite, kind and attentive staff - they really do care! Dad said the home is "like a hotel" when he moved in - it feels like a home from home - which has made a huge difference to my dad as he has settled in.

My mother has been a resident at the fabulous Sutton Manor for a few years now with her beloved cat, Topsy. She has a beautiful room looking out over the glorious park views. The staff and management welcomed them both and have always been so supportive, looking after Topsy as well as Mum, both are much loved. Recently, when my mother was rushed to hospital, the staff stepped up, even more, opting to spend their hard-earned breaks in my mum’s room to keep Topsy company, plus ringing the family for updates and sending their love for us to pass on. Thankfully, Mum is now safely back at Sutton Manor. We, as a family, cannot express our gratitude for everything all the staff and management do to make Mum’s (and Topsy’s) life so comfortable and safe; the consistent compassion and professionalism they show daily goes above and beyond.

The staff and management of Sutton Manor have always provided extremely good care for my very disabled mother (and also for my father, who lives independently in one of the apartments).
During the last very difficult year, it has been an enormous comfort to me to know that my mother is in caring hands and that her needs will be conscientiously attended to.

On behalf of my brothers and myself, I would like to thank everyone who works at Sutton Manor for all their dedicated care in the face of the kind of health crisis that we have experienced in 2020.

A beautiful home for the last few months of my Mother's life, we could not have chosen a better place for her. Though she enjoyed her light-filled, airy room and appreciated the views over the pretty grounds, it was the staff that she always spoke most fondly of. From the housekeeping and cleaning staff through to the nurses and healthcare assistants - their kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion shone daily. Small gestures such as roses from the garden placed on her table and changing the colour of her blanket (blue - more restful) are small examples of outstanding care and attention.

Thank you for providing the best possible care for my Mother - you made her feel loved.

Our father has been a resident at Sutton Manor for over 4 years, and we have never been anything but delighted with the care he receives.
While the venue and grounds are glorious, it is the exemplary attitude of the staff which makes Sutton Manor so special. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff and they have gone out of their way during the pandemic to ensure residents are kept safe while minimising disruption to them.

A good example is the renovation of the Pavillion in the grounds. Since residents in the properties in the grounds can no longer access the drawing-room of the care home, for very good safety reasons, the management has completely renovated a large Pavillion in the grounds to provide a comfortable setting for social interaction. It has been very thoughtfully equipped with a wide range of books and games, coffee/tea-making facilities, TV etc. When the staff was informed that my father was keen to restart his bridge sessions, they immediately ordered a table.

Overall Experience

My mother lived at Sutton Manor for almost six years, during which time she became increasingly frail, both mentally and physically. The staff was unfailingly kind and conscientious in their care of her and our family will always be grateful to them. Her wishes for her end of life care were fully complied with and the whole family was supported through a difficult time. Furthermore, the care was extended to her much-loved cat who lived with her to the end in great comfort. My only quibble would be with the top management, who remain somewhat distant. Those on-site are excellent and always available.

Reply from Teresa Janes, Head of Sales at Sutton Manor

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are sorry you feel the top management are somewhat distant. The owners are on-site at least 3 days a week and are always available to talk to either in passing or by a dedicated one to one appointment, which can be arranged through any senior staff in the home.

The care given to my mother over the 4 and half years she lived at Sutton Manor was exemplary. She was always treated with the utmost kindness and respect by all staff. The premises are spotless, the furniture attractive and the food delicious and varied. Activities are arranged every day for all to take part in, in both groups and individually. In her final days the support given to us her family, and to her was outstanding and for which we could not be more grateful.

My sister was a patient at Sutton Manor for 16 months following a severe stroke which left her confined to a wheelchair paralysed down one side, reduced eyesight and speech. The nursing care she received was absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, the staff were all kindness itself. Their loving care made life so much easier for her son and myself during a very stressful and sad time.

I want to praise the kindness, warmth, competence, empathy, thoughtfulness of all the staff and management at Sutton Manor. In fact, I cannot praise the kindness and efficiency and patience of the staff highly enough from the top management of to the bottom. All were brilliant. Both my parents were cared for there, first in a flat and then the main nursing home. Both declined and died there. My mother, most recently, spent six months in the nursing home and has just died, but her whole experience at Sutton was a happy one. In fact, she frequently said she was very happy there, she made many new friends and loved the gardens, but she also praised the staff who were always immensely sensitive and affectionate with her. Her final decline and death were managed with loving care and competent calmness that she clearly appreciated. Altogether, having just lived through this very difficult time, I recommend Sutton Manor very highly.

My wife with a moderate degree of dementia is in this nursing home. She needs a receives frequent care and attention as she is unable to walk or stand unaided. The care provided is excellent it is significant that many of the staff English and from overseas have been here for a long time. There is a tradition of staff helping one another and the management is in close contact with staff and patients.
