Following a number of respite stays, I decided to stay full time. The room is excellent, the furniture is new, help in making the room like my home has been very good. The staff are very helpful.

To start with we were more than impressed with the standard of care at this care home. 99% of the staff were amazingly helpful, understanding and caring even taking the time to ensure grandad (who would sit with nan every day) was ok even though he wasn't officially in their care. Since my grandad's passing in March we have unfortunately had to report many issues, nan being left for hours without being changed, even down to her lunch and dinner being forgotten (then the buzzer not being answered for well over half an hour) a lot of the old staff are still brilliant but the majority of standards have slipped.

Overall Northlands House is a very friendly and caring home with a high standard of care by staff. Rooms are well-decorated and furnished. Although my mother doesn't "do" activities they always seem well attended, varied and enjoyable.

Dad has been in the home for 20 months now. I was upset that he could no longer live at home, but the staff here have always been very friendly and caring towards him - they don't just provide the necessary care, but often chat and have a joke with him, which we both appreciate. There is a choice of menu each day for set meals, and a tea trolley visits each room morning and afternoon, so there is plenty to eat. Staff are on the ball with Dad's medication and have referred him to the local doctor if there are any problems. There are also planned activities each afternoon, including games, quizzes and singers - I was pleasantly surprised just how good they are! The rooms are cleaned regularly and are attractively decorated. I would definitely recommend this home to others.

Mum was well-looked after and enjoyed the food and drink. Bingo was her favourite activity and cheese and wine too. Sometimes she moaned about being left on the toilet too long. Housekeeping looked after her very well and her clothes had a lovely fragrance.

My cousin had to come and stay at Northlands House Care Home while my aunty was in a hospital. I had to write to you to let you know how impressed we all were with the whole experience. The room was spotless the food was fantastic but most of all every member of staff we approached for anything, we were greeted with kindness and professionalism, experience and care. The manager couldn't be more helpful. There is also so much to do for the clients. The improvement of speech and mobility when my cousin left was enormous.

I have done clinical roles within the ambulance service and then onto operational management and home management roles.

After taking a short break to complete my adult nursing degree, I returned to Bupa as a Registered Nurse. Although my background is originally in business — having owned a fast food outlet and a car park in my home country, Romania — I realised I wanted a career that offered deeper fulfilment and personal satisfaction.
In 2016, I decided to leave Romania for a fresh start and moved to Poole, Dorset. This was the first time I was introduced to the concept of care, as nursing homes, as we know them, do not exist in my native country. I learned everything from scratch and quickly became fascinated by the involvement, dedication, and compassion shown by everyone working in care — from housekeeping and kitchen teams to nurses, carers, families, and all other departments.
Working in care means working with people, for people. In this environment, the genuine love for our communities shines through. There are always opportunities to improve and adapt to people’s needs, and I love that when we work together, we see real results.
Working in care fulfils my soul and makes me a better person with every day that passes. Bringing a smile to my residents absolutely makes my day — I’m known for joking a lot!

My name is Catia an I am the Deputy Manager at Northlands House. I joined Bupa in November 2017 as a care assistant and, over the years, have proudly progressed to senior carer and now deputy manager. I have been in this role since September 2024 and feel incredibly grateful to be part of the Northlands family.
My journey into care began when I moved to England on the 1st April 2016 to work as a live in carer. That experience helped me grow both personally and professionally and sparked my passion for learning more about health and social care. Before moving into the care sector, I spent many years working in banking as a bank teller/cashier and later as a customer account manager. I have always enjoyed helping people, supporting them through challenges, and making a positive difference to their day — values that continue to guide me in my role today.
Throughout my time at Northlands House, I have loved getting to know our residents, listening to their stories, and supporting them to feel comfortable, valued, and happy. Even small actions can make a huge difference, and it brings me joy to help someone smile or feel at ease. Caring for others is truly rewarding, and I am proud of the work we do here as a team.

I was inspired to work in the care sector after my Nana moved into a care home. They were so good with her, we knew she was having a lovely time and was so well cared for. I always said I wanted to help people and provide the same reassurance and comfort that my Nana had.
Knowing your loved one is safe and happy is crucial. I also love getting to know people, chatting and hearing people's life stories, which our residents love to do also - so the role is just perfect for me.
My favourite part of the role is all the fun we have. A simple silly moment can lead to real belly laughs. Knowing our residents feel safe and are well cared for is my priority.
