Kilfillan House provides nursing, residential, palliative, Parkinson's and convalescence care. The home offers both long-term and short-stay care.

Located in a pleasant residential area not far from the town centre of Berkhamsted, this former manor house provides first-class accommodation and facilities. Interiors include comfortable ensuite bedrooms while outside offers pretty mature gardens with a greenhouse and sensory garden, each providing the ideal setting to relax and unwind.

The chef provides meals that are tasty and nutritious and works hard to ensure that all residents’ dietary requirements are met. Home-made sweet treats are available every day and the home enjoys celebrating each resident’s birthday with a personalised birthday cake.

Daily activities and regular outings are arranged for residents and friends and family are always welcome to join in.

Excellent care for my mother for her rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery. Each and every member of staff were exceptional in all aspects of her care. They were kind, caring, professional, supportive, efficient, considerate, friendly, welcoming, understanding and all went above and beyond
helping to care for and rehabilitate my mother so that she could recover and return home.

Mum was referred and admitted to Kilfillan House in June 2023 for palliative care. She could not have been in kinder or more experienced hands. From the moment she arrived until her death yesterday she was treated with empathy and kindness - from day to day care, to nutrition and the cleanliness of
her room. Mum was a lovely lady and her final months were made special by each and every member of staff. I can't thank you all enough.

My aunty stayed at Kilfillan House for fifteen months where she was treated with dignity, respect and care. The level of treatment needed varied throughout her stay and at each stage the staff adapted their care to meet her needs. Kilfillan House has a wide range of activities and events for residents
and their families. They facilitated communication with the wider family and gave my aunty comfort and care right to the end. I can't recommend the team at Kilfillan House enough, they were lovely through the time we've known them.

An incredibly caring, kind, friendly home. Felt like a home from home the moment we entered. Everyone had Dad's best interests at heart. Cared for him until the end. We were so happy with the staff, facilities and general running of the home. Can't recommend it enough.

My wife entered Kilfillan House Care Home in September 2022. She suffered from Parkinson's disease and her health was in severe decline. Throughout her nine months residence she and her family and visitors were treated with the utmost respect and dignity. All of the staff especially the senior staff
were diligent, professional, caring and above all cheerful. You have my eternal thanks.

My mother-in-law was transferred to Kilfillan House following a short spell in hospital. Within a month we can visibly see the difference the care offered by the whole team has made to her general health and confidence - keep up the good work all.

I spent two weeks at Kilfillan following hip surgery. The care was exceptional and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I feel the care I received contributed to my well-being and convalescence. The food was good and nourishing. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home for short or long-term
stay.

From day one, the staff at Kilfillan House have been amazing. They are all extremely friendly and caring. The care given is excellent and the home is clean and welcoming. My mother was in the home for 6 months. She was very well cared for throughout. The staff were attentive and kind and made her final days as comfortable as possible, particular thanks to two members of staff. I would recommend the nursing home without hesitation.

Myself and all my family were delighted that my mother was welcomed back to Kilfillan House with the assurance and comfort of the knowledge that she would receive the best of care during the last days of her life. The nursing staff were very good at communicating with us daily and prepared us well towards

Any care home is defined not by its location, or by its facility, but by it's staff. The manager and the staff at Kilfillan House are beyond the normal and manage to excel within, what may only be described, as a challenging physical situation. The nursing staff in particular are exceptional in that,
whatever the workload, they somehow manage and without complaint of any kind. This is at a time when most care homes are probably stretched for staffing levels. The carers, while many are relatively new, have all settled into a nice working regime whereby everything is taken care of, usually with minimal delay.
As it's longest-serving resident, I am proud to say that Kilfillan House is currently running superbly well and much of this must be due to the current manager who has already made several positive improvements to the home. This, in turn, rubs off on the staff who are much happier in their work as a result. Well done Kilfillan.

We had lunch at Kilfillan House for our 63 wedding anniversary, and the kindness and fuss they made of us were outstanding. They made it a day my wife and I will never forget. Thank you to this outstanding team.

The photo gallery is misleading. I didn't see any board games being played but they do have a lovely big TV in the lounge which is what the main 'activity' seemed to be. There was a grave lack of organised activities, which seemed to be the chosen policy of the manager. She was rarely available leaving
the nursing leads to shoulder all contact with relatives' concerns/queries - unfairly in my opinion.
Staff were largely lovely and clearly caring (only one member of staff came across as a little short and judgemental, which was unwelcoming) - all dealing with a heavy workload, especially at weekends, and I'm sure they, like most carers in this country, are underpaid for what they do.
The room my Dad was in was very small with little room for anything other than the bare essentials (and the telephone did not work!). The garden is well kept with areas of seating but no way of residents to attract attention and my Dad was left for a harmful amount of time unnoticed outside.

My mother seems very settled and well cared for. The staff are very encouraging and try to engage in her activities, however, her mobility is deteriorating and it's more difficult for her to engage in downstairs activities.
