The care received by my mother was second to none. All staff, at all times, were friendly, approachable and very helpful. My mother enjoyed her stay right up to the end and was always treated with dignity. A credit to the care system.
Reply from Fran Donno, Customer Service Adviser at Kilfillan House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave your kind response. Any care home is defined not by its location, or by its facility, but by it's staff. The manager and the staff at Kilfillan House are beyond the normal and manage to excel within, what may only be described, as a challenging physical situation. The nursing staff in particular are exceptional in that,
whatever the workload, they somehow manage and without complaint of any kind. This is at a time when most care homes are probably stretched for staffing levels. The carers, while many are relatively new, have all settled into a nice working regime whereby everything is taken care of, usually with minimal delay.
As it's longest-serving resident, I am proud to say that Kilfillan House is currently running superbly well and much of this must be due to the current manager who has already made several positive improvements to the home. This, in turn, rubs off on the staff who are much happier in their work as a result. Well done Kilfillan.
Reply from Fran Donno, Customer Service Adviser at Kilfillan House Care HomeThank you for your kind words. We are so pleased that you feel comfortable and at ease in our care and we are happy to hear you feel like a part of our Kilfillan House family. We had lunch at Kilfillan House for our 63 wedding anniversary, and the kindness and fuss they made of us were outstanding. They made it a day my wife and I will never forget. Thank you to this outstanding team.

The photo gallery is misleading. I didn't see any board games being played but they do have a lovely big TV in the lounge which is what the main 'activity' seemed to be. There was a grave lack of organised activities, which seemed to be the chosen policy of the manager. She was rarely available leaving
the nursing leads to shoulder all contact with relatives' concerns/queries - unfairly in my opinion.
Staff were largely lovely and clearly caring (only one member of staff came across as a little short and judgemental, which was unwelcoming) - all dealing with a heavy workload, especially at weekends, and I'm sure they, like most carers in this country, are underpaid for what they do.
The room my Dad was in was very small with little room for anything other than the bare essentials (and the telephone did not work!). The garden is well kept with areas of seating but no way of residents to attract attention and my Dad was left for a harmful amount of time unnoticed outside.
Reply from Rebecca Kellegher, Customer Service Adviser at Kilfillan House Care HomeThank you for your feedback. Our management team are always available to speak with to raise any concerns you may have, including room suitability not only for new residents but also for our current residents. Our resident's safety is paramount, ensuring they are safe within the care home premises and the grounds. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if there is anything further we can do to help.

Thank you so much for looking after my brother. He was so happy to be with you. Although he was not with you very long, you all made him very happy in his final days. I cannot praise you enough for what you did for him, I will always be grateful to you all. Your dedication and caring cannot be beaten,

My mother-in-law recently moved into Kilfillan House; she has been made very welcome. The staff are very attentive, caring and friendly. The food is amazing. My mother-in-law received care from a different care home where she didn't have a great experience. I believe she will be happier at Kilfillan
House.

I can’t praise Kilfillan highly enough. My grandmother was and my stepdad is now a resident. The staff treat the residents with respect and have a lovely caring attitude. They take the time to get to know the person in their care and put things in place that will give them pleasure. They are practical
and flexible in their administration wherever they can be.

I cannot fault the care that my dear mum is currently receiving at Kilfillan House - she has been there since the end of March 2022 and all the staff are always so kind to her and indeed to all our family that visit her. I am fortunate enough to be able to visit Mum frequently and each time I leave
her, I know that I am leaving her in safe, caring hands. The dedicated staff work so hard and nothing ever seems too much trouble to make Mum comfortable and settled.

My mum died at Kilfillan Hosue on 5th April, after 4 and a half years in the home. I was very grateful to be told the day before that her death might be imminent so that I could see her for the last time. I think she was very well cared for in the home. She had dementia and was vulnerable and I am very
grateful for the extremely kind and thoughtful care she received.

I cannot comment on the value of money as I have nothing to compare with similar establishments. Please expedite the clearing of the shower room, it's full of stuff as I do have an ensuite shower in my room, I look forward to being able to take a shower on my own without help, which is needed in the
'plunge seat' in the bathroom.

Dad was a resident for over two years and was very content during this period. The family cannot thank the staff enough for the care and respect they gave him, especially in his final few months. The last two years have been a difficult time for everyone working in care homes yet we were always made
to feel welcome and when visits were not possible we were kept informed at all times. Kilfillan House was always Dad's first choice for care and the family would have no hesitation in recommending Kilfillan to others.

Both my parents came to Kilfallan House for palliative care. Our greatest fear was that it might become necessary for them to be admitted to hospital. Because of the high standard of nursing care at the home and the commitment of all the staff, this was avoided and they were able to spend their final
days being well cared for and in comfort.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.601)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.601) out of 10 for Kilfillan House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.601 for Kilfillan House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (188 Excellents x 5) + (109 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 303 Ratings = 4.601
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kilfillan House Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
