Monread Lodge can provide residential, nursing and dementia care to the elderly, with up to sixty-four en-suite rooms available, all ground-floor accommodation for the ease of those with mobility concerns, and private parking and gardens.

A dedicated dementia unit named Knebworth Court was opened in October 2010 offering 16 appointed en-suite bedrooms. Residents can enjoy a spacious conservatory, choice of comfortable lounges and a dining room. There is also a central courtyard with a ornamental fishpond.

The home has an excellent inspection rating, looks to implement any modern methods and technology that can improve the lives and well-being of residents and follows person-centred care packages tailored to individual needs.

Staff maintain a sensitive attitude towards the concerns of loved ones, work hard to assure that admissions are as stress-free as possible and that new residents are made to feel welcome and at home.

From our initial visit right to the end my dad was treated with the utmost respect and care. My dad spent a year at Monread before sadly passing away. It was hard for us all, my mum whom he was married to for 60 years became very poorly so with a heavy heart dad went into care due to his dementia. When
my mum passed away the staff were so loving and came with my dad to the funeral. My dad knew who we were right to the end and was as happy as he could be in the situation, he was always pleasant to the staff who in return showed how much they cared. A special mention to the Community Liaison Coordinator who was amazing throughout, nothing was too much trouble. Also to the Knebworth Court staff and the Manager and the Deputy Manager who were fantastic with my dad's hospital stay. My dad sadly passed away at Monread and the respect and dignity that the staff showed was incredible. My dad was treated as a person in his own right, not just another resident. Also a special mention to the Activities Coordinator who was wonderful.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good facilities in terms of quality of beds. Food seems to be enjoyed and is made soft for those who struggle to chew. Home is clean without the smell of disinfectant that pervades many care homes. Only areas of concern have been the turnover of managers and, maybe related,
poor response to emails.

In these testing weird times, Monread Lodge has been top of their game.
All precautions have been taken, our questions were answered swiftly and professionally.
Moving the main meal to the evening is a good move. We know Dad now eats properly.
Due to visiting restrictions, the staff have been wonderful,
allowing us to video-call with Dad. It reassures Dad knowing we are there, once lockdown is lifted will we visit.

I was expecting my father to be nursed as he was very unwell, so was taken aback at the lack of nursing, as it is a Nursing Home. They never met with us to put together a personalised care plan to meet his individual needs and things were piecemeal. We never felt confident they understood his health
needs which were not that difficult to deal with. They said they did not have the nursing capability/capacity to care for him as they had staff shortages. He was made to leave the home after 3 days, after becoming unwell and needing to go to the hospital. The management/nursing staff did not treat him with dignity, but the carers did and they were lovely and caring towards my father and looked after him well. I was so upset when they would not let him back and so were the carers but we found a wonderful Nursing Home close by and they gave him Gold service in the few days he was with us, which restored our faith as we realised it was the best result for him in the end as he received amazing care.

After two years of living and caring for Mum, I felt that I needed more me time and Mum was also having episodes of confusion and short term memory loss. I was recommended to consider Monread Lodge by a neighbour who has a friend there, and so decided to arrange a visit in November 2019. On our visit,
we found a relaxing atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff who were reassuring of my mum's needs.
Mum is not always an overly sociable person but, with the attentiveness and cheerful attitude of all the staff and carers, she settled into a nice room quickly.
There have been many activities and entertainment over Christmas, along with all the extra effort of the staff in putting up the decorations and fantastic tree, making it a special time.

Mum was admitted to the hospital with lung problems and various other long term conditions and it was felt that the best thing for her would be 24-hour nursing care. My brother and I visited several homes in the area, but Monread Lodge seemed to tick all the boxes for us and right from our initial visit,
when we were shown around and spoken to in a very caring and professional manner, we decided this would be ideal for Mum. Since then, the care she has received has been absolutely superb. The room Mum has looks out onto a field with trees so she doesn't feel shut-in. All the staff are very caring, and whenever I visit, there always seems to be a happy atmosphere there. I would definitely recommend Monread Lodge.

We looked at quite a few other care/nursing homes for my brother who had been poorly. After his last admission to hospital, it was decided that he could no longer live at home on his own. Monread Lodge ticked all the boxes and on entering, we straight away felt at home. After only a few weeks, my brother
decided to sell his house and live there permanently until he died.

Our Mum was only with you for a few days, but she was far more comfortable and less anxious than she had been in hospital or rehab. Every member of staff was so incredibly kind, helpful and supportive. She was made very welcome, and it was a relief to have her at Monread. You were wonderful to us when

My father was in Monread Lodge for only 5 days before his death, but I am so glad I chose the Lodge for him. From the first telephone call and subsequent visit to the Lodge and his stay there, I was impressed. The public areas and rooms were all scrupulously clean, bright and cheerful. They took such
good care of him, and I knew he was in safe, kind hands.
The staff were amazing, especially during the period before and after his death. They were respectful, caring, compassionate and made a terrible experience easier to bear. I cannot praise them enough for their sensitivity at a difficult time and their professionalism.
I would recommend Monread Lodge to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

My Mum was at Monread Lodge for approximately one month as we wanted somewhere as safe and homely as possible for end of life care following a short illness. We looked at three homes and selected Monread Lodge as we immediately liked the homely feel of the place as soon as we entered. The staff, who
discussed our needs for Mum, were very sympathetic to our situation and made us feel instantly at ease. The single floor quadrant layout of the facility was also very appealing and they gave mum a bright, sunny room with some view of the garden which sits in the centre of the quadrant. The staff, although very busy at times, were attentive to her needs and very caring towards her. Having Mum at Monread Lodge gave us the peace of mind that we could go home at night knowing she was in safe hands and the ability to visit at any time day or night allowed us to see her whenever we wanted. Big thanks to everyone for making her last days so much more comfortable, both for Mum and us as a family.

In terms of care, we were so impressed and pleased with all the staff that we had interactions with during my dad's two-month stay. They were all very caring, compassionate and responsive. I always felt confident he was well looked after and supported, especially towards end of life when he needed more
support.
In terms of environment, the bedroom was perhaps a little tired but we were impressed it was repainted directly prior to his stay. For his needs at that point though, it was perfectly adequate. I think if he had been there longer-term, better access to a bath would have been desirable. Also, the little doorstep to get from inside to the courtyard was tricky to negotiate with a heavy wheelchair and it was sad to see residents that might have been able to independently go outside on a fine day in their wheelchairs, were unable to do so un-aided because of the doorstep problem.

My mother attended Monread Lodge for two periods in 2019. She was warmly welcomed and well looked after. The environment suited her gregarious nature and the company really helped an elderly lady who had become very lonely. After a final summer at home, she returned to Monread in September as a permanent
resident. The smiles on her face as she recognised some faces was a delight, and within the hour she was happily tucking into her lunch.
It's clearly the best place for her to be. Our sincere thanks to the staff for providing such a lovely place.

My mother, a resident for six months, says "tell them this is a very happy home!" so that is what I am doing. Her hearing and eyesight are not good, but she senses the care she receives.
Monread Lodge provides a warm, welcoming, homely environment. It includes a full range of facilities with the conservatory,
garden and coffee lounge being much appreciated. The chickens are especially intriguing and unusual.
The care of the staff is second to none. From the Manager down, all are very approachable, considerate, caring and take great pride in their work. There is a full programme of entertainment which mother enjoys, although she would like more songs from the shows! No pleasing...
From the perspective of a regular visitor, it is always a pleasure to go into the home and be greeted by staff and it gives me great comfort knowing that in her twilight years, she is being so well cared for. Thank you Monread.

The service received from the team from start to finish was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the level of care was exactly as we had expected, my father was looked after brilliantly and wanted for nothing. He was encouraged to get involved in some social activities which he enjoyed and his
experience in the home did bring a smile to his face when he had just been discharged from a two-week stay in hospital. Food was great (I stole a bit of scampi - couldn't resist) and the nursing staff caring, patient and knowledgable.

My brother has been ill for some period and the family have struggled to find suitable care for him. He has recently moved to Monread Lodge and the level of care that he is benefiting from has made all the difference. The staff are kind, warm and engaging and the benefit of it being a nursing home is

Dad has been here a couple of months now. I feel that the care he gets is good for his circumstances as he has a lot of challenging care needs. The gardens in the middle are a lovely feature and they now have the new addition of some chickens which the residents love to watch. The staff here are all
cheerful and if I need to, I always feel able to able to speak to the manager.
There are various activities that are provided and some lovely common areas for the residents to sit. The home is always kept clean and tidy whenever I visit.
