I cannot praise the staff at River Court highly enough. My father was a resident here for a number of years until he passed away four years ago. He was consistently well cared for and happy. He particularly enjoyed the banter with the staff and the excellent breakfasts. So, last week when the hospital
decided that my mother could only be discharged to a care home, my brother and I instantly requested that she be admitted to River Court. Can there be more praise for a care home than entrusting it with both parents? The staff have been available to me and very helpful during mum's transfer, taking the time to make sure she is settling in and understands what is happening. Covid restrictions prevent visits, but she sounds calm and relaxed on the phone saying she is being well looked after. From my point of view, it is a great relief to know that she is not upset or scared about the move and that she will be well looked after. Thank you all at River Court.

My sister has lived in River Court for just over a year now. She has special needs, has difficulty walking, is wheelchair-bound and needs full-time care.
As I live abroad and can only visit her once a year, I rely on the carers and staff of River Court to look after her. I am really satisfied with
the care and support she receives. She is so happy, I sometimes think that her every wish will be granted! My heartfelt thanks to all of you.

River Court was in my opinion adequate. When complaints were made staff became very scared. This care home was convenient to our (my immediate family) location and we visited every day. I did speak to staff on a regular basis but often came away thinking I’ve just received lip service.

My mother suffered hospitalisation and dementia in late 2014 and was admitted to a care home in December 2014. Overtime her dementia has worsened as has her pain from arthritis. Her mood swings fluctuate, the care and attention she receives from the staff are first-rate. The transition from one care
provider to HC one has greatly improved, both in facilities and entertainment provided to residents. At 95 years of age, my mother broke her hip. She now receives nursing care. The management did their utmost to take us through this transition with little worry.

My father has been in River Court, Hampermill since May 2018. He has progressive Alzheimer's and when he was first admitted he was very aggressive to everyone. Over the last year, I have seen the carers work extremely hard at building a relationship with my father. To the point he is now, content, settled
and happy. River Court offers superb emotional and physical care to its residents and I would recommend them.

I never envisaged that my mother would spend her final days anywhere other than home but when the unexpected happened and she came to ** ** I could not have imagined anything better.
All of the staff were the most kind, selfless, caring people who cared for mama like she was theirs. I will never be
able to thank you enough for the care you surrounded her with and for accompanying her to her final place of peace.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.833) out of 10 for River Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for River Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 282 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for River Court Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Cecilia

Cecilia Kassanga

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager for River Court Care Home, Cecilia closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

Discussing her approach to working in the care sector, Cecilia said:
“It has been my dream to be part of an environment that allows me to help and support those in need or are vulnerable. It is also imperative in the care sector to be patient, caring and a good listener which are all characteristics that I possess, making care work completely natural for me. Over a decade later and I remain truly overjoyed to be part of a rewarding sector!”

“My HC-One name badge says: ‘A good laughter, heals’, which I chose because I believe it’s important to make each other smile and laugh as you never know what someone is dealing with in private.”

When asked what she enjoys most about being a Home Manager, Cecilia remarked:
“Knowing that I am making a positive difference at every opportunity I get is extremely fulfilling.

Cecilia has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievements being supporting less fortunate children with starting and progressing their education in Africa.

Outside of work, Cecilia enjoys spending quality time with her two children, including as she says: “Either travelling across the country, world or simply down the road!”
