I have nothing but praise for this home.
My mum is being looked after so well. Even when I phone the home day or night to check on mum, they are so polite and inform me of mums condition.
Well done River Court, you can pat yourself on the back.

Activities have improved a lot.
Just need more trips out.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at River Court Care HomeThank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you have seen the improvement in activities, which are now provided seven days a week with activity allocation sheets printed and distributed well in advance. Due to the extreme weather conditions, we had to cancel some planned trips, but have recently started taking Residents outside for Cafe mornings, Shopping, Wheelchair/ Walk rounds etc. We are also arranging regular Resident’s meeting to take into account views and preferences for the type of activities. We are currently recruiting activity staff to provide cover for holiday and sickness periods.

My mother was in Chess House at River Court. I found my mother was looked after extremely well and she was treated with respect and dignity at all times, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The staff also looked after us as a family, making sure that at times we were aware of my mum's condition
and what would be happening. Mum was kept pain free and comfortable right up to the end of her life. I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone that looked after my mum and us as a family. Thank you.

Staff are always friendly and caring but since they have been taken over, I have found on several occasions that residents are left in the day room with no staff around. I have walked all around and seen staff attending to individual residents in their rooms, but feel that at least one member of staff
should be in the day room at all times. I do not blame this on the staff whatsoever, but feel the company should employ more staff. I emphasise that I have NO complaints re staff.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at River Court Care HomeThank you for your comments. I am very sorry that there appeared to be no staff in the lounge on the day you visited. I have addressed your concerns with every unit manager to reiterate the need for an allocated staff member to look after Residents in the communal area. Staff allocation will continue to be monitored on an ongoing basis.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.833) out of 10 for River Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for River Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (241 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 282 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for River Court Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Cecilia Kassanga

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager for River Court Care Home, Cecilia closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

Discussing her approach to working in the care sector, Cecilia said:
“It has been my dream to be part of an environment that allows me to help and support those in need or are vulnerable. It is also imperative in the care sector to be patient, caring and a good listener which are all characteristics that I possess, making care work completely natural for me. Over a decade later and I remain truly overjoyed to be part of a rewarding sector!”

“My HC-One name badge says: ‘A good laughter, heals’, which I chose because I believe it’s important to make each other smile and laugh as you never know what someone is dealing with in private.”

When asked what she enjoys most about being a Home Manager, Cecilia remarked:
“Knowing that I am making a positive difference at every opportunity I get is extremely fulfilling.

Cecilia has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievements being supporting less fortunate children with starting and progressing their education in Africa.

Outside of work, Cecilia enjoys spending quality time with her two children, including as she says: “Either travelling across the country, world or simply down the road!”
