Overall Experience

My dad had Alzheimer's and lived in Montrose Care Home for over 19 months, until April 2024. I saw a lot of homes before choosing Montrose. It has a warm, lively atmosphere and the building is very clean and well-laid out with good facilities and lovely touches. My dad received extremely good care from the Montrose staff and from the daily 1:1 carers brought in from an external agency. Everyone was very capable, attentive to my dad's health and personal care needs, gentle, respectful and thoughtful. They also had fun, shared jokes with him and encouraged him to participate in activities and outings. When we visited, the carers were considerate, giving us space and being supportive and kind to us. The staff in every role - those on reception, those who cleaned, did laundry, cooked, and more - did so much. Having our dad in a care home was very hard for us emotionally but, knowing that he had such wonderful people caring for him, made it much easier. We cannot thank them enough.

Thank you for your kind words. We are so glad that we were able to provide the care your dad needed in Montrose. It's always nice to hear how engaged the team are with our residents and their families and the impact this has on them. Hopefully knowing how well Dad was looked after is of comfort to you all now.

I found the staff friendly and helpful. The setting up the home was lovely and the rooms cosy and well equipped. My mother appreciated the en suite bathroom and the chats with the staff.

Friendly helpful staff from management, carers to cleaners. Always had a smile and kind word to say about my mother. The room was nice, good view and accessible WC facilities. Regular cleaning of the room. Regularly fed on exercised. Enjoyed the film night.

My mother was here for 3 months, needing care as she has Alzheimer’s. It was the worst time of our lives. She was so unhappy that she became suicidal, and the resulting one-to-one care left us with a bill of £35,000 for 3 months. She then became dangerously ill, resulting in a hospital stay of one month. We could not allow her to return to Montrose House. She is now in a nursing home and is settled and happy. We cannot recommend Montrose House to anyone.

My stepmother was only at this home for a short time before she died but were highly satisfied with the standard of care she received. I visited on several occasions at different times of the day and evening. At all times, staff were welcoming and were also engaged with the residents and trying to stimulate them in various ways. The home was clean, attractive and well-kept.

It was our first visit and we were warmly welcomed and taken to a nicely decorated lounge, offered refreshments - which was very welcome after a long drive. We were given a tour of the building - the garden is very pleasant (raised beds might be nice for residents to garden). The cinema was fantastic. The home was very nicely decorated, especially with exposed walls covered in wallpaper. The staff were professional but friendly.

This is the second time that my father has been in this care home for respite and on both occasions, we have been impressed by the way in which my father has been treated by all at the home. My father is extremely pleased with the service he received and would definitely return when the need next arises.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the team at Montrose, Watford to anyone and many thanks again for the way you treated my father.

Well done and keep up the great work you are doing there!

My mother spent a weekend here recently she stayed a few times before and although due to her dementia she doesn't remember anyone, everyone remembers her! I can go away and know she is in the best possible care! It really is a home from home for her and I know she enjoys her time at Montrose Care Home/ The staff are all lovely and welcoming, and they are extremely careful about PPE which is so important.

I came into Montrose in January from hospital expecting to stay for 2 weeks but ended up staying for 6 weeks. My stay has been excellent, the staff are all helpful, cheerful, sympathetic, nothing is too much trouble and will help anytime night or day. The home is so clean, food is excellent with choices. The entertainment was varied and enjoyable. I would certainly recommend the home to anyone looking for care.

We have been delighted with the considerate care that our mother has received in this beautifully presented purpose-built care home. Staff are thoughtful, respectful, and work tirelessly to provide the best care for residents. The facilities are kept in immaculate condition and updated to best suit the needs of residents and staff. Communication of any changes in health or items required for the residents is always good. It is a pleasure to visit.

My father was a resident at Montrose for over 14 months. He had very complex issues associated with vascular dementia, very poor sight and hearing loss. He had been cared for at home for many years by my mum, after a series of strokes.
The staff at Montrose were not only kind, respectful and caring to Dad, but also welcomed Mum (pre-COVID) on a daily basis. They helped them both to adjust to a new phase in their lives, always positive and with a smile on their faces.

Through COVID, we phoned to check up on Dad and the staff updated us, as to his mood and food and drink intake - the little things that mattered to my mum. We also had some visits, post lockdown, in the garden and the staff were always helpful, so that we could get the most out of our precious time with Dad. They truly care for all the residents and work incredibly hard. Thank you.

My mother has been living at Montrose for over 3 years and is very happy with her care and lovely kind, considerate carers, as are we. The staff are all friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They make everyone so welcome. I would certainly recommend Montrose highly. You can rely on the people to look after and care for you or your loved ones. The family are very grateful for what they all do for Mum. The home is spotless too.

My mother has been a resident for over two years. She has dementia and has received outstanding care in Montrose from the first day she arrived. Her room is large, airy and always clean and tidy. Personal care is excellent with a hairdresser and chiropodist, all organised for her. Staff are lovely, many long term, and a busy schedule of activities gives residents a lot of fun.
