My dad seems happy in his care home and it seems to meet all his needs. Always good food, although my dad doesn't like vegetables at all. And you are listened to if you have a problem which I think is very important.

Ashcroft was chosen as a placement for my dad once his hospital admission had come to an end. I am not impressed by this nursing home and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Although some staff are nice and attentive - it is understaffed and on one occasion my father soiled himself and needed to get
changed before dinner and no one was available whilst the dinner was being sorted and he had to eat his food whilst soiled. Tablet administration is not done properly and tablets were sometimes found by relatives at visiting times on my dad.
Updates were not often given to the family and whilst in the home he had an infection on two occasions one being a bank holiday where I was asked to go get antibiotics for my dad as they were understaffed. I feel he deteriorated in this placement and he was sleeping most of the day and wasn't ever taken out of his room with a hoist and special bucket chair and his mental health suffered.
We moved him to a better placement and he has already improved.
Reply from Rebekah Gifford, Manager at Ashcroft Nursing HomeI would like to sincerely apologise that your experience with Ashcroft House was not what you expected. As a home, we follow a dependency tool to ensure we are adequately and safely staffed at all times. Regarding the antibiotics, it is my understanding that as these were prescribed by an out-of-hours GP and being a bank holiday they were sent to a different pharmacy. There was no staff on duty that day that could drive and collect them. I believe the nurse asked if you could collect them as you were visiting that day. If you would not have been able to then the nurse would have contacted management who would of course gone and collected them.
I can but apologize that your loved one was left soiled during a meal time. This is not the standard we work towards and we expect that our staff respond to resident's needs promptly. If you wish to discuss your concerns further please do not hesitate to call or email me.

Although I find this care home a little tired, the staff more than make up for that. It is the reason that I chose this home above the rest for my mum. The staff, to include, admin staff, carers, event coordinators, maintenance and agency staff have the utmost patience, consideration and empathy with
their residents and visitors.

I found the care by the staff to be first class. They treat the residents and visitors with respect and dignity. The entrance to the home (inside) was very festive and welcoming as were the staff. The lounge was also very pleasant. The overall cleanliness was very good. My sister's room was very clean
although I did not find it cosy, although I can see that if she was having a difficult day, any extras put in the room would be in the way of the staff needing to treat her. The staff all deserve medals for their care and compassion.

Ashcroft Residential Home is quite a large care home and on entering the building, one receives a friendly greeting and information about the care home. The staff all seemed very friendly and caring and this has been our experience.
The home is well staffed and the food excellent.
Nothing is too much
trouble for the management and there is a varied programme of activities for the residents. Overall, the home is worthy of an excellent rating.

My dad is 80 and has Dementia, Alzheimer's, Epilepsy and Diabetes along with other illnesses. He has had Dementia for the past 6-7 years and has previously had respite in a number of "posher" looking homes over the years but they do not come close to the level of care at Ashcroft.
He has been at Ashcroft
approximately 2 years now after a short period of respite care there and is his only live-in care home. When he first arrived, there was room for improvement, both in the staff and surroundings but this has been addressed with new management and updating of facilities.
Ashcroft is truly a home from home for the residents. I have visited unannounced at various times of the day and have always found dad and other residents to be happy, clean and cared for.

Outstanding staff, level of care, kindness and flexibility for a care home.

Respect, Dignity, Care, Compassion, Laughter, Entertainment and Love..... What more could anyone want for their relative? Thank You Ashcroft.

We are the next of kin of a very elderly resident of Ashcroft Residential Home who has been here for a number of years. Although the building is old we were initially impressed with the quality and depth of care and concern given by all the staff. Our first impressions have been built on and confirmed
as the years have come and gone. The staff without exception have made the house a home - well done.

As far as we can see, not being there all the time, my dad looks well looked after. He always seems clean and the food looks tasty and my dad seems to enjoy it. As when we visit is in the afternoon I cannot comment on other times. The staff always seem lovely and caring, although it's a shame they change
so often.

My cousin has been at Ashcroft for two years and has had excellent care.
The staff are friendly, caring and professional to residents and their families.
They provide various activities which everyone seems to enjoy and nice touches like a memory tree on which were hung a memory from all the residents.
It's
nice that the residents are asked for suggestions to be added to the menu.
Visiting Ashcroft is always a pleasure as staff and residents are so welcoming.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.100)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.100) out of 10 for Ashcroft Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.150 for Ashcroft Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (114 Goods x 4) + (33 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 246 Ratings = 4.15
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashcroft Nursing Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have more than 10 years experience in Hospitality management. I then decided to help my husband in running our family furniture business for few years. During Covid-19 lockdown our family business closed down. To financially support my family I decided to join to a care home environment in Ashcroft Nursing Home. I then furthered my role working as a Activity co-ordinator with the same organisation.
